2 episodes won't copy to 1 disc

Trying to back up a dvd with 2 one hour episodes and a few exras using Fab Gold going disc to disc. It seemed to be copying to the hard drive fine, but then came up with the "finished" screen with no option to put in a recordable disc.
I also tried to use that file and Nero Recoder 2 to burn, but got "unable to burn" message. Finally, Express burned a disc, which would not play in stand alone or PC player. The display showed it running through chapter numbers, but I couldn't get any menu or other screens.
Finally used Copy Seasonal disc and had to put each episode on a separate disc. Any ideas how to do this differently?
Thanks

If you have Nero Recode then you would probably also have Nero Vision. Using Nero Vision, you can import DVD titles into your Own DVD creation. Once the title is imported, you can select the individual parts that you want to keep and trash the rest. I've done this with episodes of SouthPark (just playing around mostly) but I haven't ever finished the burn process. I will attempt to do this and see what happens, then I'll try to get back to you.

Re: 2 episodes won't copy to 1 disc

Season discs have a hit and miss history with fab...at least when choosing "Copy season disc fully" within the gold menu. On the other hand, I've always been able to copy with full disc option or split to two discs if the file size exceeds 4.37 GB. Additionally, I've never had a failure with season discs when using express either. This is pretty bizarre.

What exactly are you trying to Bkup?

Re: 2 episodes won't copy to 1 disc

Ok, I kinda ran into the same problems that Shmoosma had. Here's the steps that I took. Doing it this way with Nero Recode, I eliminated the menus (they were causing the problems) and still had the extras available.

Using Nero Recode 2 and the DVD CSS + Region Free

This worked to recode and eliminate menus.

1. Open Nero Recode, Click on Recode Main Movie to DVD
2. Click on Import DVD. The Season Disk I am using is Star Trek Voyager Season 7
It gave me a message about more that one main movie, I told it Yes import all of them. This included the extras.
3. I could have recoded all four episodes to one 4.7g DVD with poor quality, so (using the Delete Key) I deleted 2 of the episodes, improving the quality of both episodes to 100%.
4. Click on Burn
5. Select the options that suit you. Using the advanced analysis option does take more time, but it makes sure that your stuff will fit in the space required (at the risk of quality loss).

When I tried to do the whole disk, I had serious problems trying to include the menus as each menu had a submenu and settings menus and the hierarchy was too much. After just going after the main movie, I could have kept the extras as additional titles. I would suppose you could use Nero Vision, importing the titles similarly as described below and creating a menu system for them that would be functional. Will check into that now. That appears to be working so far. It worked good, and after digging into my imported video folder found the episodes were converted to mpg files.

Options:

Let's say you wanted an episode from disk 1 and disk 7 burned to the same disk. Follow the steps above selecting the episode off disk 1. In step 5(above) burn it to a folder on your hard drive. Then start over with the steps above and disk 7, selecting the episode you want. Save this one to the hard drive also.
Then in Recode, Remake a DVD. Click on Import Titles. Add the titles from your hard drive.

Re: 2 episodes won't copy to 1 disc

x_rayrob28,

Yeah, good advice on a work-around. I haven't run into this much trouble yet, with any season discs...copied next generation without problems - split with gold, haven't tried voyager. I know some of the new release flicks are creating Bkup problems...as you said, seems to be menu driven and when copying whole disc. Thanks for the info.

Re: 2 episodes won't copy to 1 disc

Another possible solution is to copy the whole thing with DVDFab express and then burn the result to one disc. I used to use DVD Shrink to so the same thing. This works well iwth several episodes and you need the menu to select which episodes to watch.
