Compression Quality Comparison Dvdfab Vs. Clonedvd

Hello,

I did this personal comparison, as long as i had to decide what software i should use for daily dvd backup.

CloneDVD 2.9.0.3

vs.

DVDFAB PLATINUM 3.0.8.6

The subject candidate is the movie: THE LABYRINTH OF THE FAUN

To avoid any possible compression alteration i saved the three files in .TIFF format (larger!) approx 2mb x file! Sorry.

There is to say that CloneDVD and DVDFAB, after i applied SAME settings for both, for a misterious reason, they set a slight different compression ratio. (80% first vs 82% second)

Does anyone can notice any difference?

ORIGINAL MOVIE FILE FROM 5.33 GB SOURCE:

CLONE DVD 2.9.0.3, SHRUNK TO 4.33GB, COMPRESSION 80%

http://goodgest.com/kb/clone.tif

DVDFAB PLATINUM 3.0.8.6, SHRUNK to 4.16GB, COMPRESSION 82%

This was an interesting test. I'll wait to look at the tiffs until I am not on a motel wireless connection, but you were right to save the images that way. I suspect the difference in output file size is due to a different default DVD5 size between the two programs (DVDFab is 4300MB). Although I haven't looked at them yet, I would not expect much difference, and what difference there is may only be apparent on moving objects.

Re: Compression Quality Comparison Dvdfab Vs. Clonedvd

Personally I've used both programs and I really have to say that I've had less trouble with Fab than Clone. I used Clone for at least 6 mths. before I ever heard of Fab. And the default setting is different for each. I was starting to have trouble with Clone finalizing the disks too. Never figured it out, but then I didn't have a bunch of people like y'all to help me either. ~ Mike
