I recently received a Pioneer DVR-RT300. I wish to transfer some old family home movies from their VHS format onto DVD. I completed the first two successfully, however, I cannot do the third and final one. I do not see any apparent distinction between them, other than speed. In the last one we attempted to fit more footage on the VHS tape and used SLP. I tried matching the SLP speed on the DVD and even that did not solve the problem. The problem manefests itself as skipping. It seems to record a few seconds, and then goes blank. I can still hear the people in the video talking, but the image is blank. If I simply play the VHS, it works fine. But once I try to dub, the video image skips in and out. These VHS home movies are family treasures. They go back 20 years, and record my children, now grown, in their early years. I tried several types and brands of blank DVDs including the ones that came with the Pioneer recorder. The gift was given to me because the person knew of my desire to transfer these VHS tapes to DVD. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

The type format the third tape that has been recorded (speed , quality of recording and format) evidently is not compatible for dubbing. Try to play the tape in VCR section and record the out come directly from TV just like you are taping TV program, that might work.

You are right I could not do it my self either you need a device called "Video Enhancer" or "Video Stabilizer' to be connected between your VCR and DVD Recorder to filter out the protection signal. I bouhgt one yesterday and installed it and works perfect, copied my VHS to DVD format.
