I have a feeling that the issue is chipset related; I tried 2
different SE units; while the motherboards were different, they both used the same chipset.
even the great man knows what a dead animal looks like...
the reason why i ditched 98se was the fact that progs didnt work and no updates worked.
for all those people that want dvdfab to work with 98se systems then first upgrage the motherboard, chipsets, memory, etc spend money only to come to the conclusion that after all that time and effort its ..........THE O/S will it then sink in

Re: 5.0.1.5 & Win 98

When all is said and done bennybjorn, Fengtao needs to remove 98 from his list of supported windows versions, plain and simple. He only risks more unhappy customers if 98 continues to be listed on his site.

I couldn't agree more....

Fengtao, please, please, please remove Win 98 & ME from your website so that we do not have to put up with continual whingeing by users of a defunct operating system.

Re: 5.0.1.5 & Win 98

Sorry Jethro, in reading thru all these posts, I missed your hardware list.

Can I ask, what you refer to when you say "all patches"? Are you running
one of the unofficial SE update packs from the MSN forum? What chipset
and cpu is used in the HP and what model DVDburner?

Thanks for the info

There is also currently a problem to register the program in Linux. The web page states that it supports running under Wine. Should that enty also be removed? Seems to be an easy fix for program issues for you.

Re: 5.0.1.5 & Win 98

Thanks again Jethro for the info. The boards I tested version 4 on were based on VIA chipsets with AMD cpu's and LG burners. I know another Fab user that was running SE, and he had problems with ver 4 on his VIA based board.

Re: 5.0.1.5 & Win 98

Thanks Fengtao. Do you have a actual system running 98 or are you running
a VM with XP? If you need a system to test with, my offer to supply the hardware still stands. If you could provide a hardware list that works with
98 and Ver 5, that would be very helpful to all concerned.

Re: 5.0.1.5 & Win 98

Thanks Fengtao. I am one who still has faith in you! Others may no longer believe in your prowess as a programmer but I do. If the folks at Slysoft can handle it I would think you could to.

It's my understanding that next month Microsoft will no longer alow WinXP to come pre-installed on new computers. They are saying if you want A NEW computer your gonna get Vista and your just going to have to live with it.

I know that your gonna laugh in the face of Microsoft and continue to program for XP. I know that your not going to let others bully you into dropping "obsolete operating systems".

I thank you for your work on ALL OS's and any other platforms YOU wish to support.

Re: 5.0.1.5 & Win 98

Glad to see Fengtao finally post.I guess he still thinks he can help his customers with Windows 98.
andyc52;That's a nice offer you are making Fengtao even if he doesn't take you up on it.I too wonder if the testing is being done with a Windows 98 in a VM instead of a real computer.
~Jethro~ sorry you think you got sucked in.You did go to some trouble to test.I guess it suprised me that anyone would have a computer with any OS with no other software on it.More so an OS they think is obsolete.
Rusty-USA;All I can say is good post.I think you may have a hard time convincing people that when MS stops allowing XP to be pre-installed on new computers that is a sure sign MS considers it obsolete.I even doubt more that people using XP would like being told to upgrade because XP is now obsolete.
I guess I'm on both ends of the spectrum in that I have an older computer which was designed for Windows98se that runs very stable with it & a newer computer that came with pre-installed Vista.(I think for this post I will keep my opinion of Vista to myself).
bennybjorn;Heres something for your humor I have a working Commodore 64 do you think Fengtao can tell me how to get DVDFab to work on it?I wonder how many 5.25 floppys it takes to burn a movie too.
btw the reason I still have the Commodore 64 is that I enjoy the occasional playing of the old games.& not on an emulator.

No problem. I promise I won't start a third! I started the second thread for two reasons:

1. It was a different problem. With the Beta, the program was slow to start up, but it ran. With the final it wouldn't run at all.

2. I wanted to make sure Fengtao saw the thread as it had dropped way down. Turned out that wasn't an issue..... I didn't expect all the controversy & anger over a bug report!

I fix laptops, loaded 98se just for this thread on one of my test machines to see if it was a bug in the program or a conflict with some other software. The specs on my test machine are high enough to run vista ultimate on, so it still is not a perfect test for 98se and Fab. I think that some of the problem is the hardware that some are using. Much like how an older car still runs after many years just not with the same performance as when it was new.

I don't think it's a question of the age of the equipment, but what components are used.
The last time I tried Ver 4 with SE, I reformatted my HD and used my XP box:
Abit AV8 board with A64 4000 cpu and 512 meg of Corsair PC3200 ram; dropped down from 2 gig so SE would install without problems.
That platform would also run Vista; I still think it's a weird VIA issue. I have
yet to hear of anyone with a later VIA system board running Ver 4 without problems. Folks with Intel systems seem to have less issues
with ver 4.

Re: 5.0.1.5 & Win 98

Jethro, in my previous post I forgot to add thanks for taking the time
to load 98 and Fab on your HP test machine. At least now, we know that Fab will run with 98 given certain hardware. Any and all info collected
will be of help to Fentao as he tries to solve the problem.

Re: 5.0.1.5 & Win 98

I can open up previously saved DVD files on my hard disk without problems, but it's when the program accesses the reader and under the initial analyse it crashes. I've tried to have PathPlayer disabled and enabled, it doesn't make any difference.

You have stated this several times. Can I ask you a question?
Why do you open this thread when you don't have anything to contribute with, except what you already told us several times?

Your posting can only be considered as pure spamming in this thread.

@bennybjorn and Gregiboy: The topic of this thread is plainly about Win98 compatibility. If you have nothing useful to add to this topic, then please refrain from posting.
