Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

Fengtao:

Congratulations on the great improvements in Platinum. I have been using the various Betas for about a month became a registered user today, upgrading from Gold. Let me offer the following observations:

Problem Encountered (only one!
Program (3.0.1.5) crashes when attempting to copy a second DVD from a file. Brings up the XP dialog box saying it has encountered an error and needs to close, ...etc. Closing and reopening clears problems, but if you attempt to start a new job after completing a copy it crashes again. The files being read are playable folders produced by DVDFab Express. Crash occurs after pressing "Finish" and selecting a new input folder.

The new interface and user options are great, but still do not allow the control and flexibility of my old copy of DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15. I make most of my copies using FabExpress and DVD Shrink if I need to manipulate the copy process.

My most wanted upgrade: allow setting of burn rate in Common Settings or have the software play a sound when it finishes encoding and brings up the set burn rate dialog box. I have wasted many minutes while this box sat silently on the screen.

Would also like: ability to set begin/end points; control compression ratio on each title when making DVD-5s; better way to set title order under customize with no menus.

The latest Beta produces great copies and the VSO interface seems to work well. Thank you for all you have done, it is a tremendous improvement.

Edited to add the following observation: read rate when copying from unencrypted folder (written by DVDFab Express) on external 7200 rpm drive:
Platinum 3 beta 3.0.1.5: 9-10 MB/s
DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15: 18-20 MB/s
??

I agree with Signals on most points. My most wanted feature would be to allow setting of the burn rate in Common Settings so that when using two burners the burn could continue without user intervention (possibly the set burn rate dialogue box could come up for 30 seconds should one wish to make a change and then continue on its own) and to have the software play a sound when it finishes encoding and brings up the set burn rate dialog box.

So far the latest beta works great - my congratulations. This is now my main burn program!!

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

If only I could get my download of the Beta program to work! It sounds so very nice and would be a great program for me to use (alot!) if only..
When I go to use the program in Clone Mode with the Source Drive having with original DVD in it and the Target Drive as my Hard Drive C: with path to My Movies etc... in just a few seconds I get a Clone Process Started msg. so far I think YEAH! Afterwards, I then change the Source to C: with path name to folder & Target set to my D: (set to DVD-ROM with Verbatum +R DL (RW) media) in it & press Start. I get a Burn DVD image C: & the correct path name listed. Click Start & always get a error msg- Cannot open file C:... with the correct path in it. IF I have the Source Drive with the original DVD in it & use my D: ,with blank media in it, as the Target I get messages about Correct media not in drive Retry or Abort & then the program crashes & I get an email report to send- which is a really thoughtful feature.
Now I'll bet I an doing something very wrong to get these results but after trying with 3 different DVDs & 6 hours I need advice, Advile & strong "tea" & more media of course. Any ideas or suggestions someone may have, boy am I open to hear it!

I am using a 1.7GHz Pent 4, 250G HHD with 175G free, 2 DVD -multi recorders a HP 840x & a TSST-SG-W162z, Win XP with service pack 2 (all firmware & Win XP up to date). Have AnyDVD, ImgBurn, DVDFabPlat 3.0.1.5 (newest beta) Nero 6. something, McAfee & 14 dvd ballet movies/documentaries with 2 layers & protection on them to backup. I do disable AnyDVD & McAfee before trying to run DVDFabPlat-beta.
Your advice and suggestions are really appreciated. For those of you that live over the pond.. congratulaions on a really fine Ryder Cup win today. To any NFL Giant fans- GO SEAHAWKS!!!!

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

Hope Feely is up to it- I know Josh Brown is- met him Friday but we are a bit shothanded today in a few positions. Justa little bit louder today at Quest Field. Hope the program test goes well for you. I just know it's something really easy that I should be doing but I'm not.
Thanks

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

Alan- sorry about the reception in Seattle- bit rude of us Northwesterners to not be cordial to visitors- but then the Mariners make up for that. Best of luck on the test. PS I noticed in earlier posts you were having problems with the last couple of beta tests and honestly some of the screens you posted sure look familiar to me. I do get a C: hard drive path for Target & the one about the media not being acceptable.
Back to Start again.

Congrats on a fantastic product - just moved from Express to Gold. No problems so far, just how do I get the Video preview to work when doing main movie?

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

Hi all,
Have tried 3.0.1.5 Beta and the A/V sync problem seems to be solved (on a small sample file). Will need to try on a full length DVD to see if all's okay.
Cheers
Alan

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

The only title that has given me a problem has been the US Release "The Truth About Cats and Dogs". Decrypted Full disc and Clone always produced the "DISC NOT FORMATTED TO PLAY IN THIS REGION" opening title. We'll I'm happy to report that 3.0.1.5 Beta2 has completely eliminated the problem. Great work Fengtao!

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

I am not sure what the problem is, but version 3 has never consistently worked on my system. I have tried all the betas and now I’m using the latest version (3.0.1.3) without any improvement. The issue I’m having is getting full backups to burn normally. I always backup the entire disc (dual layer), and after 2-3 successful backups the next one take over an hour to complete. (Normally 25-30 minutes) I checked the device manager to try and pinpoint the problem, and for some strange reason even though DMA is enabled when I start burning, it disables after approximately 2-3 successive backups. When I re-enable DMA and continue, the whole process starts again.

I have no issues whatsoever with version 2.9.8.3 and after unsuccessfully trying to find a “work around” for version 3, I gave up and re-installed version 2.9.8.3. I posted some information about this issue before, but my post was overlooked. I really need some help to resolve this issue. Thank you.

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

and the bad news....Even with release of 3.0, some episode disc are not backing up properly. Still a little hit and miss, copy of my Chappelle season 2 results in glitches in selecting episodes, ect. Seems like getting closer though......

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

Hey Larry,

I've done somewhere between 18-20 season discs (all Friends episodes) with Fab 3. All the bkups play perfectly. I had 2 discs fail on read...no burn issues, navigation issues. With the old application, I found that there was no indication of a "bad" copy until you actually experienced playback problems. This time, it seems to be a decrypting or read failure of a specific file rather than the vague failures of the past. At least now, it's infrequent, I know it's failed and I'm not making coasters.

Curious as to specifics of your failures...

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

Hi skypx,

For your problem, Windows XP will turn-off DMA automatically if there are several DVD reading fail. DVDFab will detect DMA state when startup, and can turn it on again.

For now, I suggest you exit and run DVDFab again for every disc, to make DMA is enabled. We will work on this problem.

Best Regards,
Fengtao

Thanks for the reply Fengtao, but I always exit DVDFab (v2/3) after every burn. And thanks for taking the time to investigate the problem.

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

Tom, on Dave's season 2...

-when disc loads, appears has some preview to play, starts, but quickly jumps to the show's little intro(that didnt bother me at all...hate previews)

-plays little show intro, and then main menu comes up for episodes fine.

-selected episode 1, plays fine.

-returns to episode menu, however any other episode selected has the show intro start, but hangs there...not frozen, just like a little loop, never progress to actual episode. Only way to recover is to stop disc, turn player off. turn on load disc, and then select another episode - plays fine...Of course would have to repeat for every other episode you want to watch in that session.

However, as you have experienced, have had luck with other season discs with the 3.0 flavor. Note first one attempted with a final release version, this 3013.

Re: DVDFab 3.0.1.5 Beta

Larry, thanks for the info. Like you said, things are a lot better with season discs, but still the (infrequent now) navigation issues.

Did you happen to try to play this disc on your litey 5005? ...just wondering how player dependent this is.

I was planning on picking this series up pretty soon anyway, I'll let you know how it goes when I get around to the bkups.

Tom
