Changing menu picture

Hi, I have merged 2 dvds together, was a flipper and doing so it created a third menu where i can select disc 1 or disc 2 upon startup. Question is how can i change this to a different picture and possibly the text style and size? Just want to make it consistent to the dvd content.

Cheers

Re: Changing menu picture

Here is the easiest way to customize start-up menu:
1. Download start-up menu backgrounds without any text here: http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremakepro/download.php
2. Open bitmap you need (choose PAL/NTSC and amount of buttons) in any bitmap editor and edit it the way you like (add custom text, etc);
3. Download muxman (http://www.mpucoder.com) and author a dummy DVD with edited bitmap
4. Import this dummy DVD into DvdReMake Pro;
5. Open your original menu in preview, right click and "replace with still" (DvdReMake Pro 3.1+ is required);
6. Select block with your edited bitmap and hit "OK"
7. Done. "Test export" to check if it works like you want.

Here is step 3 (author a dummy DVD) in more details:
1. Download Muxman ver.14g (the "free" one) from the great MPUcoder site or elsewhere.
2. Start Muxman.
3. Click on the ... box in the Video window at top of Muxman screen.
4. Locate and Select your edited background bitmap.
5. Select Close on the Import file list panel.
6. Select your dummy DVD Destination folder at bottom of Muxman screen.
7. Press Start to create your dummy DVD.

Otherwise you will need to author new menu with some application and use procedure outlined here to replace old menu with new one.

Re: Changing menu picture

I've done this a couple of times, but some DVDs seem to display a "chopped" menu. I have a few that are cut off from the left so several characters of the menu titles are missing. Any ideas how to avoid this? Thanx.

I followed your steps exactly as outlined above, but when I load the dummy DVD in DVDRemake Pro, I don't see the edited frame at all.
I right-click the original menu but in the "Select Frame" window I do see the dummy dvd in the list but there is no picture shown at the right (blank).
Can anyone help me?

Re: Changing menu picture

Save your edited bitmap as 24-bit bmp, not 32-bit. You will see file size should be less than before. Then try muxman again.

Re: Changing menu picture

I saved the original menu as a BMP-file as stated in the userguide and after you've explained to me to save the file as a 24bit-type, I found out this saved file was a 8bit file.
I use Adobe Photoshop but I don't manage to save a 24bit BMP-file.

Can you help me out once again.

Re: Changing menu picture

Try to export frame within DRMP again. It'll be in 32-bit bmp. Edit in Photoshop (I have v8), then save as a different file name. You'll be prompted for BMP options, choose OS/2 file format, it will automatically select 24-bit as Depth. Then continue with step 3.

It worked. Thank you very much.

Re: Changing menu picture

After following all the instructions, I am not getting the new background in the dummy file.

I already checked that my image is a 24-bit 720x480 bitmap (for NTSC) and after following the instructions, I open the dummy DVD files and only get black images.

I am using v. 14g of Muxman, which did not report any problem after finishing its process.

Any ideas?
Is thereanother proram that I can try?

Re: Changing menu picture

Can you see the image when playing the vob, generated by MuxMan? Use DGIndex to view it. If it's all black, you're doing something wrong. You can try to repeat the process again. Another way to extract the frame is using BMP function in VobBlanker, it'll be in 24-bit.

What version Remake are you using?
