Re: DVD's will only play on computer not dvd player.

Hi FELIXTAX and welcome to cdfreaks,

Yep, sounds like a broken record, but...
The most frequent causes of burn errors are: poor quality/marginal media, incompatible media and inappropriate burn speeds...if burn speed is the issue, it usually, but not always, helps to slow down.
First thing to try here is to get some quality media...no way for us to know what flavor the staples brand is...
Recommend Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
If you need help with online sites and decent prices, just ask.
Also, recommend you obtain the MID (media code) of your blank media.
Click on the "disc info" tab in Nero CD-DVD Speed . If you don't have this utlity, just click on the link.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I will try some of the blank media you recommend. How do you slow down the burning speed. The dvd's all burn successfully, they just don't always play on my sony and bose dvd players.

Check the specs on your players: some will not play both +R and -R discs, only one or the other; I have an old Ilo/LiteOn that has that problem. You can slow down the burning speed in "Common Settings-->Write". Do this after putting the blank media in the burner or the correct speed options may not turn up. I burn at 4X or 8X and have few problems, even with my craptastic standalone players.

Yes I agree with Signals on this matter
fairly recently I have found using -R discs seem to play in standalone players mostly.

Re: DVD's will only play on computer not dvd player.

Are you burning DVD +R discs? If so, check to make sure that you have set DVD FAB to book type DVD-ROM.
I had not set this setting when burning a DVD +R and DVD played fine on computer, but very erratically in home DVD player (played chapters out of order, skipped some, etc.). Once set, discs play fine in home player.

This is assuming you're burning using FAB's built-in VSO burning engine and not Nero or another burner. Nero will automatically set the booktype to DVD-ROM for +R.
