I just upgraded from DVDFAB 3.XXXX I never had any issue with it. Now the burn fails. I get an error 116. Here is what the various logs say. I see where is says "media removed" but I'm not touching it once I put in the black Vebatim data life Plus DVD-R disk.

Your log shows maxell not verbatim? The maxells are marginal at best. If someone said they are Verbatim they were wrong, try better media.

yeah maxell may most likely be the problem. will these disc burn fine with dvdfab 3180 or other writing programs? your error means 16 HWS_WRITINGFAILED // Writing failed (write error or process aborted). does your writer recognize the disc correctly with dvd identifier? can you post a screen shot? a cdfreaks member has recently posted a comment describing the failure of the vso burning engine with v4 which was not present with v3 of fab. lets wait and see this updated!?!

I actually tried the burn with Verbatim media and after a coaster, switched to MAXELL. Neither one worked. Under DVD Fab 3.xxx it you could immediately see the burn commence now NOTHING happens for several minutes (no drive light nothing) and then the drive spins and after a time you get the failed burn error 116.

Very frustrating! 3.2 hours in this so far. I so want my DVD FAB back.

i understand that v3 worked and now v4 will not write to blank dvd's, either maxell or verbatim. just to make sure your dvd drive was recognizing the blanks correctly and to check the media id of your verbatim, i wanted you to test this with dvd identifier. and you did, thanks. your verbatim disc are -r, 8x, which according to sony is compatible with your drive.

can you burn with other burning programs? rip to hard drive as an iso file and use imgburn to write the disc.

now i dont really know why your log indicates SPTI interface where mine is using async. access mode. the only setting is dvdfab for spti is a read setting not a write setting.

what other dvd backup programs do you have installed? maybe something is causing a conflict? has anything else changed on you system since the update to v4 from v3? please follow stormjumpers instructions on how to clean uninstall/reinstall dvdfab. the only thing i can think of right now is that the patin-couffin driver on you system is corrupted. as your dvd writer sees the disc and writing has started but fails.

looks like your drive is an older drive manufactured in 2004, there is newer firmware available either sony firmware,

or you can cross flash to LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1633S BSOY firmware, i have cross flashed my sony to lite-on.

so lets first try ripping to hard drive as iso and using imgburn.

NERO has been on my system but that was installed long before I ever heard of DVVDFAB so I doubt that this is the issue. I did just go into the DVD FAB option and changed the engine from the default to NERO but that burn failed as well. The only thing I possibly did was to update LIMEWIRE [4.1.4] between DVD FAB 3 and 4 but I don't see where LIMEWIRE has a burn engine.

I will try some of the other stuff or wait for Fengtao to answer my support request.

I've got about 7 hours in to this now and I'm getting nowhere. I just want my beloved DVDFAB back. It always worked so well for me and I recommended it to dozens of friends too.

Then delete Limewire and use a virus removal program. I can almost bet thats your problem.

I found the solution but I didn't touch Limewire as I believed it had nothing to do with it. I took Troy's advice and uninstalled DVD FAB 4.0.1.2. The "stormjumpers link" he provided in this thread gave complete details whereas a simply using ADD/REMOVE programs may not have gotten rid of all the artifacts like PREFETCH (hidden file). Anywat, about 10 hours later and my program is running again just fine. My guess is that the Puffin Couffin burn engine file was corrupted or conflict and the re-install fixed that.

Could this be the explanation for aother similar recent threads saying " v3 worked but v4 doesn't" . I've not yet has ANY problems with V4 but I do start to worry when others claim that their recent v4 burns are somehow corrupt ?
