Best Burner for DVD+R DL

I'm going to burn WMV HD files onto DVDs so that I can watch them on my 360. I've found out that DVD-R DL don't work, I must use DVD+R DL discs. I was checking out the Top 5 burners list and thought about getting the Pioneer DVR-112D, but when I checked out the mini-review for it, it said the following for DVD+R DL:

"The Pioneer DVR-112D burned our 8x rated Verbatim media in 15 minutes and 16 seconds. Quality could be better, there is a large cluster of errors at the layer break and reading problems on the first layer of the disc"

That's using Verbatim which is supposed to be on of the best brands of discs around.

So should I go with another writer? I know the Lite-On LH-20A1H has a better DVD+R DL rating holds the second spot in the Top 5, but they don't seem to carry it in my area.

Re: Best Burner for DVD+R DL

Burn them at 6x or 8x and they will be fine.

With my drives and same Verbatim 2,4x DL+R of same package.
Pioneer111, Plextor PX-755A, LG E10L, LG H44N, , Samsung SH-S203B, LiteOn LH18 A1H in this range.

With Non Verbatim DL media best burner for me is LG H44N followed by Pioneer 111, Plextor PX-755A, LG E10L, Samsung SH-S203B, LiteOn LH18.

Samsung is ok as DL burner but far not as good as some people here think, esspecially if you scan with a Plextor where you can see jitter and beta and TA Scan as well, which is a weak of the Samsung burner, and good for Samsung not seen in the KProbe scans used in reviews.

Re: Best Burner for DVD+R DL

That is a good scan, but it needs to be a full disc and where is the layer change?

I have heard the LiteOn LH-20A1H is a pretty good dual layer burner. I wouldn't recommend burning any dual layers over 2.4X anyway.

Pioneer 115D. In fact, my 115D is a dedicated DL burner (that's all I use it for).

Verbatim +R DL 2.4x burn 4x on pioneer 115D

Whom to trust...?
Okay guys, here comes a MKM001 @8x burn on DVR-115D holding a movie backup. None of my standalones or my PS2 can play this disc back past layerbreak. Still my Litey "says" it's a readable burn. Go figure.

MID: MKM001 (Verbatim made in Singapore)
Type: DVD+R DL 2.4x rated (8x in firmware)
Burned with: CD Speed 4.7.7.5 Create disc
Burned @:8x
Burn time: 17' 52''
Pre-burn calibration: 30''
Drive/Firmware: DVR-115D /1.18 ala42 patched
- Note, nothing in this burn is related to the patch.

Re: Best Burner for DVD+R DL

r_saotome
Recently bought a 20-pack of Verbatim DL media @ BB for $25, all I can say is...WOW! Best DL burn I've EVER HAD!
Double checking this with my Samsung & BenQ drives just to make sure this wasn't a fluke.
Update: NOT A FLUKE, 2nd scan is from the Samsung Drive.
Burner: Pioneer DVR-115D - FW 1.18
Media: Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x @ 4x (MIS, MKM001)

Re: Best Burner for DVD+R DL

My 215 does a great job with dual layer media, so i guess that the 216 should do the same.

a disc MKM001 you do not?
I have to NEC 4550A recording quality even better.
I had hoped that the PIF errors in the 215 will be far less up to 800 =: (

Re: Best Burner for DVD+R DL

Well i don't have any MKM001 burns, but MKM003 burns are very good.

PIF less than 800 should be a perfect burn (and it is), but very hard to get, even with MKM media, i only once go 552 PIF with my 7200A, the rest of my burns are from 1000-2000 PIF.
