Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

Very nice move Womble This one definitely should be a sticky. I myself really don’t need this guide, but I’m absolute sure that a lot of newbee’s/inexperienced users will gain a lot of knowledge from your guide. I thank you on their behalf.

Just for the record. Am I right in the assumption that any version of EAC after pb3, can’t handle copy protected cd’s on it’s own.?

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

yeah great guide
using hydrogen forums normally...but one day we will come close...lol

what lame version you use? i use myself 3.90.2.

I am still not sure about accurate rip though.... it only compares.

For lame setting i would suggest --alt -preset extreme
which gives you varialbe bitrate with an average of 192kb
Many people suggest abr now..instead of vbr .

Currently I am using the latest stable release which is 3.96. I read through the changelog one day and it seemed a good idea to keep on using the lastest version.

AccurateRip is a good idea. Granted it does only compare but that is all it needs to do. If your CRC ouput matches the three others in the database then you should be happy that you have a perfect copy.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

@ Womble
Why reinvent the wheel?
SatCP (Coaster Factory) have an excellent tutorial about this and explains all settings more careful than your guide.
http://come.to/satcp

You also missed a couple of interesting/useful settings using the rather stupid wizard...

Afaik AccurateRip is kinda quirky and I'm still wondering about the other somewhat questionable guide I sent a PM about.

@ damiandimitri / all
In case you didn't know, --alt-preset is deprecated, use --preset instead unless you're using a very old build of LAME (like damiandimitri's) for some reason.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

Hi Diizzy,
We want to discuss this here a bit. As Womble said this wizard is pretty good, but, some with more experience or even a better sense of hearing may customise. As you can see we are already learning a thing or two. We would like to hear what people like yourself have come to discover on their own. Thanks for your tip and about preset.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

I used my first guide for Hydrogen audio as a guide...(i guess that is why they call it guide...lol)..they are not golden rules. Depending on what hardware you have and how much time..you can do a lott more with EAC.

SO if you succeeded in following in this nice guide...go mess around with it....

@Dizzy

I use the old lame because it is still recommended. This was the first Lame which has all the --alt - presets tested. Other compiles were modded, but not fully tested. I think they just started to test the new version. But if i want an exact copy for now...i stick wiht my old "tested" lame.

In my previous post i talked about ABR instead of using VBR; this should be ABR combined with joint stereo.

@Womble,

Nice move, tremendous effort, but... don't you think the timing is a bit wrong ?
So I second DiiZzY's opinion on :

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

I don't think it is re-inventing the wheel completely.

We still get new people on here, that never heard of EAC before or find the settings to hard.

But ..yes i agree...for the people who live here...it is propably nothign new.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

@Dizzy
We had an Audio Copying Forum with no EAC guide in it. That was one of the main reason to do it. As damiandimitri says it's a guide for newbies in this field to follow it allows them to run through getting a MP3 made hopefully easily. Once they know the basics then they can mode on and play around with the rest of the options in there.

@BoSkin
You seem to be giving with one hand and taking away with the other. Out of intrest what would be a good time?

@Rest
Cheers all.

Reinventing the wheel is impossible, modifying it - yes.

1. I did express my own POV, which I think I did honestly and friendly,
underlining the important (again, IMO) part of it.
Your prompt reaction on my "other hand" is understandable - been there, seen that.
Sorry for being broke and not giving you a bouquet. The hidden forum's gonna compensate it all.

2. A couple of years back.

I welcome your POV and that is why I asked. Please don't take it any other way. Only though learning can we improve ourselfs.

Better late than never someone has probably said at one time.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

I dont know why so many of you are unsure about accuraterip. It is a VERY nice tool. It sets the correct read offsets and then it compares your rips with others. Say you have 6/8 songs in a rip that match the AR database and 2 that dont, well no matter what EAC says, if the accurate confidence is eaqual/greater then 2 then there was probably an error in your rip. The more the database is populated the more valuable accuraterip will become. And now accuraterip results can be submitted from within EAC, and soon you will be able to access the AR database via the web w/o downloading the whole thing.

Also, forget MP3, if you are ripping you really should look into FLAC. Disk space is cheap and there is NO quality loss with FLAC. FLAC allows for PERFECT backups of your music (just be sure to use EAC in secure mode with AccurateRip)

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

Accurate rip....doesn't actually do what is name promisses. IF you have a cheaper drive which is not good at ripping...you can try 1000 times and you will still have no result comparable with the data base.
When i first heard about it...i thought it was keeping something like a hash file from whole of the cd (like emule does) and then re-rip the parts that are bad. But this one just compares the results, and if it is not ok...you must keep trying till it is good.
Besides that...you can discuss what is "good"

You i tried different kind of compression and lossles audio thingies. Ape, flac, ogg...all nice. But because mp3 is the most popular ...most people use it. Not to forget most stand-alone players use mp3.
But yes..it is great

There is a proposal on the AR site to do just that:
http://www.audiosense.org/forum/showthread.php?t=157

I think it works fine as is but if you like it go over there and add your support. It could always be made better.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

Great guide, thanks. One quick question... which version of EAC is best for using on DRM protected CDs? Macrovision's latrest "uncopyable" protection to be exact. I heard that prebeta 3 has TOC manipulation tools that later versions don't have any more. Thanks.

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

I have just spent the last 5 hours trying to get AccurateRip to work with EAC....eith out success???

I really dont know what i am doing wrong.... i have followed teh guide step by step about 100 times now..the .dll is in the folder and the database is installed.

I have at least 3 discs that are on the list of "key" cds
Aqua - Aqarium
Celine Dion - Lets talk about love
ABBA Gold

When i have opened EAC up and insert the disc nothing with AccurateRip pops up asking to config my drive???

It locates the cddb data and succesfully rips the tracks...when i go submit AccurateRip results it says there is 0 discs and 0 tracks???

Im so baffled, pissed off, and angry i really feel line smashing something so badly im that angry.

Any help any steps? can some one explainw hat is ment by config drive with AccurateRip...where, how?

ARRGG

Thanks

Re: Exact Audio Copy Guide

Coolmatt,

First off Hi.

Next the guide does work and I have the pictures to prove it. Also I have just gone through the guide again and installed it and it workd fine. This was even on a different computer.

Just to make sure, have you,
Installed and configured EAC
Installed AccurateRip Function
Copied the correct dll file to the correct folder
Installed AccurateRip Database

I then tried several CD's. Some from the list and some that were not on the list. The following popup window came up each time a correct CD was inserted.

I hadn't even reset my computer and it worked.

Could this statment
Quote:
Bear in mind that many of the discs listed have different pressings, for different countries and so may not be the same country to county.
have any effect on what is happening to you?

AccurteRip is not configurable inside of EAC. It pops up when discs are inserted. I take it you have tried ripping a CD without AccurateRip to make sure things are setup correctly.

Other than that I am just not sure. What I have written is correct and has worked for me on two seperate computers.
