Re: For Help

Also you have a very old 8X burner using 16X media.
Upgrading from 3.0.7.0 to 5.0.3.0 with no upgrades in between would lead me to believe that you haven't done much burning recently. Get your hands on some 8X media.
You could really benifit by getting a new burner for today's media.

Re: For Help

This drive (the TEAC DV-W58E) does not burn -Rs of any type and only burns single layer +Rs at 6X-8X according to the manufacturer website. It does support DMA.

Maybe I am too sedated, but I wonder why you are burning with Shrink/Nero if you have DVDFab Platinum? The Nero log is very strange, but I don't use it very often. I don't know why you have all that "DRM" and "audio compilation" stuff in there. The TEAC data sheet for that drive says it burns DVDs at 6X or 8X only. Have you tried using the VSO burning engine that comes with DVDFab? A log from that would help. From what you have said and what I have read about that drive from google, it sounds lilke DVDs were an afterthought on the TEAC and that you would get better performance from a new drive (like being able to burn DLs). Your choice, but I would junk it.

I'm with Signals on this one. Burners are so cheap these days, it might not be a bad idea to upgrade.

Re: For Help

ok so i guess i am confused as to how to burn with Platinum. How is it done? I copy with full disc then what? Cause ive always used the older dvdfab with dvdshrink and nero burn. There is no compression with "Write data" option so how do i burn to a dvd 5 with platinum?
thanks for putting up with my ignorance!
Ben
and yea i will be buying a new drive ...any recommendations?

Re: For Help

You can copy with Full Disc or any of the other modes, the process is the same as far as the burning part of it is concerned. First, set up DVDFab for burning on the Common Settings->Write page by selecting the burning engine, speed etc. When you put the original in the read drive it will appear in the Source window. Use the Target drop down selector if your burn drive is not automatically displayed (can be the same as the read drive if you have only one). At the bottom of the window you will see the Quality readout (amount of compression) and the output size selector. If the Quality is too low on a DVD-5, select DVD-9 or use a different copy mode (such as Customize or Main Movie) to reduce the amount of material to be copied. DVDFab will now copy the original per your settings and burn it to a blank disc. If you have the same optical drive selected as Target and Source, DVDFab will prompt you to insert blank media when it is ready to burn the output files. Read throught the DVDFab Guide (there is a link in my sig or you can access it anytime from the DVDFab Help ("?")->Tutorial link. There is nothing wrong with DVDShrink or Nero, just less hassle to do it all from within DVDFab.

I'll let others give you drive advice (I like LiteOn and LG but there are plenty of good ones).

Re: For Help

liteon, pioneer, samsung....ill get one of those on newegg....

i just burnt a dvd with dvdfab 5 succesfully only because it didnt require compression...
it's too bad dvdfab can't compress like dvdshrink does cause now i definitely need a dual layer burner if everytime i try dvdshrink and neroburn i get a fail. frustrating...the only reason i upgraded was to get the mobile option...i will mess around some more with this ... ive ruined 6 dvd+rs now.

If the Quality readout is less than 100% then DVDFab is set to compress the material to fit whatever output size you have chosen. It is part of the copying ("Task 1 of 2") process.

Re: For Help

Is the DVDFab 5.x with the mobile option the update for DVDFab platinum? I installed DVDFab 5.x, but what keeps opening up is 'DVDFab HD Decrptor".
