Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

A very minor feature change request...

On my machine, I paused a DVD to iPod conversion for several hours because I needed to work with other apps and the process slowed these other apps.

When I returned, about 6 hours of "pause" had elapsed. When I restarted it, the "encoded Fps" was very low (less than 1) because it seemed to count the time paused as part of the equation. As such, the "task time left" counter reflected a very high value, even though I unpaused it and the time left should have been lower. I'd recommend having these timers reflect the unpaused processing to avoid this.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

The following would be helpful:

1) An error read retry mode, like DVD Decryper. I couldn't copy a disc due to an error as DVDFab aborted, but Decrypter eventually completed the job after 40 read errors.
2) A setting whereby preferred subtitle languages e.g English are selected and the rest deselected, as in DVD Shrink.
3) I copy from disc to hard drive, and have to click on folder icon everytime to specify my default location. It would be nice if DVDFab could remember last target and select it automatically instead of the initial DVD drive.

Look in Common Settings-->Read for ways to customize error handling. The exact feature you ask for is already there! If a disc has that many errors, is the resulting output worth watching? You can also (in Common Settings-->General) set up a default output directory that will always be in the "Target" drop down.

How did I miss that Thank you for pointing it out to me. What I actually meant was that it ignores the read error and carries on with the next sector, instead of aborting after x tries. Mine was set to abort after 1 retry.

Yes, that's correct. I have to click on the folder icon each time so that the target changes from the DVD drive to the default output directory. What I mean is that the default output directory is shown at startup, instead of the DVD drive (saves me clicking the folder icon).

DVDFab is a feature rich product and some of it is easy to overlook. I misunderstood your other request, but I see what you mean now. A checkbox for "Always write to HDD" in Common Settings-->Write would be nice, I do that a good bit myself.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

I would like to have the option to seperately compress the menus. This is the one feature from DVD Shrink I don't see in Platinum, & one that can be useful. Sometimes severely compressing the menu will allow a film to fit on a dvd5 with no compression while still maintaining the actual menu.

Fengtao
Great Work; as it just keeps on getting better.
I back up all my DVD's twice. Once to anouther DVD and the second to a Hard Drive.
Is it posible to have the temporary file created as an .iso. This would give me the ability to burn a back-up and the Drag and drop the Temporary .iso to a storage Hard Drive. I prefer to save my back-ups as .iso as appossed to file folders.

Along with your software up grades I have continued to upgrade my computer. The speed at which I process DVD's now is incredable. The speed of the processor doesn't make much differance (AMD 2800 - 3800). I fould the bigest improvement when I started using 2 10,000 RPM Rapter Hard Drives. The OS on one and the work space (Destination for temporaty file and finished projects) on the other. at least 1g -2g of memory and a PCI-express video card. 2 Plextor Burners (PX-740 & Px-760). The mother board supports 6 SATA2 over and above the 4 SATA raid conections.
I give your software most of the credit, as well as the hudge differance the Hardware and software upgrades have made.
Thanks again Glenn

Fab will already do this. Just uncheck the "Delete Temporary Files When Done" in Common Settings and use Clone mode. The temp file in Clone mode is an ISO.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

Yes Fab does .iso temp file in the clone mode, But we back up a lot of our DVD's in Movie only mode. The temp file here is a file folder.
It would be realy convieniant to have the Movie only files or even Full Disk Temporary files to be an .iso.
This would be a realy usefull feature.
Thanks
Glenn

I have been asking for this feature and Fentao said he would consider it. This was several versions ago. I hope it is still being considered as an option on soon to be released version. I have been using VobBlanker and Shrink to achieve this because using Shrink alone will drop the menu. It would be great to be able to accomplish this with one application.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

I whole-heartedly concur on a pre-set conversion for Zen Vision:M. There are a lot of specific products out there that claim to do DVD to Zen (ie, M2Convert). They are too buggy. I love DVDFab instead.

I have been agitating for this too, plus the ability to set compression on a title-by-title basis. Fengtao reads this thread frequently and I have seen many thinigs requested here turn up sooner or later, depending on complexity. One thing requested here turned up in a beta three days later (may have been coincidence of timing, but impressive).

Could you make DVDFab compatible with aero in Win Vista? It cuts off aero everytime I start it.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

I don't whether this is the right place to report bugs, but DVDFab does not set the booktype for my LiteOn drives according to the preferences setting in DVDFab. I have to use the LiteOn Booktype utility to set the booktype to DVD-ROM before burning the disk in DVDFab. There are other threads in this forum where users have mentioned the same problem.

Assumming this is a drive specific problem, it would be nice to have this preferences setting working for LiteOn drives, as I use it for almost every disk I burn.

Regards,

Fred

I have Vista Ultimate 32 bit full version, just installed, and FabPlatnium works just fine. I believe "Aero" is just a theme.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

Aero disables itself every time I start DVDFab, then re-enables when Fab exits. I get a pop-up at the bottom of the screen telling me it is going to do this every time. The pop-up tells me it is doing this because of incompatibility or low resources. I have one GB of ram, but that still might not be enough on this OS. I thought maybe it was the interface of DVDFab that is incompatible, because I don't get the message on progams like Nero which is definitely a memory hog and it doesn't disable itself with Nero.

What I'd REALLY like is the ability to rejoin dvd's previously split with DVDFab.

It has been posted on another thread that many systems might be incompatible with Vista if you do not have a good CPU with at least 1GB of system Ram available

Thx.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

DVDFab should not use the overlay surface for the preview, as it is incompatible with Aero glasss effect! Switching to DirectX will not only make it compatible, but also fix the problem with the preview not working on many Vista systems!
