Burning issue or scratched DVD?

I have a DVD that my Kid scratched up with surface sratches (not very deep) just a good volume of them The disk seems to play, but when I try to copy if it craps out during the "analyzing". I get the Read error 400. Is this scratching or other type error. I hate to lay out the money to replace the DVD if there is a way to recover this disk.

I try to keep my originals away from the kids, but I geuss I failed this time.

Re: Burning issue or scratched DVD?

Error 400 is a general read (transcoding) error...doesn't tell us us much in terms of specifics.
Try cleaning the disc first...just windex, isopropyl alcohol etc. and a decent microfiber cloth.
Since you can see a lot of surface scratches, probably go to step #2.
Brasso polish and the same type of microfiber cloth.
Brasso works great as long as it's not gouged...

try DVD Decrypter and a PSL file if what Maineman recommended does not help.

Google with "DVD Decrypter PSL2"

DVDFab Decrypter (free version) could also be of help.

Re: Burning issue or scratched DVD?

Thanks guys for all the ideas, It turns out that there must have been too many tiny scratches. My friend at work has a DVD resurfacer (some kind iof crank kind) and it did a pretty good job of it. I was able to use platinum to burn it successfully. I think I might pick up one of those resurfacers.
