Re: For Help

[quote=samr9th]I am having problems with DVD Region + CSS Free; I ran the program through the trail period till it expired. Then I purchased the program and received my key but it just want start the full version, even though each time it says it will now restart will the full version. It restarts with the same old your trail has exspired window.

samr9th

Samr9th did your installation crash?

I had DVDFab Gold 2.9.8.1 Free trial and decided to buy it. As soon as I downloaded the license I received a message to upgrade to 2.9.8.2 and it crashed during installation so I contacted support and they told me to uninstall and re-install a zip version of 2.9.8.3 and I did and that also crashed during installation.

I have been sending support emails for about 4 weeks now and no response from anybody. I am at end of my ropes with this software it appears the trial version works till you pay them and then no service at all. Anyone looking to buy software from DVDidle be aware NO CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Too bad good software bad quality control and customer support.

Re: For Help

Thank you, this solved the problem. I had originally emailed them through their web form & didn't get a response. I actually had to do it twice; the link below got me a replacement gold 2 key, then clicking on the send new key link in the Gold 3 trial got the correct key emailed.

Re: For Help

Hey, i took a look at the product you gave me a link to, but it's not what i need. I need a program like DVD Region Free + CSS; i.e, a program that will allow me to view DVDs that are encoded to regions other than region 2 (which is what my DVD drive has been permanently set to). For example, i have DVDs that are Region 4 and Region 1, and would like to be able to view them on my computer. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Got any others?

Re: For Help

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I am having problems with some of my movies. I purchased DVDFab Platinum and installed the update two days ago.

I am having problems with Downloading certain movies and perhaps someone can help me.

I tried copying "Click" and today, "The Davinci Code", but when I loaded it, the DVDFAB Platinum did not read it at all, no error message, nothing. It's as if I never put in a disc.

Please advise.

Re: For Help

Did Platinum recognize either of those movies as Source?

Re: For Help

Sometimes Windows will lose a drive as the registry becomes cluttered with leftover bits and pieces of left over programs. I think your drive was working Prior to this point.

Here some links that may help:

Under “My CD drives have vanished (from Explorer, Device Manager, etc.)” in following link you can download a small free program called "cdgone" also works on DVD drives.

http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php

Or better yet rather than listing links, do a google search for cdgone and you will find more valuable information as there are forums etc that will show up in the results. I know there is a good article on CDFreaks about upper and lower filters around the drive driver. It will probably be easier for me to find it and post a link that tell you where to look.

Filename illegal characters in DVDFAB Plat 3.0.4

Hi,
I've just started using this product and have come across a problem...

I am trying to copy a DVD which has a colon in the title..., i.e. "Imperium : Fall of Rome"

When I start off a copy DVDFab reports that it failed to create the temp directory....and wont go any further...

Is there any way to change the name of the target temp directory from with the program...or can anyone suggest a work around?

Cheers
Andrew

Re: For Help

hi, Andrew

Please try to change the temp directory setting in "Common Settings \ General \ Temporary directory" .

you can find the "Common Settings" in right corner of DVDFab main Window.

Thanks

Re: For Help

Thanks....but this doesn't solve the problem...as the program tries to create a new directory with the title of the DVD where ever you point it....
And as the DVD title still has illegal characters for a filename, in its title, the program wont let you proceed...

But thanks anyway! :-)

Cheers

Re: For Help

Hi Ting,
as I mentioned in my first post, the illegal character is a colon - i.e. "Imperium : Fall of Rome"...so when it the program tries to create a directory with that name it fails....as a colon cannot be part of a windows filename or directory.

Cheers

Re: For Help

Not sure where to post this. I recently tried to copy The Descent. I was able to copy it to my harddrive using DVD Region Free CSS and Intervideo DVD Copy 4. But I can only view on my computer using intervideo dvd copy. WinDVD, Windows media player, and interactual player can not read my files. When I've burned discs from this copy on my computer, the same problem. Only intervideo DVD copy 4 can play the discs. My panasonic dvd player cannot read the discs either. Not sure what to do . Any help appreciated.

Re: For Help

I am very new to the forum and not sure I will even be able to find my way back to check if anyone has replied to this post so if anyone reads and has the time to drop me a line, would be appreciated. I am open to suggestion to different software but at the present time, I am using dvd fab to rip movies and convertxtodvd to do my converting/burning (though I have found to convert 4 episodes to a disc, it is taking me a couple hours and IF there is a faster program available, please point me in that direction lol. The biggest issue I am having is when I am trying to rip a copy of discs from a box set, dvd fab is splitting the dvd-9 disc to 2 discs. Putting episode 1 and 2 on disc 1 with extras and 3 and 4 to disc 2. I would rather lose all the extras and have 1 final disc with the 4 episodes on it, but not sure how to do this. I have sat for awhile and looked in the disc 1 and disc 2 section of dvd fab and not sure what streams, etc to remove to bring just the episodes to the 1 disc. I unfortunately am not the quickest when it comes to learning software but with some simple step by step, I will quickly grasp it so if anyone out there has the time to help me with this issue, would greatly appreciate it

Welcome to the forum, Romulus/John and I sure hope you can find you way back! Not sure which DVDFab program you have, but it is easy to make clean (no extras or menus) discs of TV shows with Platinum. Whether you can live with the large amount of compression it would take to get 4 on one DVD5 disc is something else. If you don't already have Platinum, you can download a full-function 30-day trial here and see if it works for you. For your purposes, you would probably want to use the "Customize" mode and keep an eye on the "Quality" number in the lower part of the window. It will start going down the more episodes you add to the DVD; I try to keep it above 80% or so but opinions on this differ based on what one is willing to accept in the final video quality. Might want to consider DVD9s if quality is really important to you.

It is usually best to back up main movie only for several reasons. You can usually get it on a Single Layer disc that are reasonably priced especially when you buy in bulk online and free S&H is included. You can find TYs for about $.25 each delivered in lots of 200.

Less compression has a better picture and there are not a lot of ads and other annoying extras to delay the start of the movie.

The best reason is that DVD producers do not want a large number of dissatisfied buyers, so they place all kind of tricks in the extras. If they are not careful, the protection will cause problems on many players, so they figure people are less likely to exchange a DVD as long as the movie plays okay. They put bad sectors, vobs, etc., and sometimes they will put a scene in there that keeps repeating and expanding when one tries to compress the contents of the DVD. These lurk in the extras and when played they are skipped unless you try to change the contents.

Another trick is to get you to install a player that is included on the DVD. Sony settled some law suites by several states for using this to put malware on peoples computers that caused a lot of problems when you tried to copy their DVDs. This was called rootkill and could disable your burner.

Also, never install Inner Actual Player as it can cause problems. If you notice Fab take awhile to load minimize Fab and you may see a screen requesting to install this or another player. Always deny the request and close the box. You might want to put DVD in and wait several seconds to see if a player tries to install.
Hi Mr Mac!
I noticed you post from September 2005 in regards to bad sectors being added to the extras in a movie, and to only back up the main movie. I've read a recent post in regards to a problem backing up the movie "CRANK" this IS MY movie BTW. I've vowed to back up any new cds or dvds immediately since I've had soooo many scratched etc. I'm sorry but personally I think this "plastic" media is far to vulnerable to trust with 20.00 to 40.00 movies and music let alone family photo archives. Any way I thought I would attempt to backup the movie "The Illusionist" using DVDfab and DVD shrink and it was fine. I tried to backup "Crank" 3 times. It appeared to accomplish this successfully. But it wouldn't play in my PC or my dvd player. So after seeing your post about the main movie I tried that, but the actual main movie file isn't there only the darn behind the scenes files which are all named differently but seem to be duplicate files? This movie is by Lionsgate, I don't know if they have some trick to their copy protection that 20th Century Fox doesn't have?
Any Ideas? I'm pretty new to this, but I did try to get the tutorial on the website and it's not there. And I also tried to search on the forums and found that dead end cause it was a rental movie. Thanks, any help is much appreciated.

For the very few discs I've found that DVD Fab & DVD Shrink couldn't handle by themselves, I've had very good luck with Sly Soft Any DVD. It has a 30 day trial, also. I have purchased both DVD Fab Gold & Any DVD; along with DVD Shrink & the original DVD Decrypter (for ripping moderately scratched discs) I haven't found a disc i can't rip other then severely scratched discs.
