Disabling TV GUIDE w/DVR-533H-S

I am confused over information that has been posted about disabling the TV GUIDE function on Pioneer's DVR-533H-S.

I have a satellite system and realize that TV GUIDE will not work with it. I have read two different set of instructions on how to stop this function.

On another site, a user mentions in his review of the 533 that in order to use satellite, you "select CABLE and let the built-in tuner go through the channels, just like a VCR. When the screen appears asking you if you want to configure TV Guide, select the option NEVER REMIND ME AGAIN....after that it will never be an issue. This unit acts just like a VCR."

Now this sounds like a lot less lengthy procedure than the one I read called the Eureka Method, noted on the AVS Forum, which follows:

To Turn Off EPG Forever with Full Timer Record Available.

1. Reset the recorder
2. Perform Nav Setup
3. When TVG setup screen Appears press HomeMenu
4. Press Timer Rec
5. When TVG setup Screen Appears press Enter
6. Choose "Canada"
7. Set Postal Code to A 0(Zero) A 0(Zero) A 0(Zero)
8. Choose Cable
9. Choose No Cable Box
10. Confirm Settings OK
11. EPG will disappear, never to be seen again!
12. Use Timer Record with RF/L1/L

Are these two procedures actually providing the same results, or are they somewhat different in Timer Control results? Would the first, simpler set-up plan provide satisfactory results?
