Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

I too would like the option of retaining the original menus, or the option of creating simple a menu when using the "Merge" mode.
A simple option of choosing Movie 1 or Movie 2

Thanks..

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

I would like to see the Merge mode do a true merge instead of creating another VTS like Shrink does. Creating one VTS would be great for the so called Flipper discs.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

Bug: DVDFab will not MINIMIZE to taskbar by clicking on DVDFab's taskbar button. It will RESTORE ok... but just won't minimize.

Bug: The option "Do not eject disc when finished burning" seems to have no effect. I would like to be able to rip/burn/verify on a laptop-style burner (can't close by itself) in all one swoop... without me having to manually close the burner's tray.

thanks!

Bug: Write Data doesn't work (DVDFab Platinum 4.0.6.2)

Bug: On DVDFab Platinum 4.0.6.2, "Write Data" fails when burning an ISO image file. The ISO image file is a Star Trek: TNG series DVD and is 7.7GB trying to burn to a DVD+R DL. The message that pops up is:

[Dvdfabplatinum]
Cannot open file H:\TNGS2D6.isoVTS_02_0.IFO

(yes, the filenames are smashed together like that)

please advise,

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

Would like to have the ability to change the audio frequency (sampling) on the DVD to Moble configure options.

Options appear to be in the XML profiles but I cannot find the option on the screen.

Great program!

would like the preview window to include audio thanks, so one can differentiate between the directors comments and the movie.

Hi cyspur,

The preview actually plays at a faster than normal framerate so the "preview" is designed to not play the audio...I guess it would be like alvin and the chipmunks anyway, or worse...

I know this has been requested previously and I'm not sure, but re-working the preview might be on Fengtao's "to do" list.

Good idea to bring it up again, it'd be a useful feature for some dvds, especially for concert dvds, etc...
stuff tends to get buried and lost in such a long thread.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

hi maineman

Maybe Fengtao could normalize the speed of the preview, so as to enable sound. The slider is there for faster preview. Just a suggestion

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

I would like to see a "Rip to TiVo" option.

I typically rip the Main Movie, then end up with multiple 1GB files. Then I need to combine them into one file (using COPY a+b+c dest) and rename it to have a MPG extension.

It should be pretty easy to add such a feature - would save a lot of data schlepping on my part.

Thanks.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

It would be nice to be able to set a compression level manually: 75%, 25%, etc.

Shows that are cartoonish in nature compress very well without noticable loss in quality, and it would be nice to be able to compress them to an acceptable level for archival.

Improved .MKV support = Virtual DVD!

It would be a great marketing boon to be able to say that your product can make a "Virtual DVD file" that retains all the features of the original DVD!

MKV has the potential to be a complete (all in one file) Virtual DVD.

I love that you have added MKV support but all the features of MKV that make it great are not supported yet. (Chapter Markers, Multi Audio, Multi Sub, & Menus)

Suggested features for more complete MKV support:
(in order of suggested addition)
1. Support for Chapter Markers (coped from original chapter marks on DVD)
2. Support for Multiple Audio Tracks.
3. Support for Multiple Sub-title Tracks.
4. Support for Menus (copied from original DVD Menus)

.MKV official website: http://www.matroska.org/

Another suggestion: ADD video resolution "same as source" option. 720 x 480 (my DVDs original video size) is not even an option to pick. Maybe this is because of the codac and there is no way around it?

One more suggestion: ADD an Anti Aliasing filter to make subtitles that are rendered to video look better, right now hard subs come out vary poorly (blocky text)
I backup all my Anime DVDs to HDD but I have to render the subs to the video (or to an external file) and I can pick only one audio track.
Thanks for the Great Product and all your continued work on it!

Brian Smith

PS. As of 4.0.6.2 Audio is out of sync when making mkv xvid-mp3, it is ~ 2.5 seconds off. It maybe that one of the betas has fixed this already.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

I'd like to be able to encode my unencrypted M2TS files. I've got a bunch of movies that really need to be backed up. It would be nice to get all these 20-30GB files down to 4-6GB H.264 files. Is there already a way that I'm missing? It doesn't load any video no matter what level folder I select.

Also, I agree with enriching the MKV support. There isn't any point to encoding to an MKV as it currently stands without supporting all the cool features like chapters, subtitles, & audio streams.

I would like to have the option to burn directly from a dvd drive to a dvd burner instead of the software first copying to the hard drive then to the burner.

That is called burning on the fly which IMHO isn't a very good idea as both burners will not be in sync, such as it will burn faster that the other one can read and vice versa which results in problems as many people have found out

Same as Surce Resolution / Pixel Aspect Ratio (= Anamorphic AVI)

This would be wonderful and it's easy to do. To get the correct display aspect ratio in the end DVDFab just needs to let the Xvid encoder know that the Pixel Aspect Ratio is non-square. It can write any Pixel Aspect Ratio into the stream header, and this is already available in all tools that directly let the user configure that codec, i.e. VirtualDubMod and others. But those tools are all harder to use than DVDFab.

The advantages are:
  • Faster encoding (no rescale needed)
  • Higher picture quality (rescale deterioates quality somewhat)
  • Smaller file size (no upscaling to square pixels before encoding needed - no dummy pixels that weren't on the DVD added)

In these days of high def content, cheap high-def displays and cheap storage space, I don't want throw away picture detail from my DVDs by downscaling when encoding. But I also don't want to just waste space and CPU cycles while losing out quality by upscaling 720 x 480 to 848 x 480 (NTSC) or 720 x 576 to 1024 x 576 (PAL).

Some may worry about playback compatibility but I've found that to not be a problem. Although AVIs with non-square pixels are rare, they are handled perfectly and presented in the correct display aspect ratio by VLC, mplayer Windows Media Player and all other DirectShow players with the Xvid, DivX or ffdshow codects installed. The one exception is that Nero's Xvid filters ignore the Xvid stream's pixel aspect ratio, but installing that crappy codec is just one of a million bad things Nero does to your system. I don't use stand-alone DivX players, so others will have to report on their compatibility.

In theory there this can be useful for 4:3 DVDs also. Although not marketed as such, also 4:3 DVDs are also also technically anamorphic with slightly non-square pixels.

These are the Pixel Aspect Ratios used in DVDs:

16:9 NTSC: 720 x 480, 32:27 PAR
4:3 NTSC: 720 x 480, 8:9 PAR
16:9 PAL: 720 x 576, 64:45 PAR
4:3 PAL: 720 x 576, 16:15 PAR

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

In generic.h264 profile configuration, I'd like to see support for the Single Pass - Quality Quantizer Average mode, also known as the "CRF Mode".

It will encode with an average quantizer instead of a constant one. To be more precise, this mode encodes at a constant rate factor (CRF). The so-called "rate factor" is simply a different metric for quality. This suits human perception well. For example it will raise the quantizers in "fast" scenes where the loss won't be visible anyway and lower the quantizers in "slow" scenes.

Re: Feature Requests for DVDFab

Would be nice if it could also be used to burn regular files (not ISO image). I have HDTV recordings on my PC hard drive that I would like to backup/archive. Would be nice if I didn't have to install Nero or other burning software if DVDFAB had this built in.
