Suddenly, Can't Burn Faster Than 4X

All along I have been burning at 8X without problems of any kind. Now, my last two burns have been at 4X only. To my knowledge, nothing has changed. I'm using the same media, (Memorex DVD-R 8X), the same burner, (Plextor PX-712A), and the same software, ( 1Click DVD Copy, and DVD 43). The Plextor has the latest firmware, and the software are both the latest versions. This same media has always burned at 8X. So, I ask you, why the sudden drop off to 4X?
And if it matters, I'm running XP Pro SP2, P4 3.0MHz, and 2048MB RAM.
Thank you!

Re: Suddenly, Can't Burn Faster Than 4X

Hmmm. To be able to know whats going on, I'd need to see the C2CD.log file and compare the faster burns to the slower burns.

Re: Suddenly, Can't Burn Faster Than 4X

Uncheck SAO First in the CopytoDVD settings. and then check your DMA mode. Make sure it is DMA 2.

I'd agree with a media change. Is it possible you were using the same brand, but bought a new spindle and then noticed the speed change?

Re: Suddenly, Can't Burn Faster Than 4X

It seems odd that the available speeds changed from 8,6,4,2 to 4,2 as did the available sectors from 2298496 to 2297888. Looks as though it's a totally different media.

If you try different media and it doesn't work, check your UDMA settings, make sure you are not in PIO mode.
