yeah my problem is not the same as yours........but i'm still trying to track mine down. I have 3 versions of Fab in add/remove. 1 v4 and 2 v5's. So i'm going to uninstall all 3 of them and see if that helps my problem. I'm thinking they are connected maybe in some way? We'll see.

Re: DVD FAb 5.0.2.0 w/Mobile option too slow!!

I have just sent Ting a PM with some captures of Task Manager->Performance+DVDFab task screen of my system running 3 different profiles. I do not have the "starts slow, never speeds up" or "starts OK, then gets slower" problems, but my conversions are all running 10-15 fps slower than with v4, as someone else mentioned. I would share them here too, but I'm having trouble getting the link to work correctly with my image host site.

Is your DVD drive spinning up and down as the cpu goes up and down?

Re: DVD FAb 5.0.2.0 w/Mobile option too slow!!

Thank goodness I'm not the only one having this issue. Full disc/movie only work perfectly, but when I try to rip via Generic, it basically moves to 0.0 encoding fps. But it's very slow in moving down. Starts at 50 fps and works its way down to single digits.

Signals - that is exactly what is happening. Tried two different drives - standard CD/DVD and also reading from a multi function read/write.

Sorry i didn't see your post signals.

I'm using 2 separate SATA HDD's both are 3.0's Segate 320's. Sorry no i haven't noticed any up and down spinning. They are very quiet all the time. You want me to take my side cover off and touch (feel them)?

Just add i'm using the same file as i did to get the 150+fps rate and 2 core 100% CPU usage as i had the first time to try to recreate it but no good.

I am converting from HDD not a disc in a drive.

Re: DVD FAb 5.0.2.0 w/Mobile option too slow!!

Another interesting note. I was looking at th Task Manager for both versions on the dvd-ipod conversion. On the old version 4.0.2.0 it seems like DVD Fab and DVD fab console.exe were taking up alot of the CPU memory. But when i loaded the new version (5.0.2.0.) i noticed on the Task manager "System Idle Process" which was taking about 75-90 % of the cpus memory. While Dvd Fab and DVD FAb console.exe was taking about 15 % of memory.
How come the System Idle Process was not taking up any of the cpu's memory when i was converting with the previous version. It seems like that is slowing my converting speed on the new version.
Any thoughts on this? I don't know if i'm headed in the right directions. But hopefuly this info. will guide you guys in the right directions.

Re: DVD FAb 5.0.2.0 w/Mobile option too slow!!

I heard from Ting earlier. He is testing on different CPUs and thinks that some of the speed difference may be the way some of the changes he made react on different platforms. He asked me to start a thread for everyone to put in some info on their systems to help him formulate tests.

The changes he made in the conversion engine in 5.0.2.0 involve the way buffers are allocated and he also put in a new sync filter to improve A/V sync. He said he thinks he can tweak this to get the speeds back where they should be, but that single core CPUs will continue to be a little slower than multicore. Available RAM is also a factor, but he is testing with 2GB installed with good results. He was grateful for all the information in this thread and will continue to watch it as well as the new one for data collection.

Here is a link to the new thread.

Re: DVD FAb 5.0.2.0 w/Mobile option too slow!!

I am having a similar problem doing dvd to mobile Generic xvid + source audio 2 pass with fixed bitrate 2000. My fps varries from the mid 40's to single digits but ultimately hangs at the end of the first pass. Meaning first pass makes it to 100% but then never starts the second pass. The first pass takes a little over 1 hour. I have left it overnight and it never starts the second pass. I will change my settings to single pass and see what happens and post the results.

Processor info: CPU P4/3.0GHz 800M LGA775|2M and 1.5Gb ram

Re: DVD FAb 5.0.2.0 w/Mobile option too slow!!

Signals

So what he is saying is that in order to use the new software we have to have dual core CPUs with 2+gb of RAM. Sorry, but that is not acceptable. If he can't fix this so that it works as in the previous version then he should revert to that architecture. It sounds like their regression testing is severely lacking. I'm a software development manager myself and this is not the kind of solution I would try to foist on my clients. Perhaps you can convey this to him.

I know your just the messanger so Thanks!!

Try the new settings in v5.0.2.2. They are tucked away in Common Settings->DVD to Mobile->Generic. Others have reported their results in this thread. With your hardware, you should have much better results. Not sure why you don't, especially if you are getting this kind of conversion rate on all movies.
