Hi crankdvd,
It sounds like you're using platinum, but which version? I was able to bkup Crank (R1, WS, main movie) last week with platinum v.3.0.5.2 Beta...no problems.

@MooMooMooMoo,
Do you mind my asking what movies? While no one software works perfectly in every instance, I've yet to come across a decrypting failure with platinum v.3.xxx. I also own AnyDVD, but can't remember the last time I used it. No disrespect here, it's an excellent product also...I just never seem to need it since Fab 3 was released.

Re: For Help

Last one I KNOWINGLY needed it for was Underworld Evolution. I suspect that DVD Fab does fine on that title by now. I now always run ANY DVD in the background & have DVD Fab's copy guard removing turned off per instructions on running the 2 together, so I wouldn't know about more recent titles. I have never come across a copy guard that the most recent version of Any DVD wouldn't break.

Re: For Help

Hi folks! thanks for your replies. Actually I don't have the platinum version of DVDfab. It appears as if the movie is backed up BUT it's not. I can't play the main movie COPIED or the FILE at all on PC or dvd player. I wondered if I had done something wrong or if there was a way around it. Unfortunately this movie has already been played 4 times since I tried to back it up. I'm afraid something 's going to happen to it before I can back it up. I'll try the other suggested software I guess. or upgrade the DVDfab to the platinum?
I would just like to know if anyone successfully backed up AND burnt a copy of CRANK before I spend anymore money.

Maybe you missed this in post #51?

@MooMooMooMoo,
Interesting, do you recall any specific error with the failures?
I create most bkups within a week or so, with purchases of recent releases anyway. So I'm using whatever version of platinum that's current at that time. As far as Underworld Evolution (R1), I created a bkup way back when it was released...are you talking R1 discs?

Re: For Help

I was able to backup Crank using V-3.0.5.5 in the full disk mode and had no problems at all even using cheap Imation -R disks so I don't think it's the program.

Re: For Help

Good to see this thread active again. Movie companies try all kind of tricks to prevent people from backing up their DVDs. They also spend more than enough trying to prevent backups, to cover cost of putting an extra copy of the DVD with your purchase for backup in case your original is destroyed. Cost to them is pennies to put a back up with an original, but they want you to pay about $20.00 for another copy.

Actually it is harder to physically destroy CD/DVD media than most people think. I know if that is your intention it is easy, but I am talking about everyday usage. Scratches do not scare me, I can take my disc repair machine and 2-4 drops of Brasso and polish most scratches out. I found a CD while pumping gas that had been stepped on, slid across concrete, and was very damaged. I thought this is a good test disc since I would never damage a disc to this level, so I through it in the car. Some days later when I remembered thinking about it being in the car, I brought it in the house, put a few drops of Brasso on my repair machine, run it through a couple of repair cycles, then a few cleaning cycles, and then it playeeeeeeeeeeeeeed.

I am sitting here recovering from 2 open hernia surgeries, hope to become more active soon. There is no tutorial for version 3 and I have requested that others who find a trick or really know a process well to write the instructions down and PM me so you can send them by email to me. I will edit them all together giving all who participate credit for taking part in the project, then will send a finished copies to all who take part. When we all agree, I will send it to fengtao who I am sure will appreciate it because Ting and him are so busy making the product better. I have put this request out before, but received no responses.

Example of a trick: one time I could not get Platinum to decrypt, so use DVDFab Decrypter to rip to HD, then burnt with Platinum.

Since this is instructions for DVDFab, limit all instructions to DVDFab.

Re: For Help

Hi Mack,

Hope your well on the road to recovery...or at least sufficiently pumped up on hydrocodone, oxycodone, etc., etc., so you don't care...

Thanks for offering to edit this manual-in-progress.
In case you hadn't noticed, signals has made an excellent start, post #3:

I'll be happy to add my 2 cents as usual.

Seriously, I hope you speed through your post-op recovery...
Take care.

Re: For Help

Hi, I know this isn't the right spot but I can't figure out how to start a new post and can't find any answers any other way. Hope you guys can help. I have the trial version of dvdfab platinum but there is no HELP. The tutorial page 'is coming' and no one answers emails. How does one get help for that program? Why would someone buy a program that has no help system? I was wondering if I could use this program to make back-up of data on a dvd-rw. The program asks me to choose a folder but when I do, it won't show up in the window. What am I doing wrong?

I'll try to answer your questions in order. You can start a new thread by clicking on the "newthread" button near the top left of the screen, just above the lower pink bar,on the forum's home (index) page, the same spot as the "post reply" button on this page. Help for the program is obtained here on the forum. The program author and his staff are frequent contributors. Search this forum for "fengtao" or "ting" and you will see their posts. Most DVDFab users get along OK without the kind of help files you may be accustomed to in, say, Microsoft Office; keep in mind that DVDFab costs much, much less. The resources that the low sale price supports are spent on upgrades, new features and the like, rather than the kind of extensive help that $4-500 buys. I'll take the low price every time. If you want to back up real data files (spreadsheets, word processing, still images etc.) DVDFab is not what you need. Try Nero instead. DVDFab is designed for backing up
DVD movies. Click here for a summary of some of its features.

Re: For Help

I said I would update the forum about my issue backing up CRANK , I just wanted you guys to know I downloaded the platinum version and IT WORKED GREAT! Also i appreciate the additional info on repairing discs, I've tried some of these disc repair things before, and they didn't work. Isn't brasso a brass cleaning polish? HOLY CRAP! I never though of THAT before. Thanks for the tips!!

Re: For Help

Brasso is a brass polish, but you know how we try new things. Now plastic is listed on the label of things Brasso will polish. I have read that from its introduction, people have been using it on plastics. Plus a small can will repair more discs than I will ever have. I buy a lot of previously viewed DVDs from rental places and even though they guarantee them to play, I find it easier to repair them. 1 local store has them 5 for $20 at times, so it is hard to pass that up.

You've already plugged Brasso so do you think you could suggest a good disc repair sustem or machine.

I use XINIX Repair Pro, but there are others. I may have just lucked out when I bought it a couple of years ago from meritline.com or supermediastore.com when buying some other supplies. There are some that DVD rental stores use that cost about a grand, so I will stick with the cheaper ones less than $40. I don't endorse any product, just report what works or does not work for me. I have read that some rental stores will run your DVD through their machine and price seems to depend on person working at the time of request it is my guess that this is extra money for the person. Some have reported no charge to $2, but I have never tried this method.

Thank you bigmacnc, I didn't mean to implie that you endorse any product, I just wasn't sure of the limitations of the question I was about to ask. Your opinion works for me.
Thank you muchly for your honest and timely reply,

DVDfab Platinum 3.0.7.0 is out. Please limit your posting for same problem the forum Mods will eventually warn you. You would have been better served to have started a new thread instead of at end of these Read First threads.

Re: For Help

Hope This is right place...
I have used Fab Platinum for a LONG time and it works great!
I don't know if it is necessary but also use DVDIdle running at same time which seems to handle region code.
Problem is that when I Decrypt first DVD, then move to next. the name of the DVD stays the same???
For example:
Decrypt Jezebel (old movie)
Change to LOVE ACTUALLY DVD
Name at top stays JEZEBEL

I can reboot and will then clear but that is a pain.
Is this a bug (probably not) or is it my machine?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: For Help

Do not run DVDIdle with Platinum as Platinum is a all in one program and you have 2 decrypting engines trying to do same tasks.

Re: For Help

Greetings all from a new member. I have DVD Region+CSS Free installed on my computers. The 30 day trial and 90 day extension periods have expired. There is no order page at the DVDIdle.com website. Is there anyway to reset the trial period to unlimited or something similar. This would suffice until the day that the site desires to sell registration keys again?

Welcome to the forum, dwb! Unfortunately, I don't know if anyone here can shed any more light on the status of Region+CSS. I'm sorry to report that it has not been updated since October. It might be worthwhile to download one of the other products (Gold or Platinum) and give them a try, they too have a 30 day trial period. (You would need to disable or uninstall Region+CSS Free first.) If you have questions dealing with installation or operation post them in the forum and we will all try to help.

Re: For Help

Thank you Signals. The other products seem to do far more than I need and maybe not even what I want. I only want to be able to view any region DVD. I don't need or want to backup or copy them. Region+CSS Free does this. The product is spoken about in many places on the web and is apparently a popular product. I would like to use it, but if it becomes disabled when the trial period is over and the company isn't selling keys, what good is it? Therefore, I will repeat my original inquiry. Is there any place on my computers where I can reset the software trial settings?

Re: For Help

Since the company apparently is unwilling to sell legitimate registration keys, the only way I can continue to use it is to fake out either my computer or the software. What I need to know, is what do I edit in order to tell my computer or the software that it has never been installed in the first place? The other products are not what I am looking for. Region+CSS is. I don't care about its update history, it seems to be ok as is. If the trial version is the only version available, then it should not have a trial period expiration on it.

Maybe a Region Free DVD Player is the way to go. Someone not long ago posted an address where new ones sold for around $49.00.

I'm sorry I can't help you beyond my original suggestion. If you keep asking for ways to circumvent the software's security, the moderators may have some suggestions of their own.
