I am trying to play DVD +R DL on a Panasonic S35. I recorded one with Nero and another with imgburn. Recorded using NEC 3550A. Neither play on the PAnasonic.

Yes, the Panasonic will read them provided you use quality media (IMHO only D/L Verbatim DVD+R will do) AND YOU SET THE BOOKTYPE TO DVD-ROM!!!! I have the player and I use the 2.4x D/L MKM 001 Verbatim DVD+R discs. I have a Pioneer 109 though which automatically sets the booktype to DVD-ROM on D/L DVD+R discs. All of the ones I have used work without a hitch on my S-35.

I was certainly not using Verbatim. And they are expensive!!
Will wait some more then before Verbatim become little more reasonable.

Which country are you located in? If you live in the US, they are regularly on sale for $2 a disc. Even the cheap quality stuff isn't much cheaper than that. Bestbuy currently has 20 packs on sale for $40 this week and about every week some store has the 10 packs on sale for $20. BTW were you setting the booktype to DVD-ROM on your D/L discs before burning them?

I was indeed setting the book type to DVD-ROM.

Also, I am in the US. I just feel that the $2 per disc is significantly more than $0.33 per non-DL disk. Effectively per GB cost is 3x Vs regular DVD. Waiting for the ratio to reduce to lower than 3x.

I just purcahsed a 50 DVD spindle of Verbatim from BBuy for $15 I think...

But that is an unfair comparison. I was talking about comparing $2 a disc D/L Verbatim to other D/L discs. When compared it is pretty reasonable.

I agree with you. The prices have come down although not as much since I purchased my DL burner . Will wait a bit more...

Shouldn't have that much longer to wait. The $2 a disc sales are becoming pretty regular these days. I was just pointing out that if you were willing to spend the money on cheaper quality D/L discs that it wasn't too much of a stretch to buy the Verbatim D/L discs when they are on sale.
