I try I really try - Using DVD Fab (latest)!!!

I apologise if I am ask that which has been asked before, but as ever the syntax of my query is probably not right.

A simple series of queries. I want to copy a music DVD that has lots of extras. I do so via 'customise' and the disc is scanned and appears to accept the project as now fitting on the DVDR disc. It copies surprisingly quickly presumably to a temp file. Then It appears to copy to the DVDR, activity by the drive seen so something is going on!

It finishes , releases the disc. I put it in my stand alone DVD player and it does not reject, but what seems to have been copied is not seen.

I copied using 'main movie' all I get is the sound track!

I seem to have no problem copying a disc that fits a DVD RW naturally.

The actual disc seems to be about 2/3 full but, as I say not viewable.

Being married I can take criticism, I am missing something I know.

If it helps IU have DVD Shrink on my system is there a clash?

I also Have DVD Region Free+CSS on my system is there a clash there?

You must disable Region+CSS Free. DVDFab should be finding this and alerting you automatically. Make sure you have the latest version of DVDFab (4.0.5.5).

Many thanks.... If I may top and tail your answer!

Does mean that FAB will kick in and allow me to play Region 1 DVDS ( I am in UK)? Really import to me as my DVDs mostly come from the USA.

I download latest DVDFAB today.

Re: I try I really try - Using DVD Fab (latest)!!!

I have disabled the program as you suggested but still cannot get a playable copy.

The DVD is too big for the usual DVDR. I thought I was doing the right thing by using MAIN FILM and CUSTOMIZE. they seem to finalise and the DVDs are released at the end of the procedure. I get ' No Disc' and so on.

I think I am doing the right settings...

Re: I try I really try - Using DVD Fab (latest)!!!

i would try totally un-installing the program ( dvdshrink) then trying again or finding a dvd that you know is small enough to fully fit on a regular sized dvd.
or how about cutting out some of the features from the dvd that you are trying to back up. at least you will know that if the size is the issue that you can successfully convert and transfer to a dvd.
i am just taking guesses here at your issue, someone may or may not agree with my suggestions.

i am having some issues too with the program and it's probably in my best interest to bounce ideas and suggestions off of others to assist, just in case i have the same issues down the road.

Re: I try I really try - Using DVD Fab (latest)!!!

dvdfab platinum will remove region code when ripping a disc. to watch a disc on your computer you will still need dvd region free or a region free firmware to view a disc from a different region.

play the dvd either with your stand alone dvd player or a dvd softare on your computer. check the title numbers for each title you want to back up. then with dvdfab platinum, use customize to select the same titles.
http://dvdfab.com/docs/index.php/Main/DVDToDVDCustomize

you can select to rip the disc to fit on a dvd-r or a DL dvd. this is done by selecting either dvd5 or dvd9.
http://dvdfab.com/docs/index.php/Main/RunningProgram

as to why your backup disc will not play in your dvd player, i dont know. but we can help you to figure this out. can you please post a burn log. this will tell us what version of dvdfab you have, what blank media you are using, your dvd burner, and several other important things.

DVDFab will remove the region code, but will not convert NTSC (region 1) to PAL (region 2). You're going to need a region free player to get what you want. Try backing up a DVD from the UK and see the result, I don't really believe your issue is software.

DVDFab will copy the discs but will not play them. Slow down the burn speed and make a test burn at 8X. If you are trying to play these on a standalone player, make sure the checkbox in Common Settings->Write for booktype ("Set booktype to DVD-ROM") is checked. As 90312 pointed out, R1 DVDs are NTSC video; your UK TV (and probably your standalone player) uses the PAL standard. Depending on your player's abilities to deal with this, you may need to convert the DVD files to PAL before burning. There are some free applications that do this or you can use ConvertXtoDVD from VSO Software (not free but good and useful). It will convert and burn in one step.

Re: I try I really try - Using DVD Fab (latest)!!!

TV suits Pal/NTSC.
All Players are region free.
I'll check out 'common settings', if I can find it.
The preview window.

Obviously it does not always show a preview, or should it?

Re: I try I really try - Using DVD Fab (latest)!!!

You can control the preview window behaviour, in Common Settings->Preview. There are two checkboxes; I have them both UNchecked, but if you use this feature often, set them to suit your preferences.

DVD Movie Copying

I have tried many times to record a music video. It is too big for the usual DVD+R so I have tried to copy it as a 'Main Movie' and 'Customize'.

I have taken the advice I have been given above.

The results when in a stand alone DVD player 'no disk ', or it has loaded and stopped. I have also found I have recorded the sound track only with access to the menu.

I know that when the original is played by using the 'angle' control I can move from sound to sound/video.

I have also experimented with checking all the '2s' in the title options and then all the '1s' in customize and 'main movie'. Thinking that the options would allow me to ignore the sound only playing.

Seems to make no difference, the best I can do is sound only with menus. I am getting to the point that I have lost track of the permutations I have tried.

Re: I try I really try - Using DVD Fab (latest)!!!

If you have the buy version of program, you can back to DVD to a DVD-5 (single layer 4.7GB). It will compress the disk so that it will fit. You will not notice the difference. Try backing up to an ISO file rather than disk to disk, and then use imageburn to burn the result.

Re: I try I really try - Using DVD Fab (latest)!!!

Have you tried using a dual layer writeable disk and the "clone" selection?
This will make a 1:1 bit for bit copy.

I am getting to the point that I have lost track of the permutations I have tried.
send the ifo files to fengtao to look at with a link to this thread.
