backing up HD/BluRay questions

I am currently using Fab platinum and after backing up for past few years and using upscale set top player for burns,
I am concidering buying into HD or BluRay format.
questions:

1]which HD burner would you recommend?
2]Does Fab Platinum backup Main movie only or do you need to backup complete disk?

3]my next question was can you backup directly to your burner [1 click method] as I do now but just assumed you would need 2 HD burners.. right?

4]What is cost of blank HD disks and best brand..

thank you..

Hi Rago88
If you are going to use DVDFab Platinum to backup HD or BD disc then make sure you have version 4.0.6 Beta and also have ImgBurn installed and select ImgBurn as the burn engine, you will need to select HD or BD on the write tab within ImgBurn

Re: backing up HD/BluRay questions

1. LG GGW-H20L or Sony BWU-200S. LG is much cheaper and they also support reading HD DVD.

2. DVDFab HD used to be able to backup Blu-ray and HD DVD movies (Full disc only).

3. Yes if you have two Blu-ray burners but the risk is very high since you need to read and write in the same time at very high bandwidth for about 45 mins. Also there's not a lot of 25GB single layer movies, most of the movies are stored in 50GB dual layer disc.

4. Around $10-15 for Blu-ray disc 25GB single layer from TDK, Verbatim, Sony, Memorex, Ritek, Maxell etc brand. And around $20+ for 50GB dual layer disc. Recordable Blu-ray disc BD-RE or BD-RE DL) are more expensive.

So if you had the 25g disk you would have to compress to fit on it which sort of defeats the HD visual purpose.
is that about right?

It seems to me that unless you get a HD/BL movie from a friend or another source, It's almost not worth it financially to back up a Bl or Hd disk..
Someone pitch in and straighten me out on this please.

Re: backing up HD/BluRay questions

I will use my BD burner mostly to burn/back up via satellite recorded HDTV stuff.

Yes, otherwise just watch the DVD version with your upconverting player.

I don't think it's worth at all to backup a blu-ray movie unless the blank BD-R media is a lot cheaper.

ok..
so the concensus seems to be that even if you have a movie that is free, [borrowed, or Ren......,

the cost of a blank sort of makes it not worth it..
I've understand that BluRay media is smaller in size than HD so unless you compress a HD movie the cost of a HD blank is even more..
Jesus..
that means a movie must have 30-40 gigabytes of extras on it...

Why should that be true "BluRay media is smaller in size than HD" ???
