DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

Whenever I try to burn a dvd with dvdfab 3050, DVDFAB becomes unresponsive after the finalization of the disk. Windows XP Media Edition reports it as a hung process. If I force it closed the dvd is complete. The model od DVDDrive is a LG GSA-H22L. It worked great with the 3040 version of your software. Please advise.

I have a work around. If I select to not have DVDFAB eject the disk it does not freeze at the end of the burn.

Is the disc playable? Sounds like a bug to me.

Which burning engine have you selected on the drop down box in Common Settings?

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

Yeah the disks in all cases are playable. Thats what led me to just disabling the eject feature. Because its the only thing left after the finialization. I would prefer the eject feature but there are probably more pressing issues.

I used the VSO burning engine. I can't get the Nero one to work

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

I am getting similar issues with Plat 3.0.5.0 and my LG GSA-H22L. Mine will get to 75% of finalization and lock up. If I manually eject the DVD, it comes out, and DVDFAB says "Burn DVD Completed Successfully", and then prompts for the next blank DVD. (It also makes a horrible noise for a few seconds after I open the tray!) I put in the next blank DVD and everything appears great until it is near completion.
I turned off the auto-eject feature, and this issue is still happening. I have yet to test if the DVD is fully functional.
Any help?

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

wow..

Well, I posted too soon. At the end of disc 2 (again at about 75% of finalization), DVDFAB locked up again. I gave it a minute and attempted to open my dvd tray. No dice. I gave it another minute and tried again. Nothing, would not open, no lights, etc.
So I manually forced the tray to open (paper clip ftw), and the drive made horrible noises but opened.
Both Disc 1 and Disc 2 of my DVD play great, but the LG drive is toast.

It appears this drive is just not compatible with 3.0.5.0? I'll be exchanging it for another brand. (Probably a Samsung).

I have tried to install an older Plextor 716A. Seems to be fine until I load DVDFAB, which then says "Failed to get DVD information" and wants me to send in IFO files. Not willing to say something is wrong with the software in this case, as I believe I was having some trouble with this drive long ago before I swapped it out.

Oh well, I guess we'll see what happens with a new DVD burner after I exchange this LG in 2 days.

I have a variety of similar problems, all at the end of a burn.

1) after the 'long' burn (say 1-1.5 hours ) it starts a second burn , but does NOT activate the drive, and around 73 % it hangs up. This does not take very long 1 or 2 min. At this point the program is NOT RESPONDING and I have to end the task. After this, sometimes I can open the drive, other times I have to let Win XP shut the computer down, and other times I actually have to POWER OFF. I have an LG -H22N

Unless you mangled it with the paperclip I would suspect the software.

'signals' above mentions dropdown ' common settings' .. I don't seem to be able to find them, somebody pls help.

Sorry you're having so many problems. Getting things all working together the first time can be a chore. There is an update to the VSO burning engine in the new beta version(3.0.5.1). Since these problems seem to be with the burn end of the process, why not give that a try and post the results here.

Here is the link for v3.0.5.1 beta of Platinum

I have been using DVDFAB for 2.5 years. Never had problems like I did with that LG burner.
I exchanged it for a Samsung SH-S182. We'll see how that works out. I will report back after I test.

Thanks for the link. I downloaded it. No fun when you're on 26.4 dial-up. Installed it, now the sucker won't load. Double click on the icon, nothing happens, the lights on the HDD flicker for a bit, then nothing. Checked the Task Manager - nada.

The version of 3.0.5.0 was a trial version downloaded on Dec 22.

Reboot your PC and try again. Also do you have a process watch app on your PC. Maybe its blocking it?

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

After reading some of the posts,I've had the same problem at first
untill i realized what was happening. When ever I make a backup
I always disconnect from the internet, turn off all protection including
the firewall. I to have a pause at the end of the burn which last about
five minutes, then it will give me a sucessful completion and eject the
disc. This happens in Full, Movie only, and clone

For a test I backuped an old dvd and didn't turn off the firewall or
anything and stayed on the internet, and there was no pause or
freeze at the end of the burn. This tells me something is amuck, is
there a report going back to who ever or is this just a querk.

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

3.0.5.0 loaded OK every time. I would get the window from the trial version with 2 options 1) to register, 2) use the trial version. I had 26 days remaining.

DVDFab was the only thing running. Nothing has changed on my box, I deleted 3.0.5.0 and installed 3.0.5.1

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

Ditto with the freeze and the horrid grinding sound.

Win Xp media centre
dvd= hp dvd writer 820b

Cd's play fine
lock up at 75% finalisation.

there appears to be several i.e. 2-3 instances of dvdfab.exe running at the same time according to task manger and they can't be killed.

Clicking Close by right clicking on the dvdfab box on the task bar shuts the program down sends an error report or two or three to M$ and then the freeze is released ejection must be done manually even with auto eject selected sans grinding sound thru this method.

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

I am having the same problem also....lock up at about 75% finalization and DVD does play fine. Have to reboot to get locked up program closed and get DVD out of drive.

Win XP OS, HP DVD Writer 840x,P4 2.8g, 1g ram, virus scan disabled during backup, still have several firewalls enabled, VSO Burning Engine used...will try Nero next

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

Approximately a year or so ago, finalization issues were popping up pretty frequently.
For many, this was resolved with disabling/re-configuring firewalls (seemed to be confined to software, no routers, etc.). I'll look for the thread if anybody's interested.

I'd give it a shot...easy enough to check if this is the problem.

Looks like harmabif figured it out as well...nice pick up...

[Edit]
Here's the referenced thread. The firewall stuff starts on or about post #6.

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

Update:

I did a complete uninstall of Platinum and reinstalled the latest beta version 3.0.5.1 Beta. Changed the settings to Nero Burn ROM and did a succesful backup with no problems. I will try the VSO Burn Engine next to see if problem comes back.

I also did the DMA settings that maineman had suggested from a slow burn post and was very pleased with the results. A complete backup from start to finish took about 25 minutes after correcting the problems.

Thanks

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

I got a blue screen when 3.0.5.0 starts to burn to the disc after the copy process has finished. Then I press 'ESC' and the program has shut down. What's with that? I have uninstalled 3.0.5.0 and installed 3.0.5.1 beta to see if that happens again. I'm on Win98SE and I pretty much have a clean computer after a reformat yesterday. I have checked and all my drivers are correct. Any ideas?

Re: DVDFAB Platinum 3.0.5.0 Freezes up at the end of a burn.

Well I thought that I should add my two cents after basically spending the last 24 hours working with DVDfab Platinum 3.0.5.0.

I tried every single piece of advice given here and found the follwing resullts;

Nothing worked.

So I did the following:

-I deleted dvdfab
-Used Symantec utilities to clean the registry of the dvdfab entries
-re installed dvdfab platinum
-cleared all protocols from my firewall and set it to learning mode [symantec internet security 2006]
-launched dvdfab [including using all tips previously mentioned here]
-when the firewall ask for priorities to be set I denied both incoming and outgoing for DVDfab platinum
-I used both DVD dash and DVD plus media the DVD dash media caused the hang the DVD plus media did not

I recieved one [out of about a dozen "burns"] error a 116 write error] with the DVD plus media and no hangs.

DVD plus media completes succesfully
DVD dash media has the hang at 75 percent but still will play in a dvd player

I was connected to the net and had both anti virus and fire wall "ON".

I also experienced the DMA to PIO problem which maineman's post [in his sig.] took care of, the registry edit tool worked and restored DMA.

My system:

Pentium D @ 3 gig
1 gig PC 3200 DDR2
300 gig 7200 rpm hd
hp dvd writer 840b
windows xp media centre 2005 with rollup

all drivers are up to date as is firmware.

Just an aside; DVD fab even created a disc even with my PVR recording, it popped on to record something that I had forgotten about during one session.

Wow! Did you reinstall 3.0.5.0 or 3.0.5.1? Had you tried both + and - type media when it was not working?
