ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

OK...long term DVDFabHD Decrytpor user.....looking to buy DVDFab Platinum. I have previously movings on my HDD (eg. Apocalypto) in Video_TS/VOB/IFO movie directories. I'm trying to create some backup DVDs and went out and bought my first DVD+R DL discs. Previously, I've used Nero 6 Recode for DVD-R SL with no problems. With Apocalypto (and others) being more than 4.5GB I want to burn ob DVD+R DL. I looked at FRYS on DVD-R DL but was told +R are fine and obviously cheaper.

My first issue via Recode 2 and also DVDShrink with Nero Burner was the DL break. I forgot to uncheck the remove function so it hung. After correcting I burned using Recode 2, DVDShrink w/Nero and also DVDFab (Trial Version) with VSO and Nero. VSO gave completely unreadable disc. DVDFab+Nero burned but like Recode & Shrink the disc would get past the layer break but hang none the less. Funny thing is while on the PC the layer break would hang too......with that fixed the PC playback runs fine....but my Sony DVD player hangs on these discs (same exact point). So, I was thinking it may be quality of discs but now think it is a compatibility item of +R. I've tried buring at slower speeds.....4X versus 8X....no difference. So, my last trial before returning +R for DL -R is to try DVDFab with ImgBurn. I downloaded 2.4.1.0 (latest) and ran DVDFab. When it launched ImgBurn after copy process from HDD to Temp HDD folder the onscreen log file went to "Preparing Image....". It hung there. Any ideas ? I've reads somewhere in past ImgBurn needs DVD Decryptor installed....still true or is DVDFab OK without it ? Let me know....want to eliminate all the burning variables on this.

Also, any ideas on my general issue of hangs on discs let me know.

Thanks !!!

Also....new DVD+/-RW burner......LG GSA-H55L with 1.03 firmware.....pretty close to latest.

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Well, figured out that ImgBurn window was waiting for me to select which location was supposed to be DL break point. Once I did that it went forward and burned. Works in PC.....will try Sony DVD Player.....still using the DVD+R DL disks I have left in pack.

UPDATE: Tried the DVDFab+ImgBurn DVD-9+R DL in my Sony DVD Player and layer break is fine but hangs at same point as others. I would think this is now a compatiblity issue of DVD DL R discs ?

Thoughts ?

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

I am not exactly clear on which of your problem discs were done with DVDFab and which with other apps. I have a GSA E60L external, which I believe is a GSA E55 like yours in an external box. I use Verbatim +R DLs (MKM 003) at 6X and don't have the skipping/freezing problem that you mention. I rip and usually burn with Platinum (VSO) and usually have no trouble. I have 3 standalone player/recorders (ILO/Liteon, Toshiba and LG) and the +R DLs play fine in all 3. If you have done one complete rip/burn with Platinum using the VSO engine, post a burn log so we can see what is going on in there.

I have a Sony DVD Carousel player that is maybe 2+ years old which this was happening on. First, as I said in Apocalypto it was freezing on charpter 11 at the same exact point....then I realized I had "remove layer break" on during burn. This freeze happened on PC & Sony player. After I changed that setting the freeze which I think was DL change went away....PC & Sony Player went thru that point. However, on all discs there was another freeze at chapter 11 at 1:53:22.....exact same place. I've done 8X, 6X, 4X even with DVDFab using VSO, Nero, ImgBurn....also Nero Recode 2 direct.....and DVDShrink with Nero. I've done roughly 15 discs in various combos. I also have a year old Denon scaling DVD player.....all these freeze at same point on it. So, I summize it is not bad discs (like glitch on a disc) since the freeze is same exact point.....or the burners/engines (since I've tried a bunch)....or the players. I even used Recode 2 to burn a DVD-R single layer and no freezes anywhere. So, I was thinking it is the DVD+R DL compatiblity with my Sony player but you guys say they work fine so my only other thought is the discs themselves. These are FRY's Electornics own HQ store brand that was $27 for 25...on sale for $19.

Are you saying to buy other brand and try at 4X ?
Should I try DVD-R DL too ?
Why would it freeze at EXACT same point ?
Do you think DVDFab+ImgBurn or Nero is best ?

Really appreciate the help...any other thoughts or ideas to try welcome !!!

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Try burning your current DL media at 4X. When using DL media I find the best bet is to use Verbatim +R DL for the best results.

I personally would use FAB with ImgBurn.

OK you are using dvd+r media. So in common settings write you need to check set booktype to dvd-rom. Hopefully this fixes your problem

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

To summarize all the suggestions: get Verbatim +R DLs (orange label, marked 8X-10X) and burn them at 6X with booktype (in DVDFab Common Settings) set to DVD-ROM. Put a check in the box for Remove Layer Break (also in Common Settings). Disconnect from the internet and stop all other applications when ripping or burning until you get this sorted out. Make sure the drive that holds the DVDFab Temp files has plenty (>10GB) of free space and is defragmented.

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Verbatim +R DLs are no longer good (unless you find an old lot).
RiDATA 8.5GB 8X DVD+R DL are a little better.

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

I assume you are referring to the MII (Made In India) version, as discussed in the CDF blank media forum. Mine (orange label) are MIS and still available retail where I live at BestBuy. And the opinions I've read here at CDF are not quite as unequivocal as yours. I think we would all appreciate some links for more information. I couldn't find any scans of the MII in a quick run through the blank media forum.

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Verbatim +R DL made by Mitsubishi in Singapore are still the best there is and can still be found. All bets are off on the ones made in India.

I'm not sure I understand this one ? I had this check mark before and all my burns froze both on PC and Sony Player at a certain place. I unchecked this box and subsequent burns on both PC & Player went past that point....only change. For DL don't you want/require a layer break ? If so, shouldn't this be "unchecked" ? I assume SL it would be ignored ?

Also, above others said to "check set booktype to dvd-rom". I recall this being on "automatic" and during the burn the log files showed this being set...I recall. As an example, take a look at the log file above where: I 16:26:54 Book Type Setting: DVD-ROM Anyway, guess I should force/select to be sure ?

Also....no one has mentioned DVD-R. Are they "more" compatible ? It sounds like everyone posting here thinks I have a burn speed issue but with all the trys it HANGS on the very exact same point....would this really be indicitive of a burn speed issue or a compatibility glitch with the player since there is no freeze on the PC at that point ? If so, besides paying more $$ would the DVD-R DL give me better chance for success ?

Thanks for all the inputs !!!

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Opinions differ, but I hold that +R with the booktype set to DVD-ROM to be more broadly compatible than –R. It looks like a commercially released DVD to the player. With the newer players it really doesn't make much difference, they will play most any disk.

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Update: Went into ImgBurn to burn directly since I can manually control better. Noticed when the page came up to select layer change the ime stamp was exactly at the point I see freezes....1:16:51. So, the freeze I'm seeing is I think layer break issue....not sure why it moved before....maybe changes in size moved it. Anyway, guess my question now is the comment above to check or uncheck "remove layer break". Which do I do ?

Where in DVDFab is this ?

In IMGBurn I cannot find.....there is..........

Seemless Layer Break....checked
Layer Break on DVD-R DL...checked

More..........

In ImgBurn I see book type to be set and I go into this but the settings don't seem to stick/save ?
Also, I noticed it detected my media as RICOHJPN-D01-67

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Seamless is the best way to go, but only if your player supports it. I would suggest trying one with it checked & one without. I would suggest doing a full rip & then reading down to post #18 in this thread. Booktype for Dvd+R DL is normally automatic with ImgBurn, but if you want to check after your burn, scroll down to information last recorded in the right hand window which should say Booktype Dvd-Rom.

EDIT: too late.

The first part, although I show a certain program here, can be done with any program that will rip your Dvd that you own &

are backing up to keep the original protected, to your hard drive so that you have files with the extension VOB, IFO & BUP.

For this we will do what is called a Full Dvd Rip, which is good for Episodic Dvds or Full Dvds that you are going to burn

to a Dual Layer Disc.

Yeap, The (Made In India) is the bad media. Lucky me received three cakes of that fine product and only 4 disks were any good. The rest of them looked like the foil was hit with a shotgun blast.

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Well, no joy in mudville.

I burned using ImgBurn from a clean/good HDD folder.....have DVD-R SL that is compressed ~10% from Recode 2 that works fine....PC & Sony Player.

Anyway, the burn log is above.....all looks fine in the log file.....I played back on my LG GSA-H55L (fiwmare 1.03) DVD+/-RW that I burned on in WMP11 on PC and it hangs at layer break. I then tried on the PC with my DVD-ROM bay LG GDR8164B (firmware 0L06) and it played fine. Hoping my Sony DVD player would work I put it in and it hangs at LB.....ugh !!!!! It hangs right at LB and also I cannot from good clean start chapter forward past LB...guess that would be expected with above ?

Any ideas ? My only thought is a -R DL in less there is some other setting to play with.....I had "Seemless Layer Break" unchecked.

What is UDF Revision under Options ISO9660+UDF for File System ? Mine shows 1.02 but there are others in pull down box up to 2.6. Does this have any effect ?

Re: ImgBurn Not Working (Looking To Buy DVDFab)

Well, last thing (variable) I tried is to set the layer break one item earlier in case there is some issue with little-to-no buffef before the change that perhaps my player is getting hung on...also went down to 2.4X. No luck, PC plays fine now........Sony DVD Player still hangs on LB. Any ideas ?

This was done with both ImgBurn "Seemless LB" On & Off....no diff.
