WTF? Samsung SH-s162l

I've had this burner for about a month...it has worked great. But, today I tried to burn something and it won't burn past 4x. I have magicspeed set to high speed mode and everything but it refuses to burn anything past 4x. I'm using the same type media as last time which burned at 16x no problem. Any idea whats going on?

Re: WTF? Samsung SH-s162l

What are the discs, and are you even offered more than 4x as a speed option?

BTW, welcome to CDF

Re: WTF? Samsung SH-s162l

Thx for the welcome. They are staples dvd+r 16xspeed discs. Yes, I am offered to burn all the way up to 16x. But every test I've ran today it refuses to go above 4x, it's taking close to 20 minutes to burn a dvd =/ But, last time I burned a disc with the staples it worked fine. Whats odd is, my dvd burner that I have at school is also acting up. it's a 16x burner as well but won't burn past 6x. And just last week they were both working fine. I'm really puzzled as to whats going on.

Have a look at this thread - might be your DMA settings acting up. The thread will show you how to get DMA enabled for your drive, if it's disabled for any reason.

Re: WTF? Samsung SH-s162l

Already checked that, both drives are set to dma mode 2. I did, however, run the nero info tool and it said my system aspi installation was corrupted. Could that be a problem?

Re: WTF? Samsung SH-s162l

Hi,

system ASPI should normally not be a problem. It even not needed on Windows 2000 and XP. You can try to uninstall remainders of any ASPI installation and see if that helps.

Also, your drive might not support these discs and burns them with a generic strategy that is limited to 4x burn speed (and giving questionable results). Please run Nero CD/DVD Speed, go to the "Disc Info" tab and post the information here.

Also check, if there is a newer firmware for your drive. This might help in case yur media is not supported.

Michael

Re: WTF? Samsung SH-s162l

Use better supported media, cmc mag m01 is not the bets choice.
