DvdFab Platinum Error 116

I recently upgraded to the latest version of DvdFab Platinim - v4.0.1.2 from v3.2.1.0, and am now getting the "Task_2 failed, error 116" error message. This happens on 2 of 3 machines, both using lite-on drives. The machine that never seems to have a problem has a Sony burner in it. Prior to the upgrade everything was ok. Any ideas besides downgrading my upgrade? Thx.

Thanks, I hope I get a response. I've used the same burners and media (TDK-R) for over 300 dvd's with very few problems. We'll see.

Re: DvdFab Platinum Error 116

when you updated did you install v4 over v3, or do you have both v3 and v4 on your computer(s)? dvdfab uses vso for burning, check the device manager for the vso pcouffin driver. uninstall the driver and reinstall dvdfab v4 and reboot the computer. if this doesnt do it stormjumper has a good guide for a clean uninstall/reinstall of dvdfab. the link is for winxp but if you have vista here is that link.

Re: DvdFab Platinum Error 116

After installing v4 I un-installed v3 thinking I didn't need it. I realized to late that some software uses components from an earlier version. You think this may be the case? I don't want to keep wasting dvd's, so I'll wait for your reply. Thx

Re: DvdFab Platinum Error 116

Each new version is complete, ie., is not dependent upon previous "essential" and otherwise missing components.

Agree with Troy... It's likely that you have multiple/corrupted installs of the patin-couffin dirver, etc., etc.
As Troy said, you may want to check this out.
In device manager > VSO > patin-couffin driver.
Delete all and simply reinstall Fab.

If this doesn't do it, like Troy, I think it'll be easier simply to do a complete uninstall and do a fresh install rather than try to find the conflict piecemeal.

Re: DvdFab Platinum Error 116

I kept getting the Error 116 after upgrading to v4 from v3. It would start the burn, run for 3 minutes and fail. I had removed v3 after installing v4 and after digging into the logs I noticed this:

before uninstall:
info Using Patin-Couffin driver Version 1.37, Internal revision 37 - Async. Access mode
info User default language : 1033 (0x0409h) - English (United States)

after:
Using SPTI interface
info User default language : 1033 (0x0409h) - English (United States)

error Write error at 16 (16) - Code 05 30 05 [Illegal request, Cannot write medium, Incompatible format]

I must have un-installed the patin-couffin driver when I removed v3. Maybe this will help someone else.

But both versions need the patin-couffin driver so if you uninstall v3 along with the patin-couffin driver your screwed.

Just read stormjumpers "clean uninstall" so I'll let you all know if this was the problem. Thx for the help so far.

Re: DvdFab Platinum Error 116

You should be all set.
When I read over your posts, I missed that you uninstalled v.3.xxx after installing v.4.xxx.
Sorry about that.

A new install will install all the necessary components although sometimes you can run into problems with uninstalled/corrupted files, but most times you can get away with just reinstalling the current version.

Good luck.

I asked about this a couple of weeks back & fengtao replied that would be OK to remove v3 after installing v4.

( I've not done it though, I figured it would not hurt to keep both versions installed until all the reported burn issues with v4 had been resolved ).
In fact the way I'm now using the programs is to have 3.1.2.0 configured for disable pathfinder and set to autorun. I have v4 configured to always use pathfinder but I'll only rip with v4 if I hit a problem or want to use the new jump to / remove warnings features.

Hi All,

I have been using version 3.1.8.0 and the latest 4 version. Have 2 different folders and 2 separate shortcuts. I have been switching back and forth with no problems.

Yup, that's exactly what I do. Initially, I was running them on separate hdds, but now I've got 'em on the same hdd in separate folders and all's well.

Not sure, but I think quite a few users have decided on this config.
Sure works well...

Re: DvdFab Platinum Error 116

I think Fengtao should put something in the release notes like:

-If you want to remove a previous version, do it before upgrading, or you may risk losing or corrupting files, mainly the patin-couffin driver which may crash any burn attempts. (as in my case)

It doesn't hurt anything to leave both versions, they have a small footprint.
I know Fengtao says v4 installs over previous versions, but it doesn't - it installs in a new directory.

Re: DvdFab Platinum Error 116

The key that was emailed to you when you purchased should work fine. Save the key file, then all you have to do is run it and your product will register automatically. If you can't get that to work you can always copy and paste. (there are intructions in the email) You can also visit here Lost Key? to retrieve your key.

Re: DvdFab Platinum Error 116

I am getting this same error message "Error=116" and have tried everything that has been mentioned.

I have uninstalled all other DVD software that might conflict (AnyDVD, 1ClickDVD and an older version of DVDFab) and then ran CCleaner with a fresh install of DVDFab 4012.

I am burning with an NEC 3530A firmware 3.01rpc from Liggy. Below is the log from my most recent attempt!

Any help would be appreciated! Pulling out what little is left of my hair reading and trying to figure this all out!! I have used 1ClickDVD and AnyDVD for years and similar problems with all software. Reads work great but burning fails 20-70% into it.

Thanks in advance!

rolling56 said it: try different media

-check the VSO in device manager for the patin-couffin driver(32)-if it's there uninstall it
-uninstall V4 again using the uninstall program provided
-follow stormjumpers uninstall instructions to remove directories

CAUTION:do the following "ONLY IF YOU KNOW HOW TO EDIT THE REGISTRY":

-regedit
-find: dvdfab -and remove all reference keys
-reboot
-clean download and install

This process worked perfectly for me. Good luck.

Per the above error code it says my drive is dirty. If so what is the best way to clean a drive? I have a couple of the dvd cleaners with the little brush on them for my home dvd player. Will these work?

Thanks in advance for any help!
