So what codecs do you have entered in the Preview options?

It would be good in Fengtao came in here and stated which codecs are used for the "Internal" setting (of which I'm getting no audio at all). If I use "Direct Show", I get audio, but with choppyness no matter which combo of audio and Video codecs I put in there (or if I just leave it blank).

Audio choppiness and video breakup seem to go hand in hand for me. It's like reading a bad backup or a disc with fingerprints all over it. ASPI/SPTI setting makes no difference, likewise Read Ahead Cache. I am wondering about access layer problems--about every other time I restart and reload a disc, PathPlayer gets in an endless loop and the drive sounds like it is doing a full stroke for each sector.

Installed ones:

Before installing ffdshow, then I had no sound. Now I always have sound despite the combination that is selected.

You have a DVD with several sound tracks and 16:9 aspect ratio for the main title, that you can test?

For full screen, right click on the preview window.

Re: DVDFab 5.0.4.0 Beta is out

I don't know what to think here. I installed the ffdshow Beta codec. Got kinda of confused installing it cause there were so many setting to choose during the install. Because I didn't know enough of all those damn settings, I deselected all of them except the codec itself. I re-installed DVDFab Beta 5.0.4.0. Chose "Direct Show" again and left the boxes below empty. Started the preview window and got full non-stuttering sound and video! I noticed that the Nvidia Pure Video icon was showing in my Task Bar during this so I'm assuming leaving the boxes blank resulted in DVDFab using the Nvidia Pure Video codec for both video and audio. Man after all this, I don't even want to BREATHE on those boxes now!

A note here for anyone having the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speakers. These speakers have their own digital decoder so the sound card has to be set to SPDIF passthrough for the speaker control panel to do the digital thing. In DVDFab, the preview window behaves exactly like playing a DVD movie in that the signal is digital only. This means that there will only be sound when selecting the Z-5500 Coax or Optical setting. DVDShrink does it a bit differently in that the sound is analog so this switching to digital is not necessary. Took me a while to figure that out.

Re: DVDFab 5.0.4.0 Beta is out

A note for Fentao. This is not a criticism but a constructive comment. The right click switching audio thing needs to be improved. The only comparison I can use to make this point is DVD Shrink so that's why I'm using that comparison. With DVD Shrink, while the preview is playing, right clicking and choosing another audio option is seamless, the movie doesn't even pause and the audio is instantly switched. With this version of DVDFab, doing this same thing results in movie pausing big time, then automatically switching to the beginning of the movie no matter where it was to begin with, another long pause and then the movie starts again. This is quite a cumbersome thing to do for something that should be quick. Hopefully this gets improved as it goes. Keep up the good work, comments like this are meant to be helpful from a user's standpoint.

Just an add to Mike89's previous post, I would love to see support for sub streams also in the preview function.

I would think that with nothing in the filter boxes it would default to the "internal", which is the old Preview (high speed, no audio or full screen).

yes, good point. i read here in posts 34 and 58 that mike89 had good results not selecting filters. however i have also tried a combination of filters. even if i am unable to get audio i dont see why i can not get full screen.

oh well as rollings said, this IS a beta. so i just want to give my feed back.

also signals i read where you were using nero dvd decoder and nero audio decoder 2. ive tried these together, nothing.

This is the only combo that works correctly for me. I did not even know I had them installed; they must have come on one of those free nero discs that come with drives and laptops. I'm still working with this, but no real success except for the Nero pair.

I don't think so. I didn't get any sound at all choosing "Internal" (nor could I get a right click option at all). When I chose "Direct Show" with nothing in the boxes it apparently defaulted to my Nvidia Pure Video Codecs cause I got full Dolby Digital sound. I know it was using the Nvidia Pure Video codec because when it's used, as when I play a DVD movie in WMP 11, it uses this codec and while it's in use the Nvidia icon appears in the task bar and then disappears when closing WMP 11 (as it did with DVDFab). Apparently, choosing "Direct Show" results in digital only output (because when I would switch the Z-5500 control panel to analog, I would get no sound) so the sound card in question would have to be able to encode to Dolby Digital (or in my case, the Logitech Z-5500 via SPDIF passthrough on the sound card, encodes to Dolby Digital). I think if one doesn't have Dolby Digital capability, you aren't going to get any sound cause the signal is not analog as DVD Shrink is. DVD Shrink did it analog because it was designed to be a preview, not a full blown DVD digital player.

Hi Welcome to the forum. I am sure sometime in the future it will be supported. Keep coming back here. Fengtao has a great reputation for excellent updates and software, I am sure it wont be long, but I cannot speak for Fengtao Software so those are just my thoughts.

Re: DVDFab 5.0.4.0 Beta is out

When I reset to nothing in the boxes it uses ffdshow (the first one on my lists). I have made so many changes, now the Nero ones that worked before have quit. I am going back to Internal for now.

Same here...
What was working for me, now doesn't.

As a side note, updating to this last beta...most of my settings were not saved. I experienced a "failed access" error on my first attempt at a bkup
Sorry, I didn't pay more attention to the error details.

Anyway, I"m back to normal with all my settings and with internal on preview.
Thankfully, all seems ok now.

It seem to work fine with titles with only 1 video stream but like you I also have gone back to "Internal"

Re: DVDFab 5.0.4.0 Beta is out

i am still having problems. everything else works but the ps3 profile. dvdfab just closes as soon as i load the file.

5.0.3.0 just stated that the program would close and no solution could be found.

same with 5.0.3.5.

and now with 5.0.4.0 beta, i dont get the dvdfab will close, i just get the big box pop up twice for info to send in one over the other and dvdfab closes.

anyone have any ideas? im still using 4.1.2.0 to this date for converting files to the ps3 profile.

Yep that's what happened to me too. First time I got it to work with "Direct Show" setting (nothing in below boxes). Then I started changing options and then the one setting that worked didn't anymore. Then, as I mentioned earlier, I finally got it working again (with that same original setting). The program is a bit temperamental there. Bummer you had to go back to "Internal" which is what previous versions were (no sound). I think reading this thread is going to give Fengtao a lot of good information to process.
