New to this! dvd fab gold sony computer DL DRIVE some movies copys will not play on dvd player but will play on computer

What type of media are you using?
If you are using +R media did you booktype it to DvD-Rom?

the media is RIDATA DVD+ DL all i did was to make 100% copy the player is a sony dvdrecorder about 1 year old some worked I do not know how to booktype any help is greatfull

You might want to try some better media. Verbatim are highly recommended for DL around here.

I'll get the meda you recommended if you think that it will help but why would it play on the computer

Possibly your PC drive has better error correction than your standalone (especially if your Sony drive is a rebadged LiteOn).

Do think its just a change of media will fix this?

Next time you are at a store that sells CD and/or DVD players, look at the box. There will almost always be an asterik where it says what formats are supported. The asterik basically says there are so many variables involved that even if you use a disc with correctly formatted media, it's a crap shoot. In other words, don't complain to the store if the disc doesn't work.

I work in a school and schools have a tendency to purchase from different manufacturers. It is mind-numbing why one disc works in one model but it won't work in a different model even when the box says it supports the format (remember the asterik).

Using the best media is very important and some would say it is critical. There are other variables to consider as well such as burning speed.

Keep in mind that not all drives will allow you to do this and only +R can be changed.

If you do a search in CDFreaks on Booktype or Bitsetting, you will see that this is a subject with much information.
