It's Taking Me Hours For Discs To Read & Write

I don't know what is going on with my DVD Drive. It is taking hours to read DVD's with DVDFAB when it only took a couple seconds and to write it on my hard drive or on a disc it takes hours too. I know people are gonna tell me to reset my DMA but I have done that with no avail. I check my settings and under where it is suppose to say DMA if available it is stuck on PIO Mode. No matter how many things I do I can't change it back. I have tried system restore and no success has come out of that.

So here is my question to you members of the board, what should I do now?

Thanks to alan1476 for showing this to me. This is a little script tool to reset your DMA on all of your drives if you're ever in doubt. I think it is a lot easier than doing it manually plus for those that are not too familiar with doing this.

Ok all you do is download this to your desktop then when done double click it click OK and it'll do it's magic, after that you must reboot your PC for the settings to take effect.

I nor others have had any issues from using this but need to put this small disclaimer up for legal reasons too.

You can use the following VBS script to reset your DMA mode in windows without having to go through the guides.

Be warned that this COULD damage your computer and therefore you use it at your own risk.

DMA Reset Tool

Instructions:
Despite any warnings click on the [Open] or [Execute] buttons as required to execute the file resetdma.vbs.
If the program found any ATA channel to reset, reboot your computer and test all drives.

If the problem is still not solved, set the offending channel to PIO manually, reboot your computer, set the channel back to DMA, and reboot again."
So use with caution & again I say it's safer to do this manually via Device Manager. If you're using Vista then it doesn't work at all.

Again thanks to alan1476 for having it for me to find and pass around.

I have used this script and it still doesn't solve my problem.

All I did was show it to you Vinny, but thanks for the acknowledgement. It works for some and not for others. Your second option is still the best way.

As a last resort have you tried deleting or uninstalling the IDE channel the drive is on, you can try that and it will rebuild itself when you reboot the computer and should stay in DMA mode from there!
