quality differences between ratDVDs I rip and some I download, I need some help?!?!?!

I have been ripping my own DVD collection to ratDVDs with ok results, and was happy and content until I watched a ratDVD I stole via peer2peer file sharing. IT LOOKED FANTASTIC!!!! like a regualr DVD. Smooth and high quality, with the same bitrate settings I use (Ive been using 110 for most stuff).

what do I need to do to make my ratDVDs look like my internet friends? his look smooth and nice, mine look blockish.

I saw the item in FAQ about changing my playing settings, I did that, and I even re-ripped to see if it had to be selected during the ratting process.

anyway, anyone who is an expert, please contact me. I will have a huge amount of movies to share when I am %100 comfortable with the format. (I also just got a 1.6TB settup for sharing, I am serious about this)

feel free to email me about anything related to movies or ratDVD or even MP3s (whith whom I am still very much in love, even if radDVDs have been trying to steal my hart away).

High bitrate: that's the answere. Also VBR helps.

by high bitrate, you mean sliding it to 120? becuase my ratDVDs at 120 don't look as good as the movie I downloaded which is at 110. I'll look at other settings, but I really want this to work. I just got a 1.6TB network storage setup and I really want to get started on my movies!

please keep the replies coming!

I use variable bit rate (VBR) and set the menu and movie to 1500 Kbps and the extras to 1024. That's usually enough to get good quality movies ;-)

Search for Garden State multiple languages ratdvd and once you've downloaded it you'll see that it has very good quality. Although it'll take long. "Someone" just put it right now to share in emule so he's the only person that has it right now. He put it in "PowerShare Launch" but taking into consideration that it's 2.68 GB and that he only has 150 Kbps of upload... it'll take quite a long time :-P

Be sure all of you to have webcaché activated and well configured. It'll help making things go faster. :-)

hi,
how do you set the program to VBR? in version 0.78 I see only costant quality and costant medium bitrate. is this last you refer?
final quality is much better with medium bitrate then with medium quality?
I looked at the difference in size for a short making-of and found it's about 1/3 of total between quality105 and 1024Kbs.
with some serious hard to render movies how it does in visual performance? I can't try to download them with my dial-up...
