| Re: DvdFab or the dvd player Thanks Jim will give it a shot. Was always told slowest was the best on the burn speed but gonna try it out to see. The movies always seem to play fine until the last 3-4 chapters then thats where i get my problem. And to think of all the dvd's i have wasted now lol. |

| Re: DvdFab or the dvd player You may want to loo at % of compression too. I usually just back up main movie when using SL discs and I choose 4300 as size because I use TY-R 4X value-line and have had similar problems when trying to use a larger setting. Your problem appears to be at the outer edge of the disc which tends to speed up.

DVD 9 usually 100%, but does not matter if you choose Clone mode. Some movied come already compressed. I have had main movies back up at 80%. You can set the size like 4300 in common settings can be changed to 4472.

| Re: DvdFab or the dvd player I think i am going to try just using dvd fab decrypter and dvd shrink to burn em been reading around and seen a lot of people with great success going that route. But will do lots of testing to see what works best for me. |

| Re: DvdFab or the dvd player It's good advice to set your options the way Jimbo suggested, but honestly this sounds like the media your using is low quality or doesn't like your burner.

I agree the best thing to do to avoid losing the quality is to just copy the main movie and not the extra which you seldom use.

Yeah, I'm betting your issues will disappear after switching to some quality media. Stick with Verbs or TYs. Given your current media, you're burning too close to the edge. The predisposition for burn errors increases greatly as you push the limits of the disc...the dye thins out and is inconsistent, any wobble, etc., is exaggerated and the laser has more difficulty focusing. True of all media, but much greater with marginal stuff. Like Mack said, you may also have the problem of too much compression. This should improve also with the verbs, but only to a point... ![]()

I have always doubt about reliability of those none OEM and name brand DVD. For good quality of burn process, use brand names media like Verbatim, Sony and Fuji.

| Re: DvdFab or the dvd player I ran a test today with night at the museum. Burned with dvd fab and also burned with dvd shrink got the same errors on the last 2 chapters on both disk and played in the xbox and the dvd player. So its gotta be the media will get new stuff this weeked. Im also thinking about getting a dual layer burner so i can burn in dvd 9. Will most new dvd players read dual layer dvd's? Maybe that will be a better but more exspensive route. |

As far as your other questions... The answer as to the amount of compression you can apply and stay happy is complicated and very individual. A number of factors come into play, the bitrate of the original, screen size/resolution, etc., etc., and yes, your dvd player as well. Will changing your burner and player help?...maybe?, probably?, but we don't know what you've got. Still, the first, easiest, cheapest and best move is to change to quality media such as verbs and TYs. If you try DL burning, stick with verbatim +R DL only. Personally, I don't like to go much below 80% or so, but that's just me. I'll go down to the 50's % on TV episodes and I've gone down to 52-53% on movies like T2 with very good results and no playback issues. Still, if it's much below 80% on a movie, I'll burn it to a DL for $1.50 or less and maintain the quality. Like I said, you'll have to find your own comfort zone. You'll get a lot of different responses here...as long as it plays ok, it doesn't make anyone right or wrong, it's really up to the viewer. Hope this helps.
