I am sure this has been addressed before but I cannot find a reference to it.

After removing protection and before writing to disc DVD Platinum appears to be calling home. Can anybody tell me why and what information is being sent or am I totally wrong?

Here's an explanation provided by portmac (VSO):

"...It is the burning engine (made by VSO-Software) sending the burn stats to the VSO media stats database. It sends information about the burner/media used, burn speed, amount written, date of burn, total burn time, success/failure, error codes if it failed.
There is no identifyable information sent at all..."

Nice...I'm jealous. It's been beautiful around The Lake Regions area. Now that summer's over, the population has dropped to about 30% by comparison.
