Re: I'm Getting Tired of Seeing This

I don't think it's the drive or firmware. I just completed an uninstall, as I did back in January, then reinstalled the software. Lo and behold, it works.

On my machine, something happens when a new version is installed atop an older version. Obviously, the software recognizes when the source DVD is removed and blank media is inserted, but the write process won't start up.

DVDFab Platinum would NOT write to a blank disk until I uninstalled & reinstalled it:

-> Uninstall DVDFab via Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs
-> Delete C:\Program Files\DVDFab Platinum 4 folder
-> Open C:\Documents and Settings\[MY ACCOUNT]\Application Data and delete the four PCOUFFIN files
-> Delete the My Documents\DVDFab folder and the My Documents\PCSETUP folder
-> Empty the Recycle Bin
-> Delete all Registry entries related to DVDFab using Regedit
-> Install DVDFab Platinum 4.0.6.5 Beta
-> Set the write speed to 8x (although this probably doesn't matter, as the program alters speed as necessary on the fly)

This is the error from the previous logs:

Can't set write parameters mode page. Code 05 26 00 [Illegal request, Invalid field in Parameter list]

This problem, this error appears after installing an update atop a previous version of the software.

Those discs you are using have been known to vary a lot.

Re: I'm Getting Tired of Seeing This

I give up.

Next you'll tell me it's my mouse drivers.

Let's see: Program refuses to write following update install. Uninstall & reinstall program. Program starts writing again without any problems. "Oh, it's obviously those cheap Sony discs."

Troubleshooting at its finest.

What do you suggest. This trouble shooting is hard to do just posting and not being there with different media that most of us have or another pc to put it in plus check cabling to see the results etc........

Media plays a big part in burning.

We don't get paid to do this which i'm not complaining. You have been a member as long as i have.

Re: I'm Getting Tired of Seeing This

You have 2 drives in your log, the Liteon is a CDRW drive, you cannot use that one. The other is a USB Sony DRU840 I believe. Make sure you are only burning at 8X with the USB Sony, especially with CMC Mag media.

Re: I'm Getting Tired of Seeing This

No one else is having the problems you are with these specific movies and program. That should tell you something (that it's somewhere else than the program).

A little better attitude wouldn't hurt either when you're asking for help.

I didn't tell the software to use the E: drive, which is the Lite-On CD writer. Install the software, and it defaults to that drive the first time you start it up. Perhaps because it is the first logical writing drive? The Sony DVD drive is a USB drive. Maybe the software doesn't care for USB drives, or something changes in the way it works with USB drives after an update is installed?

If there is some way to prevent the software from ever seeing the E: drive, please tell me.

Still, the correct drive has been selected, the write speed has been set to 8x, and the error still happened. That much is seen in the logs. As soon as I did the uninstall and reinstall, the error went away.

My final help on this one...when you uninstall and re-install at the end of the install there is a box for start DVDFab when you click the FINISH button DVDFab opens is this the only time that it works correctly if so ....PLEASE do a "CLEAN uninstall" by using the steps given in the link below in my signature..NOTE this is not the normal uninstall it show you how to delete items left behind after you uninstall the program... and please download a new install file do not use the one you already have
GOOD LUCK

Re: I'm Getting Tired of Seeing This

teh roxxors is using your uninstall guide. only difference i can see from his post is that he uses regedit to delete dvdfab entries instead of regseeker.

New Drive selected : 0:0:0 - SONY DVD RW DRU-820A 2.0c [H] (Usb)
Current Drive selected : 1:0:0 - LITE-ON LTR-52246S 6S0F [E] (Ide)
yes you are correct. this is normal and will not interfere with the burning process.

On my machine, something happens when a new version is installed atop an older version..... Program refuses to write following update install. Uninstall & reinstall program. Program starts writing again without any problems.
is this the only time you have problems writing? or will you have problems again say after a few writes or after a couple of days?

do you have other dvd burning programs installed which may interfere with VSO? such as ner0 incd or anydvd?

have you tried setting the burning to use imgburn from dvdfab?

before the next time you uninstall dvdfab, uninstall the pcouffin driver from device manager and disconnect and uninstall your usb drive. after reboot and before installing dvdfab again reconnect your dvd drive.

Yes, the ONLY time I have problems is immediately after installing a new version on top of a previous version, and that started with 4.0.5.0. If I COMPLETELY uninstall & reinstall the software, it works fine.

No. And I think Nero is the Devil.

No, but I can if I have to, or if it is better somehow.

OK, I'll try that. Thanks for the advice.

Re: I'm Getting Tired of Seeing This

I am having the same issue. It all started with the last update to this version. Once i installed it, the program started spitting out the DVDs. I went to wally world and bought several different medias. Did the same thing. I was able to burn using other programs fine. So, after the last 3 years of no problems, my next bet was the burner itself. I figured maybe it was on its last leg. So i just purchased a new burner. It is burning now better then before.

But the problem is still there.

There are speed issues and also burn times. I can burn a movie in 6 minutes, then put in another dvd and the same movie takes 15 minutes.

i do believe there is something in the new update that is conflicting somewhere in the OS.

I hope others will post who is having the same issue. Maybe it is specific to a specific bios or motherboard. who knows. i am still working the problem.

As for uninstalling and reinstalling thats a waste of time. Just reboot and you will get one good burn with no hicups.

You are right about Sony media. it is starting to suck. I am using memorex at the moment.

any help or any pros out there, we could sure use a hand...

Re: I'm Getting Tired of Seeing This

UPDATE:

This bug has been part of the application for some time now, giving me time to find another way around it.

The software fails to write to a blank disc after swapping out the ripped movie. Perhaps it's because I'm not using separate drives, perhaps it's because I'm using a USB drive. Dunno. I didn't write the program.

It fails to write when I've let the drive spin up the blank disc and waited for the little activity light to stop flashing.

So I started clicking a bit earlier, after the drive retracted the blank disc, but well before the computer had time to recognize the media. This prompts a "Drive Not Ready" error--no big deal. I click a few more times, get a few more errors, but once the drive is ready, the software begins writing. It no longer fails to write.

This is certainly easier than reinstalling, rebooting, or restarting the software.

I hope this helps others who are having the same problem.

Re: I'm Getting Tired of Seeing This

This is what i came up with.

i found out that PCTools was interfering with the lastest versions. I did all the troubleshooting.

Before i start to burn any movies, I make sure i turn off PCTools!

it works well after that.

You might want to check and see what antispyware you are running or antivirus software. If you have it, disable it!

give that a shot. it works for me now
