How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

I'm a DL newbie. I had some old movies on my hard drive that was decrypted using DVDFab, files that end in IFO, BUP, VOB in the VIDEO_TS folder. I tried using Nero Recode to burn to DVD-9 but I kept getting reading sector errors during verifying.

What is the workaround to get the DVD Fab uncompressed movie on my hard drive onto a DVD-9?

Just yesterday, I came upon this cool site and learned that I should use DVD Decrypter and today came my first successful copy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ricky

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

Try a program called "ImgTool Classic"

It will create a DVD .iso or .img that you can burn using any burning program.

Your firmware is way out of date. ImgBurn will create the ISO and burn but by looking at your computer specs, I would recommend using a better computer.

Okay, I've download ImgTool Classic version 0.91.7. Before I install it, do i have to upgrade my dvd writer's firmware? If so, how do i get that upgrade? Secondly, what software should i be using to burn onto a DL disc (would Nero work or is there something more reliable)?

Thanks,
Ricky

You can use ImgBurn to burn to a DL disc, as it handles the layer break better than Nero.

And BTW, your PC specs are just fine - I rip/shrink/burn perfectly on a PC that's nowhere near as beefed up as yours

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

Yep, agree with Arachne...Img should work just fine, simply creating a bkup with your current system shouldn't be a problem.
You didn't say, but guessing you ripped these with DVDFabdecrypter (freeware), no burn engine in this app. Fab apps rip in file mode (as default), which, I believe, is what you described in your original post.

The retail fab apps - express, gold (platinum) and the new Fab 3 beta - all have burn engines. You could certainly try the trial version of express or gold and burn to a DL...probably a better option is to try the new beta (also free trial) as the layer break issue has been resolved. Simply choose the dvd folder containing the VIDEO_TS folder and AUDIO_TS folder as your source and burn to a DL disc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Arachne and Maineman for giving me some direction (I was lost for a year and almost gave up on DL burns). I'll download ImgBurn version 2.0.0.0. I was using the free version of DVDFab and Maineman, you're right, it doesn't come with a burn application. Looking ahead, in the long run after DVDFab gold's trial version has expired, what free softwares could I continue to use (or is there a way to bypass the expiry date)?

By the way, is Nero Recode not an ideal software to make DL burns? This would seem to be an extra step. I think people are using the same software to rip and burn, such as DVD Decrypter. When I made single layers, I had to use DVD Shrink then launch Nero to burn. I wonder if there's a better way not to need two applications, one to rip, then one to burn. Perhaps DVDFab gold could be the final answer?

Thanks,
Ricky

Arachne,
I got this error message during verification burning Van Helsing onto a DL.

The movie was decrypted using DVDFab (freeware). Then I used ImgBurn to convert it into ISO. After an hour and a half, I got to the final stage of verify. And got this message. Any ideas? (trying to not waste anymore DL discs)

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

Firstly, update your firmware.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2017

You should be on v1.58 now, not v1.17.

Then it's just down to how well the drive can burn the media you're using.

Are you using Verbatim DL discs? If not, I'd highly recommend it. The others are all pretty useless.

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

Hi NoCompression,

If you are aleady DVDFab Platinum registered user, you can try "Clone" feature of DVDFab Platinum 3 to see the result, it will make perfect DL copies:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=189311

Also, LIGHTNING UK!'s suggestion is very helpful, please update the firmware and use Verbatim DL discs.

Best Regards,
Fengtao

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

I bought Memorex DL discs. I'll take Lightning UK's advice and will be getting Verbatims on my next purchase for sure. I'll upgrade my firmware also (I hope I don't fry the hardware as I had done so with a router when I upgraded to a wrong firmware). Don't know about computers. Thanks very much to Lightning UK and Fengtao's knowledge. I'll give DVDFab Platinum a go. Sounds like that's the one software that handles everything under the sun.

Thanks,
Ricky

Hi Fengtao,
I've installed DVDFab Platinum and tried using the Clone feature. However, each time I picked an ISO file, a pop up box notification saying that it's encountered a problem and needs to close. So in the end, I still couldn't burn a perfect copy onto a DL. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ricky

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

Hi Ricky,

When you use "Clone" feature, the best way is use DVD disc as source, so that DVDFab can get the original layer break.

If you choose ISO file as source, the layer break will not be same as original disc.

For the crash problem, I'll check it asap.

Best Regards,
Fengtao

So is it possible to burn some movies that I had decrypted onto DL? I've tried converting the Video_TS folder into ISO using Imgburn. My result of burning with Imgburn yielded a verification error around the 52% mark. And, DVDFab Platinum shutsdown when I selected the ISO file. I upgraded my firmware last night to v1.58. Then used DVD Decrypter to Write the ISO file. But it too, gave me a verfication error. Is it because I had either DVDFab (freeware) or DVDShrink (full copy backup) and it messed up the layer breakpoint? This may be a lost cause and my movies on my hard drive simply can not be transferred at all. I wanted to know your thoughts before I totally give up. Thanks.

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

How did you go about converting to ISO?
Yes, this sounds like a LB issue, but in fact, may be more.
Are you able to play the movie from the hdd...say with powerdvd, nero showtime, VLC, etc.?
Does it play through the LB ok? other playback issues?

This little conversion utility has worked well for me:

Folder2Iso

Also, assuming the movie plays ok off the hdd, you could try to re-rip it. It's no longer encrypted so there are a number of options. You may want to try it with the new Fab 3 beta 8.

Hope this helps.

Hi Maineman, I used ImgBurn to convert the Video_TS folder into an ISO file. What does "LB issue" mean? I could playback the hard drive's video_ts folder on the computer using WinDVD. Even after I've encountered verification errors during burning, I could still playback the errored disc on my computer. The DL disc just wouldn't play on my Denon 2910 DVD Player. It can play DVD+R's as it has worked before ie. Pulp Fiction (only that I copied it straight from the original disc: read and write ISO, used DVD Decrypter).

Unfortunately, I couldn't re-rip the movies that are already on my computer because I no longer have the original discs. I just need to find a way to transfer my hard drive movies onto DL. I have tried Fab Platinum 3 last night but when I selected an ISO file (which was converted using ImgBurn), DVD Fab Platinum Beta 3 immediately shutsdown on me. And yes, I am adding to the stack of $2 coasters. urggghhh.

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

By the way Maineman, as Folder2ISO converts Video_ts into an ISO file, which does the same thing that ImgBurn does. Would I just use Folder2ISO to convert, then use DVD Decrypter to burn? Then I wouldn't need ImgBurn anymore?

Thanks a lot.

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

I am not Tom (maineman) but LB is Layer Break it is spot where layer changes from 0 to 1. I know that Tom has used a free program called "Folder2ISO" to create an ISO that can be burned with ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter since it is already decrypted. You might want to check at local or online rental store for a used copy. I buy some from NetFlix for $6 shipped and they come in original case and they guarantee that they play. I have seen them locally priced 5 for $20. I know that you cannot edit an ISO without ISOBuster, Ultra ISO, Magic ISO, etc. All have free limited use editions. Also see the following forum for ideas

http://forum.digital-digest.com/index.php

Cynthia has several tutorials there and bluetach has several useful links in his signature. There is also a DVDFab Decrypter thread there too.

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

When I spoke to re-rip, actually I was referring to kind of re-processing the files again, through a ripping program from the hdd, not from the original disc and subsequently burn. This may or may not work, it's redundant, but since you're unable to burn from the hdd as it is now...
This is the same idea for using the Folder2Iso utility. I've had failures with ISO files in the past with dvdd (dvddecrypter) and Img and had successful conversion with this little gem and was then able to burn with dvdd or Img. Keep in mind that Img has the same developer as dvdd... LIGHTNING UK! Dvdd is no longer supported (UK no longer "owns" rights of ownership...thanks to macrovision), however, Img is fully supported by LIGHTNING UK! . You won't find a better burn utility...bar none!

If you can view the movie from the hdd, then it makes sense you should be able to burn it. No one software works perfectly everytime, that's for sure. I'm just throwing out ideas. In the end, Mack's suggestion about re-purchasing the discs (used) may be the way to go.

Thanks Maineman. Just found out through you what a genius Lightning UK is. Wow. Light years ahead of my computer knowledge. I'll give Folder2ISO a try. If it fails, then I'll buy the movies instead (because i've racked up enough DL coasters to equal the price of the movie). Time to cut my losses.
So the conclusion is to use Folder2ISO, then Imgburn to burn.
For decryption, DVDFab Platinum Beta 3 and also use it to burn.
If I'm missing anything, please correct me.
(Purchase the disc if all else fails )

Thanks,
Ricky

Re: How do you burn to DL after decryption using DVDFab?

Are you using ImgTool Classic or ImgBurn as they are 2 different products. Memorex is not a good choice for DLs as they do not make their own discs, just rebrand them. Here is a site that explains who makes which brand. Always look at media code instead of brand because with the exception of Verbatim brands use different quality of discs. Verbatim has high standards so if there is a change in the manufacture the quality is the same:

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Lot of good information on the above site.

Hi Mack, I was using ImgBurn. Is one better than the other for doing the same task (converting IFO to ISO)? Just curious. That site you pointed out is very good. I'll only buy Verbatim from this point forward. Thanks a lot.
