I/O Magic IDVD16DDBE external DVD write

New to DVD writers!!

Please let me know how to find the manufacturer of a DVD writer.

I bought "I/O Magic IDVD16DDBE external DVD writer" from Circuit City today.
I read various threads in this forum saying BenQ are good and BTC are bad.
Want to see what kinda writer I got.

Thanks for your help.

From my research, that indicates that your drive was manufactured by BTC.

Re: I/O Magic IDVD16DDBE external DVD write

I was looking at the same drive you bought while I was at Staples today. Ultimately, though, I wanted a BenQ, so I opted for the external Pacific Digital for a bit more money. I learned earlier from their tech support guys that, if you look down near the PacDig UPC symbol, you would see a Rev # and that #4 was the BenQ 1620 OEM. So, I bought that instead and it came with a firmware that started with a 'G' but flashed easily to a BenQ 1620 for me.

Best of luck.

FWIW, the Pacific Digital model # is U-30274, and I'm doing a few burn tests as I type.
