DVDFab Decrypter taking forever

I am using the free version of DVDFab (decrypter) 2.9.7.9, and it is taking forever (>24hrs) to decrypt a DVD that is dual layer. When I attempted to use DVD Shrink, I was getting the CRC error, so I thought I had to use DVDFab. I also switched reading from my non-dual layer DVD drive to my DVD+/- RW Dual layer DVD drive. Would that have something to do with it?

Thank you.

Chris

Re: DVDFab Decrypter taking forever

Hi Chris and welcome,

We will need more specific info from you. You don't need a dual layer burner to read a pressed (studio) dual layer disc (or a burned one for that matter), this is only necessary in order to write to a blank DL.
Do both optical drives behave correctly, other than the above problem?
Without knowing specifics, it's tough to guess.
You could be in PIO mode instead of DMA; check this link and follow Womble's guide.
What movie are you trying to bkup?
Does the process simply come to a complete stop or is the decrypting process still progressing, albeit very slowly?

It may also be either that the disc is damaged or poorly mastered.

Thanks.

I am using Win2K SP4 and my IDE channels both say they're currently using Ultra DMA Mode.

Decryption progresses *very* slowly...now 48 hours and it just cut another VOB...now starting VTS_04_04... Yikes! Can't stand it any longer. Stopped process.

DVD Is Star Wars VI - Return of the Jedi. Just replaced VHS with a gift of the 6 DVDs (10 with bonus). Didn't need DVDFab Decrypter on the others since DVDShrink did the trick. Just this one game me the CRC error. Will try the other DVDs using DVD Decrypter to see whether it works this slowly as well.

Anything else I should try? I'm open to suggestions... :-)

Thank you. Chris

Re: DVDFab Decrypter taking forever

Does the light on the drive blink or is it steady. I would recommend letting any drive attempt to decrypt foe 24 hours. You have a conflict somewhere. How are your drives hooked to IDE channels. Sometimes it may just be the order of hook up and if 40 or 80 wires. A jumper may have fell off. I know Tom recommended to someone to unplug all the drives after deleting the drivers, then when restarted Windows will update drivers. Is there a chance that you have played a Sony CD lately, if so there is a chance you have the famous RootKill malware.

Re: DVDFab Decrypter taking forever

Hello there excited1
I ran into a similar problem a little less than a month ago - it's very annoying and frustrating - I feel for ya. I got a ton of help from everyone on the forum. What finally worked for me (though I have dvdfab express, not decrypter) was something suggested by maineman - he said

"Ok, if I were in your shoes, here's what I'd try. Uninstall your burners (2, right?) via device manager, both on the "IDE controller" and the "DVD/CD-ROM drives"
Power off, then physically unplug the drives (I know it's a pain in the a$$ and probably is overkill, but it'll only take a couple of minutes). Power up and shut down again. Plug your burners back in and power up and just let windows reinstall." - (direct quote from maineman)

Here is the thread if you want to check it out - it has a lot of great advice from the members on this forum.

Hope their advice helps you as much as it did me! Good luck!

Re: DVDFab Decrypter taking forever

THank you everyone. I've learned a lot more about things that have nothing to do with decrypter by have a problem. I appreciate the help. Still would like to know how to solve the Sony RootKill issue or determine whether I have it (downloaded rootkit revealer, will that work???)

Anyway, just wanted to post and say I think I found the problem - at least this time. And the winner is.....PhilAmber. The disc was bad. But I didn't know that until I read some replys and realized that it decrypted okay until it got halfway through 04_02, and then it crawled. I popped it into the DVD player and 40 minutes into it, it stopped, and skipped and barely moved. So it wasn't as bad as I thought.

I changed my driver anyway from the VIA IDE Controller to the standard Microsoft dual, just in case, and rebooted. If there is a way to find out about detecting RootKill, I would appreciate it.

Thanks everyone!!! Another happy customer.http://club.cdfreaks.com/newreply.ph...e=1&p=1472140#

Regards,
Chris
