DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 trouble with backups from backups

I am having trouble when trying to make backups from my backups. I have several backups that I made from my DVDs using the full disc option. The originals are now scratched so I am trying to make a new backup from my backup copy.

The copying speed decreases and eventually freezes. One that I am doing right now is at 51.17% and .69MB after 17 minutes. Am I doing something wrong?

The original discs are scratched .... so I am trying to make a new backup from the first backups that I made, which are not scratched.

Any other ideas? I tested with several 'full disc' backups that I made and they are all doing the same thing

Is this on all of them? Maybe the burns were bad? Do the backups still play in the DVD player? Ive scanned in back-ups with no problem b4. Try to see if they scan in with DVD Decrypter. Also you can go to my computer. Right click on the DVD drive's icon and hit explore. Then drag the file onto you HD.

How many discs are we talking about?
Despite the scratches, it sounds like bad media if its several or more.
Run the discs through Nero CD-DVD Speed (link in my sig). You may want to start with "ScanDisc" for bad or damaged sectors and overall "readability". "Disc Quality" test should yield useful info also.

The only way I have gotten backups of backups to work it to decrypt using DVD Decrypter ISO read, then burn ISO with preferred program. I use IMGBurn.

Not to take anything away from DVDFab, this is just how I have had success.

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 trouble with backups from backups

It is not all of the discs, some of the backups copy fine using the full disc. Others would fail using full disc but would work using the main movie only. All of the ones that have failed to copy so far have played fine in my dvd player.

I am trying one of them again now to see if I can get more detailed data, it plays fine in my dvd. I am trying it first with the full disc option. So far it is copying fine and it is on the VTS_01_2.VOB file at 3.39MB speed which continues to increase. I will watch it closely to see if I can determine where it starts to decrease and post back.

I spoke too soon, as soon as I finished my last post it started to decrease in speed. I am going to try and copy the files to my hard drive and try from there.

Return them to where you bought them, I would use some Taiyo Yuden, or Verbatim, I think you might see a difference.

Have you tried to repair the originals. I buy a lot of used DVDs and sometimes have to polish a scratch out. I have an electric repair machine and use Brasso to remove scratches. You may be able to purchase a used one from Netflix. They start at $5.99 and highest is $9.99. There are other places too, but I usually purchase fron Netlflix or local rental store that have DVDs 5 for $20.

Also if your burned DVD plays, try the clone mode.

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 trouble with backups from backups

You guys and your media. rofl. Ive re-scanned and burned plenty of back ups with lesser media. If it plays in the dvd player it should re-rip back in the pc. I use DVD Decrypter most of the time to re-rip the video files back to the PC and burn them. Or you could hit open disc in DVD Shrink, and rip them back in. The best way is to just drag them to a folder. Since its not Decrypted you can do this.

PS:Your local video rental place sell used ones too.

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 trouble with backups from backups

Thanks for all the suggestions. The particular test I did earlier was with a Sony which I thought was a good media ... like I said, it is only with some of the movies that I am having trouble. It just seems odd to me that the ones I have not been able to copy are playing fine in my dvd player and they are practically new, no scratches, no fingerprints, etc .... I take excellent care of my movies.

I just bought some verbatims and will use them for future copies. I am going to try the clone and see if that does the trick. I also have DVD Decrypter so I will try it as well. Hopefully one of those two options will work for me with the ones that I am having difficulty with now.

Thanks again for all input. I will post back when I have time to try the other options and let you know how it goes
