unable to play back I am running 1 click dvd 4.2.9.2, and Anydvd 6.0.1.1, burning with Sony dvd+-RW DW-Q58A on an inspirion 9300. The first movie i burned worked great. I have tried about 8 others since and cannot get them to play on anything. It goes through the whole process without any errors or messages, but wont playback. I check the properties of the dvd and it shows 0 space used, and 0 space free. If anyone can help that would be great.

Re: unable to play back It is always important to set Booktype to DVD-ROM when burning. My drive does this automatically without any input by the user. However many drives that support booktype setting need input by the user. This can help resolve compatibility issues with standalones and such. If this is not the problem then maybe something is wrong with your drive. Maybe bunk media? Hard to say. If you tilt your DVD media upside-down in the light you can tell if the laser has burned or tried to burn information onto the disc.

Re: unable to play back ok, i've updated to the newest version of 1 click 4.2.9.11. I have checked for driver updates for my burner and found none. It is definitely burning something in to the disc because I can see the discoloration and it shows 0 bytes free. But like I said It wont play back on my computer, or my sony dvd player, or my yamaha dvd player. So I think it is just not burning correctly. I was able to burn one more dvd after about 10 failed tries last night, and I even tried to burn the same dvd again to no avail. I dont know how to change the booktype or if is even posible on this drive. I am however using sony dvd+r discs, If that matters or not I dont know. At this point I'm thinking of trying dvd shrink and nero, but i dont want to spend the money and have the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: unable to play back I'm definately not the most intelligent "Techie" on this board but I do try to read up and understand the best I can. Do you have any expierience in using 1click before aquiring your new sony drive? Check reviews on your specific drive to look for Booktype compatibility. Try some new media of a different brand name. Verbatim is considered by many to be the gold standard. If this continues maybe someone else on this board can be of further assistance. I'd check the warrenty on your drive just in case the hardware is faulty. I use 1click 4.2.9.1 and it works every time. Hope you get things going soon. "This too will pass"

With this Drive ( Sony dvd+-RW DW-Q58A ) You'll have to update your firmware only from here ( if available ) http://support.dell.com/support/down...=us&l=en&s=gen Go to > My Computer > Right click on your DW-Q58A drive > Properties Do you have a "DLA" tab ? Do you have a 'Recording' tab ? "DLA" tab = Disable = "DLA" ( Drive Letter Access ) 'Recording' tab = Disable "Desktop CD Recording" You mention Nero .. Do you have the "InCD" portion of Nero installed ? If so , you must REMOVE = "InCD" ( easiest , just to completely un install Nero , then re install Nero - using a 'Custom' install > De selecting "InCD" from the program list ) Quote:
http://www.lgsoftwareinnovations.com/faq.asp#conflicts You could also post a session or two from your > F7 log Open 1Click >> F7 = CopytoDVD log >> Copy and paste in reply Look for "session started / session closed" to divide sessions . Let me know if any other software is present on your computer - found in the 1Click FAQ listing - as this does sound familiar to the conflicts I've presented , ![]()

into your drive tray , and let AnyDVD recognize it . Look at the 'status report' ( show information ) If it reads DVD-ROM , then your burner is already doing this . I couldn't find info on bit-setting your drive ( still looking ) here's an example : Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 6.0.1.1) Drive (Hardware) Region: 1 Media is a Data DVD. Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 1 Total size: 2253424 sectors (4401 MBytes) Video DVD (or CD) label: MUNICH_Cprx Media is not CSS protected. Video Standard: NTSC Media is region free. RCE protection not found. DVD structure appears to be correct. Structural copy protection not found. Changed firstplay: Jump directly to TitleMenu! Autorun not found on Video DVD. Bad sector protection not found. Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1! ![]()

You're using great media ..... that's not the problem . For some reason , you're burning REALLY slow for a 8X burn , For now - Try reducing your burn speed to 4x ( or then maybe 6x ) and see how that goes . Open 1Click >> F9 = CopytoDVD settings > 'Writing Devices' tab Set max speed for DVD media @ 4x Something is slowing you down , When's the last time you Defragged your HDD ? Do you have a lot of 'applications' running while your burning ? Have you ever tried ENDitALL ? ![]() |

You could try to use the Nero CD/DVD Speed book-type change utility ( it's free ) IF you burner is supported and if your firmware allows . ( You could also ask Dell Support about 'book-typing' ) ******************************** ENDitALL We often recommend using a program called EndItAll , prior to our burns. This is a free program that stops all the unnecessary, non essential junk that runs in the background, and protects essential programs that can not be terminated (like Explorer and SysTray). In addition, you can select which programs to "Protect", so as not to terminate them. You can protect "AnyDVD/DVD43", so when you "EndItAll", it won't terminate the decrypter. Here is a link to " Enditall 2 " but please note this is a powerful tool . You would be better reading about it first , before you run it . Read about it Download here At first , I'll admit, this program did intimidate me So I read , then set a restore point. First selected "close all" , noting no problems , I'll select "close all" again , a few more will close Select 'refresh list' , and look at the remaining programs not closed by the "close all" function . Now , one by one , I'll 'kill' the remaining programs , noting any conflicts with each closure , ( none for me ) so to decide if they should be protected . I would never recommend initiating the "Kill All" sequence . Be Careful - not afraid- it automatically protects Windows You'll be surprised to see what's running , hidden in the background This will totally eliminate the possibility of another program interfering with the process . ![]() ( EnditAll is also very effective when running Registry Repair , De-frag and the Installation / Removal of programs ) There is also a screen-saver and power management block 'feature' on the EnditAll tool-bar . Just having EnditAll open with these "block" features enabled will prevent the activation of your screen-saver and any power management shut-downs , so you don't have to keep changing your settings . When finished , close EnditAll . Simply Restart your computer , and all returns to normal It's a great little program , I do use this before all of my burns . ![]()

Re: unable to play back using nero cd/dvd speed I was able to change the booktype to dvd-rom, and after slowing the speed down to 4x, my next burn worked. I will try more tomorrow, play with the speed and maybe enditall also. Thanks for your help. Should I buy dvd-r media next time?

My back-ups have played in anything I have ever tried . No , using DVD+Rs , would be my recommendation , ..... If at all possible . ( you could try a few DVD-Rs though ) I found that DVD+Rs are just a little more forgiving ![]()
