cannot open file error at start of burn

Running DVDFab Platinum v4.0.5.5 (first), then v4.0.6.0 Beta (second) on a 2GHz Centrino Duo, 4mb cache, 4gb RAM, Vista Home Premium.

Attempting to clone Farscape vol 2.1 disk 1.

Receiving the following error at the start of the burn task:

Cannot open file
C:\Users\...\DVDFab\Temp\Clone\FARSCAPE S2 V1D1\.isoVTS_10_0.IFO.

Burn log is not diagnostic and appears normal vs all previous backups up to the point of failure. Forwarding zip of IFO's, etc.

Re: cannot open file error at start of burn

Here is the burn log, in case someone finds something in it that I didn't. I'm using Memorex DL +R disks to backup, and so far, with no problems. Since I discovered this software, I've been backing up all of my out-of-print disks without any difficulty until now. Farscape is notorious for challenging copy protection, and this is the first disk of the Season 2 boxed set. Pathfinder is on and finds problems to remove in every VTS except the one mentioned in the error message. Up to now, cloning has been flawless, so I suspect it is something funky about the copy protection.

Thank you all for replying. I am cloning disk-to-disk, not to hard drive, first. Also, I have been cloning other disks without difficulty. I will try a clean uninstall and revert to 4050 and see if that works.

Re: cannot open file error at start of burn

The problem is not the disk. The problem is in DVDFab, and was introduced sometime after v4.0.4.0 Beta. I did a clean uninstall of v4.0.6.2, and reinstalled v4.0.4.0 Beta (the last version I had prior to v4.0.5.5), and was able to clone the disk without error.

The versions that displayed the problem include: v4.0.5.5, v4.0.6.0 Beta, and v4.0.6.2.

Re: cannot open file error at start of burn

Has this problem been resolved? The release notes of the latest release do not indicate. I have heard nothing on my problem report, positive or negative. I'd hate to uninstall 4.040b only to discover that 4.065b will not work for the series I am currently backing up.

Re: cannot open file error at start of burn

I have been experiencing this problem after build 4.0.1.2 which will still write dvd-9 format. In later versions i get the ifo error when attempting to burn a just loaded iso which is dvd-9 size. When it fails I cancel out and set the output size to dvd-5 and start the copy on dvd-5 media, it works fine. Curious? DVD-9 issue?

The failure de jour occcurred on "The Great Escape" ISBN 0-7928-6044-6

I did ANOTHER complete deinstall/deletion/clean registry/defrag routine and installed v5.0 beta. Re-copied the dvd, and same ifo error, DVD-5 works.

On a dvd>buffer>dvd the attempted write a Failed to Burn DVD error box pops up, etc.

Re: DVDFab 5.0.0.0 Beta Discussion Thread

Need insight please.

I've been using DVDfab platinum for about 9 months. Currently running 5.0 and experiencing the same problem after v4.0.1.2. When I import a dvd-9 to an iso and attempt to create a new dvd-9 I get the "cannot open file" ...iso window box (pre-write because the dvd+rdl is still good). After canceling with dvdfab still open I switch to dvd-5 format the process works to dvd-5 media. Why is the ifo file found in dvd-5 and not dvd-9?

De-installing (complete process) any version and re-installing v4.0.1.2 allows me to create a dvd-9 from the previously copied movie (DAMN, find that paper-tape reader!). I have not been able to find a simple/complex solution while only using dvdfab (reasonable expectation IMHO). I do not understand if this is a dvdfab or my system issue. Here is a link to dvdfab errors on my system. http://club.cdfreaks.com/f116/cannot...7/#post2044683
I'm running XP-PRO SP2, Intel core 2 Duo E6550, 4 GB, 3 DVD writers. What other info can I provide towards finding a solution?

Re: cannot open file error at start of burn

Dan
I will try to help you but the other thread is not the place--too many posts--and the discussion would be hard to follow. We can just continue it here.

It is not clear to me what mode you are using and what type of source. When you say
Quote:
When i import a dvd-9 to an iso..."
do you mean you are reading an original movie disc (DVD-9) through DVDFab (which mode?) to an ISO file? Could you do a screen capture of the error message and post it here.

Try some Verbatim, this media code might not even be in your burners firmware.

Re: cannot open file error at start of burn

I import with DVDfab from an original disk (THE SHINING ISBN 0-7907-6005-3) no problem in full disc mode to an iso file. Then open saved iso and attempt to save to dvd+rdl in full disc and in seconds a window box opens with the following:

Dvdfab
---------------------------
Cannot open file E:\Movies\ISO\save\THE SHINING.isoVTS_01_0.IFO.
---------------------------
OK

I then ok out and cancel. set mode to dvd-5 and record in full disc mode just fine.

Revert to v4.0.1.2 occasionally for a dvd-9 burning party.

Thanks for the response,

Dan

Dan
Try the Write Data mode for burning the ISO.

Re: cannot open file error at start of burn

Error 111 is a VSO burning engine error code that means "Device Busy". I have no idea why you are receiving that--don't think I've ever seen it posted, but it is at least a clue.
//EDIT// This may be a DVDFab error code that is not on the list.

Re: cannot open file error at start of burn

I will get some verbatium media and test it. The same media has no problem with v4.0.1.2.

So I guess the dvd-5 works/dvd-9 fails is a red herring for me? I don't have a clue where that might be controlled.

I have attached the output of nero tool with dvd-drive info.

In my original post there was also 116 err code. Can the v3 error codes be used?

This occurred on source-dvd to destination-dvd similar to the write-data.
