| Burning Problem I have an intermittent problem with burning DVDs - actually it's more a regular problem that intermittently doesn't occur. I'm using DVD Fab Platinum with which I back up the DVD to my hard drive without a problem. Then when I try to burn (via DVDFab Patinum) the movie to disc I get the problem. It just stops at a certain point - there's no error message, the program keeps running, but the percentage completed stays at at 4.9% or 60.37% or whatever it is and doesn't change. It would go on all night without changing if I left it. I'm using Windows XP Home The DVD player is a HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N I'm not sure what the burner is - it just happens under the DVDFab page, but I have a Nero Express 6.3.1.6 on my computer. I also have listed under Device Managers: "VSO Devices" and "pccoufin device", if that means anything. Any help would be appreciated. I'm going through a mountain of discs with a very small success rate at the moment. Thanks |

| Re: Burning Problem Hi eaziersed, We'll need more info from you in order to try to nail down a solution. Burner, burn speed, MID, etc., a burn log would help a great deal.

| Re: Burning Problem Hi maineman - thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how to find out what burner I have. Can you help me? It's an internal burner in my Leader laptop. I've attached some pages from the Nero Info Tool in case they are a help. Under Disc it just says: Type: DVD-R; Capacity: 00:00:01 (0 MB). All the other categories are marked n/a. The discs are TDK DVD-R 1-16x. I've attached a Disc page from a previous successful copy using the same brand and type of disc. I've also attached some recent logs. This is the most recent one - it's very short because the process locked up at only 4.95% completed. 4/06/2007 4:44:07 PM info ******************** Report session closed ********************* 4/06/2007 4:42:48 PM info Current Drive selected : 1:0:0 - HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N 0A31 [D] (Ide) 4/06/2007 4:42:48 PM info Using Patin-Couffin driver Version 1.37, Internal revision 37 - Async. | Re: Burning Problem Looks like tgidday is on top of this one. You need to check your DMA mode. As tgidday said, just tick on reset DMA button in Fab. Good idea to read through both links...there's some good info and troubleshooting. The reset in Fab may not do it. You have an LG burner. I don't know anything about Leader. Here are the 3 LG models I found: Videohelp Most likely, your burner differs only in firmware, but your best bet is to go through the manufacturer for firmware updates. This may be easier than straining your eyes and brain on the burn log. (See the attached image below) If you throw a disc in nero cd/dvd speed, just click on the Disc Info tab. It'll display your burner and firmware, eg., Benq 1655 and BCGB and below the MID (media code) Anyway, let us know your MID and DMA mode, should be UDMA 2 or close. Hope this helps.

| Re: Burning Problem That's fantastic - I reset the DMA button, and I managed to burn the disc I had failed to burn on the weekend. If this has fixed up the problem, I'm ecstatic. I should've asked you guys ages ago, instead of soldiering on and getting nowhere month after month. According to Nero CD-DVD speed, my MID is TTH02 and the firmware is 0A3. I checked my hard drives under Device Manager. On both channels the Transfer Mode was "DMA if available". On the Primary IDE Channel the transfer mode was Ultra DMA Mode 5, and on the Secondary IDE Channel the transfer mode was Ultra DMA Mode 2. maineman, you mentioned getting a firmware update. Is that something I should be doing? (Leader is just a local computer manufacturer.) Thanks again to both of you eaziersed |

| Re: Burning Problem Hi eaziersed, Hey that's great....congrats! As far as the firmware, well that all depends. Firmware updates can add capabililities such as DL burning, bitsetting, faster burn speeds, etc. and most often enhance blank media compatibility. They can also fix bugs. While it makes sense to stay current, I wouldn't blindly update everytime an update is available. I would update when you want or need a specific change. Here's where one of my favorite expressions comes in... If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Re: Leader, I looked 'em up. I just had never heard of them. Lots of things I never heard of... The point here is that if you misflash your burner and it's not official firmware, your warranty is void. Always best to go through your manufacturer unless your comfortable with flashing. You could end up with a very expensive paperweight... ![]()

| Re: Burning Problem Oh well, I wouldn't say I was comfortable with flashing, as this is the first time I've ever heard of it, and as you wisely say it ain't broke, and I'd quite likely break it. So I think I'll leave the firmware as it is for the moment. Thanks for your generous help - this is a great forum. |
