Re: EDGE-9 Protection

Google comes up with nothing, and there are only a few references to it elsewhere, but I have just updated fab to the beta version 2.9.8.5 beta and in the changelog I can see that Fengtao is now adding support for this protection with a named disc title in region 2, I am region 2, so there must be other known titles, so maybe someone should keep a note of them, so we don't get caught out and spend precious time trying to backup a disc that we think is Ripguard or Arrcoss, maybe Fengtao will know how many titles and there names !!!!

Re: EDGE-9 Protection

Dear all,

There is a customer who sent me the IFO files, and told me that it contains Edge-9 protection. The protection is different from ARccOS and RipGuard, so I think it may be Edge-9. Now I'm waiting the reply of the customer to get more information.

Best Regards,
Fengtao

There is definetly new protection on R2 discs. Don't know if it si edge9 or someone mentioned core x2 in other post. But I wasn't able to backup Lord of War R2. DVDdecrypter not even loads disc (something with unable to read vts informomation), latest dvdfab decrypter messages on disc analysis unable to read disc information err. # 1000.

Re: EDGE-9 Protection

Hi cepielka,

Please send us all the .IFO files on Original disc, then we will check the problem.

A recommended way is listed below:
1) Open an Explorer window, and navigate to VIDEO_TS folder of the DVD.
2) Copy all files ending with .IFO to hard disk.
3) ZIP the IFO files on hard disk to one file. Name it with a readable filename, like Stealth_UK.zip.
4) Send the zip file to fengtao(at)dvdidle.com, you need replace (at) with @.

Best Regards,
Fengtao

I don't know where you are in region 2, but I am in England, and I backed up "Lord Of War" when it first came out ages ago, and I used whatever version of DVDFab(free) was out at that time without any problems(full disc) so could be an update problem.

Re: EDGE-9 Protection

Froggythrower: Well, it's different disc, because of different distribution. There are local distributors who buy rights and release own DVDs. It's not same like when you have for example Warner Bros. UK and they distribute WB titles. I hope it makes sense. Same problem is with czech DVD "Proof". I don't know what protection is on these disc - Lord of War / Proof, but it came from Brickbox

Yes I understand that now Sonoluca, thankyou, you have got it hardest of us all then, at least we know the distributors dare not mess with the discs we buy.

Re: EDGE-9 Protection

OT/
The biggest problem is new law, you must not make a backup of DVD you own if it's protected. You can only backup DVDs with no protection -- it's ridiculous. And i don't know how it comes in UK but we pay here special taxes (included in price of blank DVD, CD, new HDD, MP3 player, etc.) which come to private organization - representative of singers, bands, etc. Who cares lots of people use HDD or DVD/CD media for backup their own work. So these "artists" can only sit home and wait for our money.
/OT

So the artists would receive money when you buy blank DVD/CD even if you were not going to use it to back up commercial/protected material ??? That's just criminal and wouldn't be accepted here.
In UK (and most of the world I imagine) we are not allowed to backup anything that is protected by copyright, except our own home movies, not even titles we bought/own, not even record the television programs, it doesn't matter if the discs themselves are protected to stop you backing up or not, but it doesn't stop people, just look at how many people downloaded RIPIT4ME in it's first month of becoming available 134,000 times, that means there are a lot of backups out there!!!!!

Re: EDGE-9 Protection

Hi cepielka,

Please be patient. I'm working on a complete new protection removal engine, and in my testing, all such discs is ok.

The new beta should be out in several days.

Best Regards,
Fengtao

Re: EDGE-9 Protection

Hi Hans,

Since the CORE X2 is only released in Czech, and we do support it in latest beta (although it's not perfect for now), we will focus on making DVDFab 3 Final at first.

Best Regards,
Fengtao
