Re: Audio Sync issue

Whenever I see that audio is out of sync, I check the "advanced title settings" for the feature and set the chapter range to start at 2 instead of one. If the total duration of the movie doesn't change (compare the duration if the play time to the duration in the parenthesis), this sometimes fixes the sync problem. I can't say if this is a workaround for all sync issues where the audio has a constant offset but it worked for my copy of Rushmore.

As for the other type of sync issue where it worsens as the movie plays, I haven't figured out a workaround for that yet. But then again, I haven't tried the latest beta version either.

Re: Audio Sync issue

Hope its ok to tag onto this disscusion,

For x-mas I got SG1 seasons 1-10 and have been trying to convert them to my zune 80gb. I have the trial version of newest release and its not looking good on purchasing it. It may be encryption problems, but I'm not leaning there cause I have no problem backing up the disc to another( weird)..

I have tried the basic setting/tinkered settings for zune, tried generic conversion, all the same OoS issues, about 1 sec off

Since yesturday I have given up on Fab 4

I wanted to really use Fab cause of the quick cuts, quality is good, and it can covert a dvd to other formats, while also having the ability to backup dvd 2 dvd..

Thank for any help in advance,

DE

Re: Audio Sync issue

Over the past 2 weeks, I started converting my DVDs to AVI files using the Generic Conversion (xvid + source audio). I think I have successfully converted close to 100 titles flawlessly. Then I came across Chicken Little. That little chicken does not want to sync his voice. I would choke that chicken, but that's a whole different forum

I have tried copying the entire disk to HDD, but still got the same results. I will try copying the Main Movie only to HDD (as FishTunes stated) and see if that resolves my sync issue. The strangest part is that I already converted numerous Disney titles without any issues. I'll report back.

I am running the newest Beta and all my DVDs are Region 1.

Re: Audio Sync issue

Yeah I am trying to convert Pirates of the Caribbean 2 to iPod, and I also tried converting it to generic .avi as well, and in both cases I have audio syncing issues.

The whole reason I bought this program was because I was using AVS converter for my videos and it had audio syncing issues, and I thought this one wouldn't...I was wrong.

Re: Audio Sync issue

I’ve been watching this thread with interest. I have a Dell Axim X51v Pocket PC, Windows Mobile 5 OS with Nero Mobile installed. It will play ipod mp4 formatted files and just about anything else. I’ve tried all the movies in this thread in every possible configuration and the a/v sync are always spot on. This is true on the PC and the PDA. I wish I had an ipod so I could compare the same file because I’m about to come to the conclusion that it may have more to do with hardware (processing power) than software (transcoding/encoding). Let the flaming begin!

Re: Audio Sync issue

Sorry no flames here...
We actually could have used some last few days...below 0 F last few nights.

I've been doing Ipod conversions since last March. Like I just said on a similar thread: Audio Syncing Problem...
I have never experienced this and I've followed various workarounds and fixes. I've seen 1-pass work in instances where 2-pass fails, but this isn't consistent. I know Ting has tweaked the software and this has helped some users, but still, others are continually plagued by this av async issue.
I'm at a loss to explain it.

It was a little over 60° here in Dixie today, looking for near 70° tomorrow.

I can't duplicate the issue either. Do you have an ipod maineman?

Re: Audio Sync issue

As I previously stated, I have converted over 100 titles (done some this week - A Bug's Life, Brother Bear 1 & 2, and The Cat in the Hat) without any audio sync issues. The only title I have a problem with is Chicken Little. I have tried "movie only" to HD and then generic from the HD as others have stated to have luck with. No luck for me . I just put it back on the shelf and continued with other titles. I didn't try one pass. I'll have to give that a shot.

Re: Audio Sync issue

I''m having the same problem with the dvd to zune program. It starts off ok but then it's off for the rest of the video. Hopefully it will be picked son. On short videos it works fine but stuf over 45minutes it starts.

Re: Audio Sync issue

I tried Chicken Little with a single pass and it still doesn't work. It goes maybe 1/3 way through and the sync occurs. I did 2 other discs this morning and they are perfect. It's just something with Chicken Little

Yeah, go figure...
Dunno know if this will make any difference...I've never had an av async issue...but maybe choose just one audio track, like AC-3/5.1 and rip it to the hdd first in customize, dvd to dvd mode and then try to convert it to mpeg-4.
You can try just one or two chapters so you're not burning too much time.

Re: Audio Sync issue

After hakras’s post I went in the kids room and got Chicken Little, first time I’ve seen the a/v sync issue but it’s a bad one. Even playing on the PC, the longer it goes the worse it gets. I was wrong, jeez that’s painful! I guess some movies just won’t sync.

Re: Audio Sync issue

Did you try it with PathPlayer on or off, and was that straight from the original disc to iPod or rip to DVD folder first? I think most of the sync issues we see in the forum are related to the authoring on the original DVD or heat/hardware stress in the PC. Like my good friend Maineman, I have not had a sync problem in over a year.

Re: Audio Sync issue

I went from a DVD-5 backup to the HD. I used the default on 4.0.4.0 which I thought was enabled by default. I’ve never seen this before either on any movie. I’m not finished either.

Re: Audio Sync issue

I'm having AV sync issues converting High School Musical 2 to Zune format - the audio ends up ahead by ~750 ms. I tried the 4.0.4.0 beta and got the same results. Can anyone else verify this is another affected movie?

Re: Audio Sync issue

Well I’m giving up on Chicken Little and DVDFab, I’ve tried every combination I can think of and the a/v is still off and gets worse toward the end of the movie. I did pull a competitor’s software out of the toolbox and first try was a/v perfect start to finish, same disc, same method and angle choice.

Re: Audio Sync issue

I have now ripped over 200 movies using Generic (xvid + source audio). The following movies are giving me lip sync issues:

Cars
Chicken Little
Eight Below
High School Musical Encore Edition
Meet the Robinsons
Ratatouille

I had no troubles with other Disney movies. Such as 101 Dalmations, 102 Dalmation, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., The Lion King (all 3), Lilo & Stitch (all 3), Toy Story (1 & 2), Brother Bear (1 & 2), Bambi (1 & 2), Aladdin (all 3), and quite a few more.

I use the same settings each time. My current version is 4.0.5.5. I use a 2 pass encode directly from the source disc. For arguements sake, I have tried ripping the main movie to the hard disc and encoding. This was unsuccessful as well. There must be something in common with the discs that I stated above that are causing the issue. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Audio Sync issue

I've had many successes without sync issues, but also failures. I was using 4.0.3.2 and had about a 2 second sync issue with Ratatouille region 1....... both from the original disk and from the hdd as sources. I upgraded to the latest release of DVDFab Platinum, 4.0.5.5 and things got worse. Previously audio quality was good, now sometimes it breaks up while out of sync or it's non-existant. I tried the new beta....... same results. I've tried almost everything offered here with no improvements. Any other solutions?

Re: Audio Sync issue

I have a handful of movies (Cars, Beauty and the Beast, Charlotte's web, The Incredibles) that I've made in xvid+source, and none of them properly show the length of the movie, or create their thumbnail in Windows File Explorer, in Vista.

I've only chosen a single audio track, 5.1, and no subpicture.

This has been happening over several versions, including the latest beta 4.1.1.6

This problem is as I stated.

The reason I posted in this thread, was the commonality to the OP in the movie (Cars) and the format (xvid+source) chosen.

You should start your own thread that is about your problem rather then posting it in someone thread just because of commonality to a movie,...not to many members know much about audio sync issues so your issue may go un-noticed.
just my two cents

Re: Audio Sync issue

I wanted to pass along my experiences with audio sync issues in hopes it will help someone else. For the last month I have been fighting issues with Ratatoulille, Brother Bear, Toy Story2, and Incredibles. For about 30 movies I converted the "Main Movie" to the HDD. I then tried to use generic xvid/mp3 2000/128 kbs to convert to xvid. This has worked for about 25 movies, but I consistently received audio sync problems for the mentioned Disney movies. The audio was in sync at the beginning of the movie, but 1.5 seconds off by the end.

I incorrectly assumed that the problem was during the xvid encoding since I could play the movie from the iso without any issues.

I tried the following (on both Brother Bear and Incredibles):
- 4.1.2.0 / DVD -> HDD / Main Movie / DVD9 ==> h.264 + mp3 => audio sync issues
- 4.1.2.0 / DVD -> HDD / Main Movie / DVD9 ==> xvid/mp3 / + 2000/64 kbs => audio sync issues
- 4.1.2.0 / DVD -> HDD / Main Movie / DVD9 ==> xvid/audiocopy + 2000/64 kbs => audio sync issues
- 4.1.2.0 / DVD -> HDD / Main Movie / DVD9 ==> h.264/aac / 2000/64 kbs => audio sync issues

I also tried using mkv vs avi. I also tried 1 pass vs 2 pass. Then I repeated almost everything using 5.0.0.0 beta. I tried pointing to the iso directly from DVDFab. I also used daemon tools to mount the iso as f:/ and pointed DVDFab to that virtual dvd drive. In every case the audio sync issue occurred.

Thanks to the posts from FishTunes, I decided to try going straight from the original DVD to xvid. Whahoooo! No audio sync issues.

I have also experienced several movies that would hang when trying to go from a "Main Movie" iso to xvid. Hopefully, the direct conversion will fix that issue as well.
