While attempting to back up The Longest Yard I continue to receive hardware failure and the final product, although viewable, displays graphic and audio freezes throughout the movie. Most freeze points pause for approixamely 15-30 seconds and the movies continues until the next freeze point. I have the ability to burn double layer, but im relatively new at this. I have some questions ya'll might be able to help me with:
1. should I adjust my hardware settings and burn double layer?
2. what does that do anyway?
3. How can I fix and/or avoid these freeze points in my back ups?

*note: I burn in movie back up only and I use default setting currently.

First thing you should do is make sure you have the most up to date versions of both DVDFab Gold ( 2.9.7.0 ) and DVD Region+CSS Free ( 5.9.7.0 ). Also, which region of The Longest Yard are you attempting to make a copy of ? I'm assuming you have a double layer DVD burner and if you have a dual layer capacity blank DVD, they allow you to copy a complete DVD movie, all menus, subtitles, extras, special features, etc. Another suggestion is try ripping the movie to the harddrive first with DVDFab Decrypter, and then try burning it that way.

let me echo what dmp31 states. Also, the latest (2.9.7.0) of Plat/Express/Gold, is claimed to handle a known issue of layer break freeze, at least with certain flicks ripped/burned with Fab. Haven't found a worthy flick to test since update yet.

As I understand the topic of the thread you have DVDFab Gold & DVD Reg. CSS Free both running at the same time? If so disable DVD Reg. CSS Free because Gold will decrypt and DVD Reg. CSS Free can conflict with Gold because you have 2 programs trying to decrypt at same time. I have used the DL feature that is fairly new to Gold without problems playing on my Liteon 5005 and just one small one on my Sylvania player. I got on to DL because ofit was mentioned. When you choose main movie make sure it is the longest one under video as Gold may choose the wrong one at times. Also the one that starts with W is widescreen and the one that starts with a number is regular mode both ar displayed in time. Since you have 2 fab products did you purchase the bundle or have Platinum. If so try Express mode without any other decrypting SW running. I accidently loaded Express twice by double clicking afer I had set the computer for singlr click and that cause a conflict. Also make sure there are no programs trying to access the burner like a plaversuch as incd or one ththat is on the DVD itself as some come with players that will eb trying to prompt you to load behind Fab, I check by minimizing the Fab product because the will not try to load until something tries to access the burner since I have auto play disabled.

do i need to have both DVD Reg Free and DVD Fab Gold? or does DVD Fab Gold decrypt on it's own?

I believe all of my dvd's regions are US/Canada but how can i find this?

DVDFab Platinum which is a combination of Gold and Express decrypts. So make sure any other decrypting program are not running.

Use AnyDvd and Clone DVD. they will do the job. enable anyDVD in the background and don't forget to choose your pal region. shrink it first with DVD Shrink.

Though Anydvd and CloneDVD are very good programs (and god knows why you are using shrink to shrink it when CloneDVD does that) the question is about FabDVD

Just get Platinum it is all you need
