Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux You're right, it doesn't work with encrypted discs. Fab goes through all the motions (and Shrink doesn't complain when opening or processing the rip either), but it's useless with heavy pixelation.

The DVD was one that came out in February, so I'm guessing it had a new encryption scheme on it. Before, when I tried DVD Decrypter, I ended up with just garbage. Maybe downgrading to wine 0.9.39 will make it work instead of 0.9.40...? | |

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux Wanna know something else ?I rip an unencrypted disc with my Lite-On LH-16A1S and Fab/Wine: no problem. I rip an encrypted disc with my Lite-On LH-16A1S and Fab/Wine: garbled image ("green pixelation") - not properly decrypted? I rip the same encrypted disc with my Sony DW-G120A and Fab/Wine: perfect decrypted rip... Is it these new Lite-On firmwares messing things up again? Anyone have a similar experience? I haven't tried the same in Windows, but for me this isn't a problem with Linux or Wine now ...

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux I'm surprised the same problem exists with your older Lite-On, as my Sony is really an old (though not that old) Lite-On rebadge too. Tried one more rip with the same encrypted disc in a BenQ DW1810 (aka Lite-On LH-18A1H), also connected via USB like the Sony. Result: green pixelation... Double-checked with the Sony once again: perfect rip. This is all on the same PC (nForce3 chipset). I did put mfc42.dll in system32 and added it to DLL Overrides in winecfg/Libraries, but don't believe this to have had any effect.

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux After reading a post on Doom9 that the latest version of DVDFab was working on Linux under Wine http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?...&postcount=187 Running Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 and Wine 0.9.30 I was able to get DVDFab to run in full movie and movie only to rip and open in DVD Shrink What does not work Can not change anything under the settings tab and when opening DVDFab while analysing the disk my desktop goes blank in the upper taskbar. This also happened with DVD shrink and was fixed by changing a setting which I can not remember at the moment. Anyways this is very good news!

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux The latest DVDFab beta 4.0 seems to work on Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10, there are still some issues. Here is a link to a post I started at Doom9 with some screen shots. http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?...&postcount=215

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux Hey, Wildchild, this is Trespasser (bjgood here at CDFreaks). . The beta 4.0 seems to work in Gutsy for me as well though DVD Shrink gave me an error (something about it ran out of memory) during the shrinking process but the analyses went well. I think DVD Shrink doesn't function properly under Wine 9.47. Might try an older version of Wine and see if that helps. Well, anyways, nice to see you again and what's with the 88...I thought you were a 77. .Later.

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux Trespasser it's good to hear from you. I have only had Gutsy 7.10 on my system for about a week, but so far I like how it looks. When I get some free time I plan on installing DVD Rebuilder and see if it will run on the latest Wine. There is always my old Edgy 6.10 and Wine 0.9.30 set up that was very stable. Ripit4Me is still going strong on all but a few titles, DVDFab seems to be the future and hopefully we will get some support from the developer. ![]()

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux WildChild, It could be the new Ati driver (version 8.42.3) I compiled and installed on Gutsy. I've got 1 gig of ram so I know it can't be a lack of memory. It has to be something simple as to why I'm receiving that error in DVD Shrink. If you get DVD Rebuilder going in Gutsy please post here, OK? I might give it a try. Catch you later. Trespasser BTW, same error from DVD Shrink in Wine 9.5 (it's actually 9.05). Don't know why WineHQ labeled it 9.5.

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux I can confirm also that DVDFab HDDecrypter 3.2.1.0 is working fine under Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10 with Wine 0.9.46, and DVD Shrink has always played well for me. I have the restricted driver for my NVIDIA 6600 GT as well. This is indeed great news, as I was looking for something to replace RipIt4Me when it becomes too outdated. For background, I like my movies in xvid, to stream through my xbox, so I use this process: RipIt4me (now dvdfab) --> DVD Shrink (to remove unnecessary audio streams, etc before avi conversion) --> AcidRip to convert the movie to xvid. The resulting avi plays flawlessly on both my xbox, as well as in my stand-alone philips divx-certfied dvd player if I decide to burn to disc (love having th LOTR trilogy on 1 disc) So for me, this is awesome.

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux DvD- RB works fine in wine .46. For fresh installs (gutsy, ect.) the easiest way is to save your sys.32 from a working .3x ver. and replace the new one with it. Setup your profile(s), dll overrides as before and you should be good to go. DVDfab doesn't need anything special but can work under the global settings for other progs. Ripit4 is slightly broken (for me) under .46 but there's a workaround The latest wine sys.32 has 1 or 2 new dlls that can be added

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux Slightly OT, but now that we're seeing some successes with DVDFab under Linux, I'm curious as to what distro's we're all running? I've already mentioned my box above: Kubuntu 7.10 with a mix of gnome & kde apps. :Sorry for highjacking the thread, its intended to be only temporarily:

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux So far I have had it running on Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 with Wine 0.9.30, and currently on Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 with Wine 0.9.46 I have a couple of new hard drives on order as well as a removable drive cage, and plan on testing PCLinux and a couple of other distro's in the near future.

Re: DVDfab HDDecrypter in Linux After discovering that DVDFab is working, I posted on the ubuntuforums. It turns out that the green pixelation results I had been getting were an effect of something else accessing the disc before Fab had. Details here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=593904 This tidbit may help some other users as well.
