customise glitch with 3.1.7.0

I make a customise folder on HD for 2 episodes from an X files disc ( the 3rd & 4th ones on the Disc, which is PAl version series 1, disc 2).

The folder looks fine - it contains 3+GB of data & plays fine with powerDVD.

So now I open that folder with Fab as a source file in order to burn it & Fab says there is nothing there!

i.e. Fab doesn't find any titles at all in that folder and reports 0MB available to copy. The folder contains the uusal stuff i.e. 2 x IFO files a BUP file & 5 x VOB files. Here are the IFO files:
Attached Files
File Type: zip ifo.zip (35.4 KB, 11 views)

Re: customise glitch with 3.1.7.0

Hi cybmole,
Please make sure, that you have following folders (only a suggestion):

Xfiles (mainfolder, name is not important)
AUDIO_TS (sub folder, empty)
VIDEO_TS (sub folder with all .bup, .ifo, .vob files)

Open only main folder as source with DVDFab. This works fine for me.
good luck

Re: customise glitch with 3.1.7.0

yep, all of that was there/ NB DVDFab created the HD folder itself, reading the DVD in customise mode + preserve menus & writing to HD. Then it could not read it's own creation, altouhg other software could! ( when I say could not read, i mean that it could not find any titles, not that ther were any red errors.) Evenutally I just copied that folder to a blank DVD using the Roxio Dell edition software which came with my PC & the copy works perfectly in a stand-alone DVd player So it's definitely a glitch within DVDfab - so hopefully someone knowledgable can look at the IFO fiees that I posted & expain it.

cybmole, are you using the paid version or the free version?

EDIT: Sorry, I looked in another of your posts and its seems you are using Platinum.

I thought of another test, which was to take the copy made above & put it back in my D drive for fab to look at. Once again Fab said there was no data for all of the options except for clone. i.e. full, customise, main move & all of the mobile options all said there were no titles. So I let it run clone back to HD & it produced a full (3+GB ) ISO file!
I guess if I were more curious I could reinstall an older version of Fab to see whether its a 3.1.7.0 specific fault, but I an't that bothered as I do have a working backup now, even if it was made in a roundabout way.

Before reinstalling you might want to try with other titles, some you have already backed up and you're sure they work. I am assuming you already used DVDFab to burn those titles.

Have you checked the program has not lost your license registration? Just guessing...

Re: customise glitch with 3.1.7.0

other backups are fine when opened with FAb, and so is the original from which this custom copy was made. so there's nothing wrong with the program installation or with the PC in general,

It's just that in this case, fab can't decipher the IFO's that it has itself customised, and wrongly conlcudes that there is no useful data in the video-TS folder, when in fact there are two x 50 minute movies, which I can view with any dvd player software.

There must be a bug in how customise works when removing earlier titles but keeping later ones. In this case I was usign customise to keep only ythe last 2 of 4 main titles. A similar customise process which selected only the first 2 titles worked fine.

I would guess that the program has done something like this: it has replaced the pointers to the 2 unwanted titles with null links, and it has noted that only 2 titles are required. then, although it has backed up the 2 selected titles OK, it has somewhere recorded the facts that 2 titles present + and also the fact that 2 titles have zero data therefore it conculdes that total movie size is zero. ( I can't actually read IFO files but I'm guessing that that's what has gone on )

Thanks - I will try it as soon as it becomes non-beta. ( I only use beta software when I'm Really desperate - too many bad previous experiences, with other vendor's beta versions have made me very wary of loading software before it is finalised)

What was/is causing this glitch - can you say ?

I've had similar experiences with other titles and with earlier versions of fab platinum i.e. "missing" titles when opening a DVD or a HD folder which was created with fab via customise.

Because of that I now use full disc or clone if that will fit to single layer, and use customise or main movie only to avoid compressing the entire disc.

Re: customise glitch with 3.1.7.0

Hi cybmole,

The beta version is stable enough, you can use it safely.

The problem is caused by an authoring error in early version of DVDFab, and it has been fixed.

Best Regards,
Fengtao

Hi cybmole,
You're right. Some Software-Betas are unstable. BUT: Please note, that this is not valid with Fengtaos Products. The Betas of Fengtao are like final versions...

OK - you and Fengtao convinced me to try the beta - I installed it & re-examined the glitched copy & it looks fine now. So the new beta version has fixed the problem of this thread & I guess I can leave it installed until the next finalised version- many thanks.

Re: customise glitch with 3.1.7.0

Hi cybmole

I think there is still a problem with the customize feature. Spent the weekend playing around with Fab and did a DVD Music compilation. At least Fab now recognized the files created with Customize - but then the problem came.

I used Merge mode to put 15 titles onto 1 DVD but when I tried to play it in my standalone DVD player the disc will not move onto the next title properly. Freezes for ages.

Tried DVDShrink to create the exact same 15 titles onto HDD. Used DVDfab merge mode onto 1 disc and this time it goes to the next title with no problem. FYI pressing next on remote to get to next title with Fabfiles does not work either, but no problem with DVDShrink

Have you tried this?

No, I've not tried merge mode.
you could maybe do a simpler test with RW discs( for economy) Start with just 2 files from 2 sources then build up from there to isolate the problem if that works OK. You may have to send in or post your IFO files to get expert help
