| Re: Samsung or lg ? Go Samsung SH-183L, so far I like it a lot. Burns well and scans well too. I don't know too much about the LG H62N though.

| Re: Samsung or lg ? I have heard amazing things about the new Samsung 203 SATA drive. Its not available in the USA yet. If I had to buy a new drive now, I would buy an LGH42N 18X drive, its cheap and very good. I have one and am very pleased with it but its an IDE drive. ![]()

What I'm saying is that the LG is currently marginally better than the Samsung SH-S183. But with the next f/w update the Sammie might have the edge over the LG. Again currently in my experience the Samsung SH-S203B is the best around. As for the latest three drives you list. I'd go with the LG (but without LS). LS is limited /slow. With the end result still lagging behing the printed disc. Also this LS will shorten the life of a DVDRW & the LS discs themselves don't appear to keep the initial quality of the 'label' for that long.( Probably long enough for most uses. But not a long term ideal. Thank goodness for sharpies. )

| Re: Samsung or lg ? When you say that lightscribe is slow are you speaking for all drive in general or only the Lg 62L. Also isn't the Samsung SH-183L have a lot problem ? Im buying 2 drives so if the 203b is not available maybe i should buy a 183L and a h62L ? |

I would get a LG & if the 203 isn't available. Get a Pioneer DVR-212. Why as there's no guarantee that a f/w update will sort out the 183. So if you can't wait for the 203 & want guarantees (as far as is possible) as to reliable burns, then get a Pioneer. The exception is if you think you might want to scan at some point. Yhen Lite-On LH-20A1S.

| Re: Samsung or lg ? The store im buying the drive from have : DVD+/-RW ASUS DRW-1814BL DL LS 18/18/8 DVD+/-RW LG GSAH62L SATA DL LS 18/18 DVD+/-RW SAMSUNG SH-S183L SATA LS 18/18 Lite-On LH-20A1S Il ask for the samsung 203 when doing the system wednesday so il see if they can get 2 but would it be better to have 1 203 and another 1 from the 4 above or just get 2 203 ? If they don't have the 203 what should i get ? Is the Lite-On LH-20A1S is a sata drive and does it have lightscribe ? |

| Re: Samsung or lg ? So the choice would be : 1-Samsung SH-S203B 2-LG GSAH62L 3-ASUS DRW-1814BL ? If i understand even though the samsung 203 is better than the lg or asus i should still have 1 of each instead buying 2 same drives since it would give me more flexibility ? |

| Re: Samsung or lg ? Hi Yes having two different drives should in theory be better. One may excel with DL & CDr, while the other favouring SL media. I use my Lite-On mainly for scanning (if I appear to be having a problem with new media this can be helpfull). My BenQ for ripping (as it is speedpatched using ala42s MCSE). Pioneer for DL media. Plextor for CDr. Samsung for a bit of anything & everything. ![]() |

| Re: Samsung or lg ? thanks , but any of those drive mentioned aren't carried at the store so what should i take so the choice i have are 1-Samsung SH-S183L 2-LG GSAH62L 3-ASUS DRW-1814BL 4- Il ask about the Samsung SH-S203B but it would surprise me that they can get any. so if the SH-S203B is not available what drives shoud i take. |

| Re: Samsung or lg ? My experience with LG is limited. I've got an LG and a Samsung. I clearly prefer my Samsung. It has given me better burns across all types of media. I have been very disappointed with DL burns on my LG with Ritek D01 media at 4x or even 2.4x. The result is high error/failure rates and poor playback on stand-alone players. I would assume that Verbatim DL media may give a better result. However cost has kept these out reach for me. I seem to always find some closeout deal on Ritek D01 rebranded media. I don't do much with DL anyway. If I need to I use my 1693s as it provides great burns on this media. I just thought I'd add my input. However I do realize my drives are rather old at this point and do not reflect a "current" drive. Regards, John

![]() LG drives with Renesas chipset are much better. I would prefer a LG GH20N over a Samsung SH-S203. Michael

| Re: Samsung or lg ? Michael, Thank for the info regarding chipset. I was not aware of this. I had come across different thread talking about Panasonic this and Renasis that. I never bothered to explore the differences and which was used where. At least now I have an explanation. That LG drive is in my gaming Console and gets little to no use. I think that is where it will stay. Regards, John
