Adding a new chapter to old DVD?

I have an old Family DVD that I created a few years back. I no longer have the original footage that went into making that disk. I was going to import the original program into my video editing software so that I could add the additional footage to it. Doing this would loose the original DVD menus & might involve the DVD"s MPEG2 files being re compressed.

I was wondering if it's possible to insert a new additional chapter into this DVD using DVDReMake. I know that I could go the route of putting it on the disk as a second DVD but I wished to avoid having that dreadful start up screen where you choose from which disk to play. If this can be done how is it achieved?

Re: Adding a new chapter to old DVD?

With the source as project1, and the additional footage (must be in DVD format) as project2, copy the project2's PGC in PGC view, then switch over to project1, go to PGC view and append copied PGC. Then you can add additional chapter marks to appended programs in the Titles pane. Both the source PGC and the copied PGC must have the same video/audio/sub attributes to use this method. In other words, you don't mix 4:3 with 16:9, AC3 2.0 with AC3 5.1 in the same track, etc.

Re: Adding a new chapter to old DVD?

Once I have added the new file does that old menu get another button on it & if so do I have to add one? Do I get any choice as to what page any new button resides?

When you say that the second DVD must be in DVD format am I correct in assuming what your looking for is a Video_TS file?

You have to modify the menu with some authoring software then replace it back with DVDRMP. Similar topic: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f112/adding...s-menu-222662/

As long as it imports you're fine.

Re: Adding a new chapter to old DVD?

I'm back from out of town & have finally gotten around to looking at adding this extra chapter problem again. I already have the old DVD saved as project one. I have authored a second DVD using Sony's DVD Architect 3 & it all works OK. I have looked at the suggestions in this thread but I'm still confused.

I just don't know enough about PGC view & dding a button & then connecting the button the the additional new files that I have created. I have even added a button to the screen but the problem now arises as to exactly what I have to attach to this button & just how this is done. I have all of the different files that appear for the new DVD in a folder. Are any of these files use what I'm supposed to use & if so which one? Or am I completely on the wrong track? I have read the links mentioned in this thread but they didn't help.

Re: Adding a new chapter to old DVD?

Sorry for the delay, I was out of town as well.

The PGC view is the window on the right when you click on the PGC in the DVD tree. This is explained in the manual (Reference -> PGC View). I assume you already appended he second DVD to the first DVD as mentioned in post #2.

Here's another thread with step-by-step guide on customizing the menu and replacing it in DVDRMP. You don't have to follow exactly, as some of the steps do not apply to you. As for the button command for the newly added button, just follow the same format as the other existing buttons.

Run the debugger to test if everything's working OK. Well, in the debugger, you can't see the button highlight, you can only test it with software player.
