FabExpress won't burn anymore !

When I try to burn with DVDFab Express (2.9.7.2) I get an error (DVD,:5) with VSO. When I try to copy it with Nero 6 or 7 I get error code 4015.
I have tried to tell FabExpress to burn some more on a DVD without result.
Something must have happend after last Windowsupdate or something, because I have never seen this issue before.

The only thing that works is to burn to HD first with FabExpress and then burn the disk with Nero.

Please help, what to do??

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

I have just backed up a six month old film with no probs! I to have recently had an update for windows. To make the test as hard as posible I used a -dvdr. It ripped, burned and finalized perfectly! I think you need to look elsewhere for the answer to your problems

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

Hi !
yesterday I tried to copy the full disk with Madagascar R2 from two differrent computers and it failed when trying to burn with VSO and Nero. No errors in the logfile!? Instead I put the film on HD and then tried to burn from DVDFab Express with the same error/result.
The error code is ( DVD.:5 ),when I put in a new DVD. Is it something with the size ?? The size of the file is 4,48 GB (4*819*763*200 byte) in explorer.
The default size in Express is 4,472 GB.

Why does the DVDFab pull out a larger file than it should ???

From the logFile :
2006-03-07 10:04:07 info Scanned files #97, folder #2 - total size 4417593344 b. (4,11 Gb.)
2006-03-07 10:04:07 info Inserted media type : DVD+R
2006-03-07 10:04:07 info Write started

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

I have had exactly the same message yesterday, but only on one film!

Sadly I have no idea how to back up from HDD with nero to do the DVD as it copied to the HDD.....

Can anyone please enlighten me on that score?

Steve

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

Hi cetnik30,

Madagascar caused a lot of heartache...there were multiple threads re: it and both fab and slysoft apps had trouble...I'm certain others did as well. The new copy protection created disc structure issues when creating a bkup. If you do a search here on cdfreaks, you'll find a ton of info. Also, if you bkup just "main movie", you should avoid most of the trouble.

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

Hi natsun,

First off, you have to have nero installed separately on your system. You may be able to simply choose nero on the settings page (either express or gold) and do the whole rip and burn in one shot, otherwise, there are a couple of ways to do it, depending on the fix. Some folks are able burn with the fab app and others need to burn from the nero app.

Anyway, choose a folder on the hd as the target instead of your burner. When the rip is complete, close down fab. Option #1, open again, and choose nero as the burn engine on the settings window in fab; express has two choices: vso and nero; gold has four choices, but here, just pick nero (mcdb is outdated and copy dvd relates to creating an image...I think...never used it).

Option #2, after the rip with fab, close it and open the nero app and just choose the folder as your source. If you have nero recode2, it will take longer but yield much better quality. If you run in to problems, just holler.

Hope this helps...

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

I have had the same problem. My DVDFabExpress worked flawlessly for almost a month, now I can not copy any DVD with it. I get a 96 error on start every single time. The computer used is not connected to the internet, so it does not recieve up dates.
I have a seperate partion that I use as the buffer/mirror for the burn program and not a seperate DVD drive.
I have recieved no help from customer service to date on this issue. As it is now I have wasted my money on this program.

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

Hi Tachikaze,

Sorry to hear of your problems...it's always frustrating to pay for a program and have it function poorly, or not at all. There are definitely, some bugs in recent versions. I know that your not connected to the internet with this pc, but have you updated the version since the initial install?

This may or may not work, but what the hell. Uninstall fab completely, but be certain to keep your reg key saved to a disc, etc., or retrieve it via email here and hang on to it.

After the uninstall, reboot and run a decent registry cleaner. I use regseeker, it's easy, safe (as reg cleaners go) and it's freeware. You can dl it here .

Reboot again, and run the reg cleaner again. Reboot once more. Now dl the latest version of fab to a disc and install the new version (platinum v.2.9.7.2) via the disc. Reboot for the last time (we hope).

And if you could please not cross post/multiple post, it would be appreciated (btw, it's against forum rules).

Hope this helps,

Tom

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

maineman,
Thank you for your response, it appears as you are the only one to have offered any assistance. The stuff I get from customer service is a waste of time.
I have run three seperate registry scan programs.
I then uninstalled DVD Fab Platnimum.
I then rebooted and ran the registry scan programs again.
I then rebooted and installed DVFab again.
I rebooted.
I ran the registry scan programs again.
I ran the DVD Fab Express, error 96 received.

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

Tachikaze,

That's really too bad, you're probably about ready to throw in the towel. I had an older pc that had persistent and similar problems. Thankfully, my newer custom pc did not. Ultimately, i uninstalled fab, ran the reg cleaner, did a system restore, ran the cleaner again and did a new download and install and finally had some resolution to my headache. I'm sorry, i'm just not sure what else to suggest...

I wish you luck...

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

Is the drive itself okay? Anyway you can test with another burning app? I thought Nero was terrible still I realized my crappy Madog burner was NG! Really, for most part Fab works. One final thing, saw as Tom recommended reinstalling Fab....is it the latest, or very recent version? Awhile back, actually verison in the 2.8's I think, did indeed have an issue with included VSO burn engine.....but actually from post looks like you don't even get that far....

[quote=Tachikaze]My other DVD and CD burning programs all work fine. QUOTE]

I had a computer crash, resulting in me doing some research on different programs. In the OIK (XP Oem Installation Kit), I learned that windows has a place that it stores system files that can be used by several programs one being hal.dll (hardware application layer) which is used by several burning programs. Patin Couffin uses hal.dll too. When Windows loads a program that need that system file, it will load the latest version which can cause conflict. Later when I have more time and fell more brainy, I will write an article to post in the for help section. My computer crashed after I loaded Nero Ultra edition 6 to burn a couple of CDs. After burning with Nero, when I tried to start Fab I got message that couldn't initialize VSO Burning Engine. I tried rebooting and got message that hal.dll was missing or corrupt.

Re: FabExpress won't burn anymore !

I have run the registry scans as suggested by customer service. I then uninstalled them as requested.
I have now reinstalled DVD Fab Platinum. I still get the error 96. If I try to burn only the main movie I get this error also.
