help required in selecting a DVD+-RW

i purchased a dell latitude d520 laptop, which has a NEC 6650A DVD+-RW in it.
i purchased DVD-R media (of moser baer brand) and was unable to burn anything on them, with both sonic and nero.

I used my friends laptop (compaq with TSSTcorp TS-L532M DVD +- RW) and the DVD-R burnt without any problems.

further dell has a few DVD+-RW, from which i may choose one for myself, so that i dont face this problem, i am concerned with the compatibility issue.

Suggest me which one of the following is the best in terms of performance and compatibility and also is the latest in tech:

1)Sony NEC Optiarc ND-3570A 16X DVD±R/RW

2)NEC ND-3650A 16X DVD±R/RW

3)NEC ND-6500A 8X DVD /-RW

4)Philips SDVD8820 Slim DVD±RW

5)TSST TS-L532B DVD+/-RW

6)TSST TS-L632D DVD+/-RW

Regards

Re: help required in selecting a DVD+-RW

The 6650 is a good laptop drive. I would suggest some better media.

Re: help required in selecting a DVD+-RW

As far as I know they will all burn dual layer, both + and - R. I used a NEC 6500A with my older ThinkPad T42. It was an excellent laptop drive. The 6650 in your D520 is a slightly newer version of that drive. I think it burns re-writeable and dual layer a bit faster, but that's about it. Moser Baer are not top tier media. I think if you some higher quality discs, you'll get better results. Perhaps this link will help explain.

Good Luck.
