PIONEER DVR-112D vs. BenQ DW1640??

I mostly use a writer for backing up DVD movies. I recently purchased a LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM A Model LH-20A1S. It failed with "DEVICE IO ERROR" on about 6 out of 12 DVD+R's. I have tried Verbatim, Memorex, and TDK - it bombs out 50% of the time.

Now I must buy a new DVD burner and get the most reliable writer that will not waste blank DVR's. After using the Lite-On, I now have plenty of coasters and do not need anymore.

PIONEER DVR-112D & BenQ DW1640 are on the top of my list.

Can I have some recommendations/opinions. I am hoping to hear from members that have used either of these 3 burners I have mentioned.

Would appreciate any helpful information!!

Pioneer 112 is an actual drive, the Benq is not produced anymore, I believe.

Re: PIONEER DVR-112D vs. BenQ DW1640??

After reading all reviews, I decided the Pioneer 111D is best overall for DVD backup IMO. I've not seen a Pioneer 112D review, but posts I've seen seem to indicate it's quite similar to the 111D. I suggest to get the Benq if you can find it or LiteOn only if scanning is important, but get the Pioneer if DVD burn quality is most important. I like my first 111D so well that I bought another just before NewEgg stopped selling it.

Both the Pio and the BenQ are burners and not actually read-only drives.

The Pioneer is definitely more current and may have better support for some newer media such as 8x DVD-R DL but the BenQ would be more fun. It has more toys to play with, such as SolidBurn

With the 3 Pioneer 1810 aka 112D Nov 2006 samples i've had from Best Buy i'd take the BenQ 1640 any day but some people have had good luck with theirs.
